Sultan has just completed a record-breaking first week at the box office – smashing records of all previous films including the first week business of all-time-blockbusters like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Dhoom 3 and PK.
The film has also surpassed the lifetime business of films like 3 Idiots, Happy New Year and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Hindi) in just one week.
While the first week business is record-breaking, the trend over the weekdays hasn’t been great for the film. Bigger than expected drops were witnessed on both Monday and Tuesday, after a huge extended weekend.
Two things are certain now; one, the film has no chance of surpassing the business of PK (we had mentioned in one of our earlier reports, that the only record that has eluded Salman Khan since 2010 has been the highest grosser of all time), two, the trend isn’t as good as both PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
The first extended week collections will finish at around the 230 crore mark. Dhoom 3 added 70 crore after 9 days with plenty of holiday and a free run. Sultan will be competing with Great Grand Masti, Friday onwards, so it remains to be seen what sort of impact the sex comedy will have on the Salman Khan starrer.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan collected ?56cr in it’s second weekend despite competition from a epic movie Bahubali. If Sultan manages to collect even ?35cr-?40cr in it’s second weekend, then ?300cr is a given for Sultan, because Bajrangi Bhaijaan started it’s second weekend from ?184cr & Sultan will be starting it’s second weekend from ?230cr.
It will be second ?300cr movie for SALMAN KHAN.

May or May not Dangal break Sultan’s lifetime total with positive word of mouth but Sultan’s opening day, opening weekend & opening week records will be intact because these records require stardom that aamir doesn’t have.

The film grossed 105.50 crore nett beating the record of Bajrangi Bhaijaan which was 101.42 crore nett. Second film to cross 100 crore nett in three days.
First Weekend Worldwide
The film grossed 211 crore beating the record of Dhoom which was 194.29 crore. First film to cross 200 crore Worldwide in three days.
First Week India
The film grossed 208.50 crore nett apprx in its first week beating the record of Bajrangi Bhaijaan which was 183.52 crore. It is the first film to cross 200 crore nett in seven days. This is probably the biggest record for the film and could hang around for some time.
