Summing up the year – The men who did well:

  • Aamir Khan: What does one say about this man? He has single-handedly taken Dangal to a mammoth 300 crore plus grosser. A box office phenomenon, who has leapfrogged from 718 crore to 1093 crore (assuming Dangal ends with 375 crore) this decade with just one film. That’s nearly as much as the entire decade collections of Shahid Kapoor, who made his debut well before the decade began. His average per film has also jumped to a mind-boggling 273 crore per film, which is an outstanding 220 crore+ even if his off-beat art film Dhobi Ghat is included. By far the best for an actor this decade and also the only actor to average more than 200 crore per film. Legend. Note: We have removed Dhobi Ghat from the list to make it fair.
  • Salman Khan: It was supposed to be his year, until Dangal arrived and took the sheen away from the phenomenal run of Sultan. He still commands the biggest opening in the industry, both in terms of collections, consistency, fan following and the number of tickets sold. 2017 will be a challenge for him, because in the two-way battle for the numero-uno position in the industry, Aamir has upped the ante and it’s upto Salman to challenge those numbers and remain at the top of his game. Inspite of Dangal’s outstanding run, let’s not take anything away from the fact that Sultan managed to collect 300 crore in a year when no other Hindi film crossed 150.
  • Akshay Kumar: It’s been a excellent year for Akshay, his success ratio has increased from 48 to 54%, his hit-ratio has gone up from 33% to 42% too. And with him doing interesting films and making all the right moves (as far as positivity in the media and image is concerned), Akshay is expected to take it to the next level in 2017. In 2016, he moved one step ahead into the Top 4, could he stake a claim into the Top 3 in 2017? That’s going to be the big question.
  • Sushant Singh Rajput: Backed by the stardom and popularity of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Sushant delivered the year’s 3rd highest grosser. It’ll now be upto him to sustain the momentum and establish himself in the industry.
  • Ranbir Kapoor: After several back-to-back disasters, Ranbir finally got the box office ‘hit’ he so desperately needed. ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ also managed to beat the competition from a big film like ‘Shivaay’ and comprehensively won the controversial clash.
  • Arjun Kapoor: It was a good year for him, making a comeback after the failure of Tevar in 2015. Ki and Ka was a solid box office hit, he has edged out Ranbir in both success and hit ratios too. 2017 will be important with ’Half Girlfriend’ and ’Mubarakan’.
  • Varun Dhawan: A steady year. ‘Dishoom’ did fairly well to touch the 70 crore mark, even though the trailers and other promos weren’t well-received. The film opened well and went on to recover its investment, although the actor and the rest of the ‘Dishoom’ team would’ve hoped for a better lifetime total. However, Varun retains his 100% success ratio.
  • Tiger Shroff: The year began very well for Tiger with the success of ‘Baaghi’, but all the good work was undone with ‘A Flying Jatt’ crash-landing instead of flying at the box office.
  • Shahid Kapoor: For someone who made his debut more than 13 years ago, his record remains poor but ‘Udta Punjab’ did fairly well at the box office. When will his breakthrough year come? When will he start doing films that appeal to the audience more than the critics? The questions remain.

The men who didn’t:

  • Shah Rukh Khan: The much-hyped FAN turned out to be a big setback for SRK, right after the under-performance of Dilwale during Christmas in 2015. No one would’ve expected the film to fall below the 100 crore mark, but it finished with a poor total of 85 crore. Unlike ‘Mohenjo Daro’, the writing wasn’t on the wall for ‘Fan’ prior to release, as the trailer got a very good response. 2017 is going to be a very important year if the superstar, who still commands one of the biggest fan-following in the industry, has to challenge the likes of Aamir and Salman who are way ahead in the race at the moment.
  • Hrithik Roshan: Mohenjo Daro was one of the most anticipated films of 2016, but right from the first trailer to every other promo – nothing worked for the Ashutosh Gowariker film. If the embarrassment of losing to ‘Rustom’ wasn’t enough, Mohenjo Daro is the biggest disaster of 2016 – not including smaller films like Great Grand Masti, Rock On 2 and Mirzya. Hrithik has to turn things around in 2017, but it isn’t going to be easy with his first release ‘Kaabil’ all set to take on SRK’s ‘Raees’.
  • Ajay Devgn: 2017 was a forgettable year for Ajay as his ambitious film ‘Shivaay’ couldn’t take a big initial nor could it sustain well enough to recover costs in the long run.
  • Ranveer Singh: Befikre carried high expectations, more so since it was Aditya Chopra’s first film in 8 years and he was directing his first film without Shah Rukh. Ranveer was returning after ‘Bajirao Mastani’, a career-defining film. Unfortunately, Befikre was rejected by the audience.
  • Emraan Hashmi: 2016 was yet another big setback as the franchise which gave him his biggest career blockbuster, failed to even take a initial

  • without any crazy die hard following if aamir can do this then just think what he is capable of. many content movies cane but they are not succesful as Aamirs movies are. he is greatest following among family audience or movie lovers. if he starded doing movies each year then his stardom will be not matched by anyone. he should now switch to movies like ghajini, wanted etc. thugs is looking like that.

  • I think dangal collections are fake? why I can explain after demonization none film except dear zindgi works and people still in atm lines so that means they take the money from atm and go straight to cinema hall they don’t care about there kids food? Only they want a watch crappie dangal

  • MOHENJO daro is the worst decision of Hrithik Acc to me … It hurts him a lot.
He returns after 2 years and movie is rejected by audience .Cant say his fan following is decreased coz his performance was great in the movie as usual but It make a big impact on Neutral audience…

    Till 2014
Hrithik was way ahead than AKKI in DOMESTIC ,and he was bigger than SALMAN KHAN in OVERSEAS
    .
But things changed in these Two years which he invested (or wasted) for this Movie
    .
His personal life is not going good from last 2 year
Hope he does a solid comeback with KAABIL ..
    All the Best Greek God
U r the one of the best ,talented and hardworking actor of Bollywood ,just give ur hardwork a good direction ,choose good scripts and u will rule like a boss ,bss Flair pen uthao aur ek achi si movie sign kardo ?
    .
Love u Hrithik ,ur fan till last breathe ?

  • Absolutely top notch stuff . I have to say you are just getting better and better with each passing day . This decade will end in 2019 and till now Salman and Aamir have been head and shoulders ahead of everybody . It is wonderful to see Aamir dominating in the Blockbusters category . 2017 will be an important year for everybody . Aditya will be seen in OK Jaanu and coming back after 2 massive failures this means a lot to him . Hrithik is on the back foot after Mohenjo Daro but January has been a lucky period for him with KNPH and Agneepath . SRK is also facing a tough situation as Dilwale was a massive underperformer especially in India and Fan was a flop so he would want to make a turnaround with Raees which has been postponed by 6 months . The Ring will also be extremely important as it will bring Imtiaz Ali, SRK and Anushka for the first time . It will have a solo release on Independence Day as Crack has been postponed to 2018 . Akshay has been on a roll in 2016 with 3 back to back 100 CR Grossers and now would like to extend his tally with Jolly LLB 2, TEPK, 2.0 and Padman . 2.0 is the biggest opportunity as Akshay is coming back on Festival period after 7 years . Shahid was brilliant in UP but was not a massive success . Rangoon will be his 3rd collaboration with Vishal Bhardwaj and he has always brought the best out of him . Rangoon is also looking the most commercial film of VB . Padmavati will be a huge film for Shahid and Ranveer as it is based on a true story and both of them will get an opportunity to portray legendary characters . Varun has maintained 100 % success ratio in the first 4 years of his career . BKD will have an advantage of Sequel factor and pairing, Alia Bhatt and Solo release date . Judwaa 2 will be the biggest film of VD till date as he is playing double role for the first time . Judwaa was a massive success 20 years ago and it will be a huge challenge to step in the shoes of Salman Khan . This will be the 2nd collaboration between VD and David Dhawan . JJ is a huge film for RK as he is not just the actor but also a producer . JJ has been delayed for a long time . RK made a comeback with ADHM but it will be important for him to maintain his success . This year is huge for Arjun as he is working on HG . 2 States is the only 100 CR Grosser of Arjun and this will be the 2nd time he will work for a Chetan Bhagat adaptation . Mubarakan will be directed by Anees Bazmee and will bring Anil Kapoor and Arjun for the first time . Arjun will play double role for the 2nd time after Aurangzeb . Salman has the chance to make 2017 a milestone year in his career . Tubelight will be directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Salman Khan . Salman has a spotless record on Eid and would like to continue his success with Tubelight . TZH is another biggie as it will be a sequel to ETT which was a rage in 2012 . Ali Abbas Zafar will be behind the camera this time replacing Kabir Khan . Salman will work with Katrina after 5 years . TZH getting a solo release on Christmas will be a huge contender for the HGOTY . Salman may become the first actor to deliver 2 300 CR Grossers in a single year . Tiger has made a huge impact on the masses with his action skills but has been extremely poor when it comes to dialogue delivery . Munna Michael will be the 3rd collaboration between Tiger and Sabbir Khan . Aamir will not be seen in 2017 . He will play a cameo in SS . Aamir has been extremely successful as a producer and I think SS will be no different . Zaira Wasim will play a central character in this film . Sid Malhotra will have one film this year where he will be seen with Jacqueline . Reload will release on 25th August . This film will be directed by Raj and Krishna . This will be a chance for Sid to deliver a big success after EV . Ajay will be working with Milan Luthria for the 4th time in Baadshaho . Emraan desperately needs a Hit as he has not tasted success since the last 4 years . Ajay would love to make a strong impact after the performance of Shivaay . Sushant has achieved humongous success this year . MSD is the 4th Highest Grosser this year . Sushant was brilliant and now will be seen in Raabta with Kriti Sanon . This film will release one week after TEPK and 2 weeks before Tubelight . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope this year we will witness a plethora of Blockbusters + Content Oriented Films and Outstanding Performances . Cheers !!!!

  • What a crap comparison.just because Dangal is kicking salman movies.indicine found another reason to save their megastar, rofl.

Where is ALL TIME HIGHEST GROSSER(ATHG) COMPARISON?

And after this comparison I confirmed yeh site all time disaster star koyla devgan and decade struggler lallu ko sabse bada star banake hi chorega, rofl.

Anyways I never expected new thing/honesty from this site jut like how it made salman and Aamir no.1 in last 2 DECADES respectively.shame on you loser site.

  • Sabko salman ka bad phase pta h kaisa tha aur yahn srk h jo apne bad phase me bhii hit de rha h..isko bolte h king????

  • Akshay Kumar is rock solid. The kind of disruption his filmography has gone through in the last two years, is helping him in bringing some interesting scripts along his way. CRACK,GOLD, PADMAN, TEPK, 2.0 etc each looks interesting.

The biggest weapon a man can have is UNCLUTTERED MIND.
Aamir, Salman, Akshay have it right now. SRK and others need to work on it.

  • iam a bhai fan but i will try my level best to give unbiased review on khans
    SALMAN KHAN
I think if u go by the craze among fans bhai is the biggest superstar and way ahead of others.but i really think his films are not justifying his stardom.wanted, dabbang were good movie then the list of medicore films starts special mention for dabbang2 and jai ho which were unbearable becoz of his talent less brothers which was end with a fabulous movie bb then come another crap prdp and then a decent sultan .so for 2017 iam just hoping that salman could able to give a film which justify his stardom then rip all records becoz we all knows salman+content means huge

  • SO CALLED BAD PHASE STILL HAVE A AVERAGE OF 137 CR …

WILL NOT SAY ANYTHING OVERHYPEE ABT SRK.. BUT ONE THING MAKE SURE HE IS STILL CAPABLE TO KICK EVERY ACTOR.. JUST NEED ONE GOOD MOVIE..

    AND RAEES IS THAT ONE..

    # NEW ERA FROM RAEES..

  • AAMIR KHAN
dangal will become athg is confirm, actually he fully utilize xmax period unlike others. The blind faith on a aamir khan films is huge compare to others.the brand aamir khan is favourite of neutral audiance ,i also agree he has a big fan following. But im highly dissapointed with his next movie toh.becoz as a huge aamir admirer i always expect a classic from the legand everytime.he does not need commercial movie for huge grosser becoz he can make a less commercial movie huge biz dangal .if toh is like d3 then mark my words it will not cross 300cr.i would have happy if he would have opted for rakeshbiopic instead as 3idiots2 is not possible now.

  • Guys…..aamir and salman are record-breakers for the last 9 years……Their stardom are way ahead of others……Shahrukh is next but he has past his best…..but he has still enough fuel left in him to throw few surprises……

Rest in the line are hrithik and akshay……but consistency is the issue for both of them…….

Rest is a line-up of actors like ranbir, ranveer and new-bees….. who are consistent but cant be compared to top three…..

Few old stable actors like ajay and saif are on decline…..

This is the current trend and i think this will be there for the next 5 years for sure……..

  • Bollywood is now a 2 man power trip…!

The domination of Salmir over this decade is the only reason bollywood is just about making a small profit…!

Every film not starring Salmir is over budgeted n arriving on the market too costly without any justification…! Producers need to start thinking like businessmen n invest heavily only on a Salmir project…!

  • @9:29pm Lungi the Legend

Content Rich Phanka collected 19.5cr on a partial holiday but lifetime ended at 85cr whereas Non Content Hyped Dangal collected 29cr on a non holiday n still it will collect 4 times more than Billu Returns…

So I say forget about the 5 open weeks, good release period but instead look at the 2 films objectively n honestly tell us if you believe audiences should waste their money watching a dadaji chase his own shadow in Phanka or wisely spend their money to watch a loving father train his daughters to make India successful at the world stage…?

  • In this phase Hrithik has given 3 flops ( kites , Guzaarish nd Mohenjodaro ) . Both Kites nd Guzaarish were experimental movie . Mohenjodaro will go as biggest disappointment of Hrithik’s career as pre Trailer buzz was never seen b4.
Hrithik should act smart in this industry . He should work with some1 like Kabir khan who is eager to work with him since 2013.
Kaabil looks promising till now unless Sanjay Gupta ruins everything.
Anyway good luck Hrithik for Kaabil nd upcoming projects.

  • Lol..how can u add sushant,tiger,sid,varun,arjun ?

They didn’t even debut at 2010…ofcourse their average will be better due to movies between 2012 to 2016 because of increasement in movie collections.

  • And Hrithik should mix small movies like Kaabil in between some big projects. Movies like Krrish 3 , Bang Bang , Mohenjodaro takes nearly 18 months. So he should do some small low budgeted movies to have regular release. He is too big star to be affected by debacle of Mohenjodaro. If Kaabil works everything will be fine

  • Salman & Amir No.1 …2nd Spot surely Akshay Kumar… He takes maximum risks and that too without festival help …!

Indicine mentioning Blockbuster para just to show Akshay’s low Blockbuster ratio .

  • @9:52pm dadaji Sarook

Your Pluto Boy needs to hit a Brian Lara equivalent world record score to even try to catch Salmir n we all know that aint likely as he is struggling to hit even a century at this late stage of his career…!

The time of the ORC King Smeagol is over now…! Accept reality

  • Less chance for tiger and tube to beat the massive total of dangal(370+)

no chance for any movie to get a word mouth like dangal next year
    but
2 300cr blockbsters next year wil b enuff for salman to prove his supremacy

  • Bhai could well have 3 more consecutive 300cr grossers before Diwali 2018 when Aamir is scheduled to return…! That is a real possibility bcoz just on sheer bo prowess bhais first week collections alone could be 200cr plus so 300cr shouldnt be that tough to reach.

That would mean at that moment in time bhais last 5 films were 300cr + grossers giving him a massive unrivalled average…! Then n only then can we say bhai is ahead of Aamir bcoz Aamir would still have the 90cr Talaash in recent bag of releases…!

  • Akshay has 12 success this decade and three more years to go he will cross 20 and guyz this is a big record.
