The industry is going through its pre-Diwali period. Most filmmakers don’t release their films during this period, but two new films did release last weekend – Sonali Cable and Mumbai 125KM – both failed at the box office. The latter got a decent release, especially at single-screens, but fared poorly collecting around 1.12 crore in its first weekend. Sonali Cable was a washout all over, the film won’t even recover its release cost.
Bang Bang continued to dominate with business of around 6 cr in its second weekend, Haider was less than half of that (2.75 cr nett approx) – which is more than the combined business of both new releases.
But even though business has hit an all-time low, the industry is gearing up for a storm.
All eyes are now on Shahrukh Khan’s Diwali release Happy New Year and the hype is truly unprecedented. The pre-release reports too are excellent, but that’s the case with most big releases, especially those starring Shahrukh Khan.
With the film releasing a day after Diwali pooja (Oct 24), the chances of recording the highest single day collections are high. Most in the trade are expecting Happy New Year to be the first film to collect Rs 40 crore on a single day. To put that into perspective, the first day collections of Happy New Year is ‘expected’ to be more than the lifetime business of films like Hasee Toh Phasee, Mardaani and Deepika Padukone’s last release Finding Fanny!

The exact same film that didnt star king did collect less than 6 crores- Players and Cash both opened poorly but now thst King has remade both films unofficially then expectations are that ‘Players Cash Party At New Year’ will collect more.
@arjun @imam: i was saying about over all album. Manwa lage is good,but sounds a bit outdated. Others are average to below average.
I would love to see HNY break all records inshallah. Definitely opening records. But to break dhoom 3 lifetime record word of mouth is very important.

OK Babaji and all others out there … I am SRK fan and on a realistic thinking I think HNY should open between 35 and 38 Cr anything more than that will be bonus. What I don’t like here is that many people who are not SRK fans are making and predicting unrealistic figures here like 50Cr fisrt day and 150 Cr Weekend type and later only these users will come and make fun of HNY even if get 36Cr opening day saying that people were predicting 50 Cr opening day. I am SRK fan and have put realistic and practical targets like 37Cr Opening 100Cr+ Weekend and Life time of 230-250Cr.

Going to the topic, the first single day collection is not my prediction, but how much business does each star contributes to the overall collection.
I feel there is market value attached to every star and when you combine that with holidays and festivals the collections zooms ahead.
I had said that Salman alone can bring 100 cr and proof of that is Jai Ho.
If a movie like Jai Ho with avg word of mouth, amateruish director, unknown actress and no holidays can collect 110 to 115 cr, it is only because of Salman power.
Now if you add Salman with a totally entertainment movie with chartbuster music, brilliant action and Eid Holidays you can easily say it would collect more than 100 cr in 5 days flat.
I would rate Salman’s market value as around 100 to 110 cr, any given movie, with no big director, actress and mixed wom for movie.
Now you add entertainment factor to that and Eid holidays, and you easily predict around 120 to 130 cr alone to Salman’s contribution plus 40-50 for eid holidays. Also Kick had avg to good wom, so you get 200 + cr.
It didn’t have a great Director, a known, but not a top, heroine, nor it was a sequel or prequel to a successful franchise.
However, Indicine itself had predicted it to do 300 cr, and I said it will close out around 230 to 240 crs.
Now, put Salman in a Dhoom movie with Dips or Kat, and it will easily cross 350 cr in India.
I am fan of Salman, but there is no underestimating his star value. He is the biggest brand in India, and only Amitabh’s mega star power during his successful years can be compared to Salman’s currently.
Not Srk, not Aamir, not anyone is currently having such magnetic pull for audience in India. No wonder the likes of Kjo, who is an ardent admirer or srk, come out and say that Salman is a phenomenon and being a business minded he signed him for Shuddhi.
40 cr is a huge figure……remember day after diwali is not a national holiday…..though mostly a holiday…..would be great if it can make it and create a new benchmark
1st day collections :46 crore – 2nd day :42 crore – 3rd day :48 crore Its mean = 136 crore net in India approx
Well, It’s time for Happy New Year’s release. Everybody is looking forward to it, even the haters. lol so they could spread all the negativity as fast as possible.
I predict the 1st day collections to be around 38-40cr. I just hope it is on the same level as Mai Hoon Na or OSO. #The storm is coming. Weekend to be around 110-115cr., Week 1 – 165-170cr.

My expectations are 300cr + lifetime. 1st day should break 40Cr. 2ns day 41cr & 3rd day 42cr. That will be fantastic…let hope for the best. Long live the King..!!!

the fact of the matter is that the film is total washout overacted farah film with no substance and with 3 hrs of running time it is a disaster waiting to happen
no bookings from our friends have been heard and and there is a laziness in the air ..as if people dont care about such movies any more ..people dont care about film stars also anymore
people want to be careful with how they spend their money after seeing the shoddy display of bang bang..and the gross misjudgment they had with haider too
so money is not being laundered in the market and people are thrifty with their money
expect a TRUE debacle and do not believe the media when it comes out with the reports of success
