Talaash Movie Review

It’s been a long wait for an Aamir Khan film.. 35 months after the release of 3 Idiots, Khan returns with Reema Kagti’s Talaash, co-written by the writers of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (Reema and Zoya Akhtar). The film also features two of the most talented leading ladies in the industry, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherji.

Story: Talaash revolves around a mysterious accident of a popular film actor. Police officer Surjan Singh Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) heads the investigation team. Devrath (Raj Kumar Yadav) a junior police officer and a stunningly gorgeous sex worker Rosy (Kareena Kapoor), help him solve the mystery.

Talaash is also about Shekhawat’s personal life. He is yet to get over his son’s tragic death. Blaming himself for the accident, Shekhawat suffers from Insomnia. Leaving his wife Roshni (Rani Mukherji) back home, he spends his nights driving through isolated streets.

Talaash Review

First Half: Talaash begins well, director Reema Kagti takes her own sweet time in establishing the characters and the mystery. The narrative is gripping and absorbing enough to keep you hooked throughout the first half, even though the pace tends to slacken at times. No screen-time is wasted on forced comedy, action or unnecessary item numbers. Every shot has a meaning and takes the story forward. At interval, you don’t really know what to expect next.

Second Half: The mystery begins to unfold and from here on, expect the unexpected. The ending is outrageous, something that Indian audience wouldn’t expect from a big budget commercial film. While the writers convincingly explain the mystery, you will either end up loving it or walk away ridiculing the climax.

Performances: As a hardened cop who struggles with his own personal issues, Aamir Khan delivers a nuanced performance. Watch out for the scene in the second half when Rani Mukherji confronts him, the pain in his eyes of a father who holds himself responsible for the death of his son and the sea-side sequence with Kareena Kapoor when he breaks down – Aamir is brilliant. Rani Mukherji does her bit as a pained mother. Kareena Kapoor’s performance reminds you of her Chameli act. Both actresses don’t get enough scope to showcase their acting talent. Nawazuddin Siddiqui makes an impact. Raj Kumar Yadav does well.

Mohanan’s camera work is excellent, he captures the Mumbai night in all it’s glory. Dialogues by Farhan Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap are good. Ram Sampath’s music isn’t very catchy, but is situational and well-placed in the film. Jee Le Zaraa is a gem.

Overall, Talaash is a well-directed film with good performances. Most of the film will be loved by the urban audience, but it’s the unconventional ending that may not be liked by all.

  • Akshay fan. . We bhai fans dnt have such sel fis nature to spread negativity of other actor movie without watching it or spreading negativity intentionaly. . . Talaash is very good movie And it wil show hw much good it is by its life time collection in the end. .

  • just came back from show…its awesome movie..requesting everyone here to watch it once and then critic. Story of this kind has not been made in hindi film industry. its not a classic like 3 idiots but a sure shot hit…nobody can stop it from doing 130+ and will beat every film this year except ETT & D2 and RR.

  • i told you, yesterday and also i month back…its not an aamir khan movie. good reviews from people who saw the movie and written over here…”never expected this from aamir”..very true. he had to deliver a 250 crore profit movie which enthralls audience in every way…particularly when coming after 3 years. but he failed!!!!!! this is the difference between him and Akshay. stay here…deliver blockbusters, change roles with definite range, makes the audience laugh, dance, thrills on the edge of seat and gives 100% back to the producer. coming after 3 years..even people will forget you dear aamir. please understand..stars are meant to be with us..always. not hibernating!!!ok??

  • HAHAHA story sounds so similiar to THE SIXTH SENSE!!! How many people die in Mumbai on a daily basis? why doesnt the spirit come each time and take revenge??? how pathetic!!!

  • Talaash is a great movie and mark my words “it will do great business”, the only persons ridiculing it are desperate akki fans as they are worried about their movie coming next week, remember god is great, he is observing your cheap acts and i sincerely pray god teaches u people a good lesson, khiladi 786 = joker part 2, period

  • Talaash is a classic,gem,master-piece…a great movie come after 3idiots. Aamir Khan is a genius and no other superstar or actor can’t come on his level. Aamir is a ‘born actor’. Whatever jealous Srk & illiterate Akki fans do, speard negativity Talaash is the best movie came out of Bollywood in last 3 yrs. ‘K-786’ crap actor ki crap movie.

  • My suggestion to people : go and watch this movie, it’s one of the best movies made this year, most of the ppl commenting here have only come to this forum to pull down this movie without even seeing it in the first place, most unlikely case scenario u don’t like the movie, still are u willing to miss an aamir starrer after a gap of 3 years, be honest

  • well …welll..welll. you ll love the movie if you love suspense…it’s totally unpredictable……
you may differ too….but it ends up that you can’t guess the suspense…
so a brilliant movie (in my view point as i love suspense)
My top 5 movies of 2012

  • Talaash is a super duper blockbuster and an all time classic, haters go find a life or wait for joker part 2 coming next week

  • now amir and salman fans are saying that keep your patience to watch taalashh…
    but why?
where was their patience while watching jthj..
    loosers..
hats up to amir who made this film in 3 years…
and then say perfectionist…..and demanding 80% of shre of profit……
he is a fake person by the way……if these things will spread everywhere people will hate him, thats why
he never attends interviews…he face interviews when his films came..so cheap peson..
    i hate him…
he always fooling people by showing his simplicity but he is not a simple person..

  • I m not a fan of any actors I watch movis to get entertained..ppl r bound to hve more expectations from Amir khans ovie & it does not meet the expectations @ all…Aftab shivdsani cud hve done justice for these kind of movies…Moreover …I m not from the oscar judge panel to judge the acting abilities of the actors for me wht really matters is paisa vasool..Gangs of wasseypur was lot better if u r takng abt hatkey movies… & honeymoon travels was a better work from reema kagti thn talaash,,,,,,Sorry Amir ..it s dissapointment from u this tym…It amy hve quality but not entertaintment

  • I honestly don’t know how any Critics yet has not compared this film to a Hollywood Movie “WHAT LIES BENEATH”
starring Harrison Ford, Michelle Pfeiffer ….
Especially the ending scene underneath the water where the ghost (kareena) saves aamir life,is scene to scene copy in that ghost (Katharine) saves Michelle pfeiffer life……….
CopyCats ……No originality ….& I believe NO Critic is honest to reveal this to Mr.Aamir Khan–who claims to be Satyavadi….Hippocratic guy

  • @SAGAR..@WAHID…i am an aamir khan fan first, then akshay kumar ok???i have seen all his movies, even the flops and hits. but here my comment is not biased..i’m honestly saying that the movie failed in every way to impress. its not meant to be like this. of course all actors are brilliant in their unique way, i’m not questioning aamir’s ability, but the role suited for somebody else and the climax was the biggest failure, which all audience stood up and booed the screen and creators. i heard from my friends its happened in theatres in south india too. todays audience wants entertainment, not cheap preaching and boring intense roles just to create image persona of an actor.

  • Amir is a real hero..talaash is a nyc movie..i m a big fan of srk and salman..bt this time srk dissapointed me..jthj is a worst movie..

  • Just saw “Talaash” wat a pathetic movie it is..
Didn’t expect this frm amir khan who called himself the perfectionist..
I bet it won’t even cross 100 crores..
This year’s biggest Pakau movie frm amir khan

  • @Kiran

This Mr Perfect Aamir Khan tag is highly overrated. Ghajini itself is a shameless copy of “memento” & aamir’s acting was so amateur compared to Guy Pearce performance in that Chris Nolan’s mind bending thriller.

Aamir is decent but definitely not all what he is made out to be. He is ok. I can stand him dong same “masti” in masala oriented film like 3-idiot, which was a good film content wise.

Critics get a pass to Aamir when he cannot carry a film because he comes on screen once every 2 years. Same critics thrash SRK regularly when he makes a boring film.

  • @Praveen:

Honestly, I have not seen MNIK till now despite my preference of SRK over Aamir or Salman. I thought JTHJ was ave movie thanks to 2nd half. 1st half JTHJ was pretentious, boring & dull & dumb.

IMHO of JTHJ. SRK should just stop making movies with friends who are getting a free ride. He needs to choose scripts wisely.

Today audience want “masti” in ATBBs. Even a movie like 3 Idiots had tons of pranks & masti by everyone & it connected with both classes & masses. It is a MASALA film despite being preachy & pretentious.

My point is Gangs of Wasseypur will never collect remotely close to even 50 crores despite being a decent good solid cinema. Particularly Gangs of Wasseypur, Part 2.

  • Guys! Talaash is comedy movie ! Kaeeena is ghost & kills all villains . Aamir plays cop who is good for nothing. I wonder what Amir is doing in movie? Kareena says to Amir police Wale dhandhe pe Bhaith jao

  • Overall with a 3 years gap its a flop movie nd outdated movie..total worst case scenario..for cinegoers dont watch this crap

  • @Khiladi 786 : I think you are a typical case of short term memory loss! Aamir not a crowd puller?Lol..whose the first actor to enter the 100 and 200 cr club(the latter still being exclusive). No movie of SRK is yet to cross the collections of even Ghajini(unadjusted for inflation). And let’s not even talk about Akshay and his circus clown antics,an actor whose never given even a single top grosser of the year in his entire 21 year career.Akki fans are a bunch of comic losers indeed!!
