Special 26 vs Oh My God: Box Office Collections

Oh My God Special 26

Oh My God vs Special 26

Special 26 is running successfully at the box office, as the film was rock-steady at the box office on Monday and Tuesday, after showing good growth in business in it’s first weekend.

Films with powerful scripts tend to do well over the long run, and given the appreciation that Special 26 is carrying, it makes for  a good comparison with Akshay Kumar’s last critically acclaimed success OMG! Oh My God.

OMG took a massive jump on it’s 5th day as it was a National holiday. Although Thursday is not a National Holiday, Special 26 too is likely to benefit from Valentine’s Day.

Day Special Chabbis OMG! Oh My God
First Day (Friday) 5.7 crores  3.8 crores
Second Day (Saturday)  7.6 crores  5.5 crores
Third Day (Sunday)  9.8 crores  7 crores
Weekend Total  23.1 crores  16.3 crores
4th Day (Monday)  4 crores  4.5 crores
5th Day (Tuesday)  3.6 crores  8 crores (Holiday)
Total Collections  30.7 crores  28.8 crores

Currently, Special 26 is ahead by around 8%. But Oh My God simply took off after it’s first week, despite stiff competition from films like English Vinglish.

  • Don’t forget that s26 is a multi-starer movie.so it i s not a bi g achievement for aki himself. and omg wa s no t aki’s movie.it was totally powere d by pa resh.

  • Hey friends! Now some akshay’s heaters started that sp26 is not akki movie. What a joke. They were the same people who were saying on Friday that akki is over. Ha Ha Ha. Shame on them losers.

  • OH MY GOD was not akshay’s movie.it was a paresh rawal’s movie.so OMG was a success due to the presence of paresh rawal.

  • The movie is first rate, so I guess it will do well. OMG was a entertainer so single screens were doing really well whereas S26 is a multiplex film so if it trends like OMG then 100 cr is possible.
As for whose film it is then make is point guys a movie is a Director’s ship. A star can only guarantee the opening weekend with his presence. I would call people fools if they go to theater just to see there favorite movie star.

  • All u fools who are saying this is not akshay film and so on. look at the poster above whose photos is in the center place, manoj, anupan kher they are all supporting actors. Just tell me how many hits in the lead has monoj, anupam or ritesh deshmukh, shreyas talpade, john abraham have given as a solo or leading star (In the last 10 years). Housefull, omg, special 26… Its akshay kumar all the way all HATERZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Bhagam bhag (2006) was superhit.. Bhool bhulaiya (2007) superhit, welcome (2007) Blockbuster Housefull (2010) Hit, Singh is king (2008) Super hit. All the above films had GOVINDA, PARESH RAWAL, SHINEY AHUJA, ANIL KAPOOR, NANA PATEKAR, ARJUN RAMPAL, SONU SOOD, RITESH DESHMUKH , JOHN ABRAHAM….. in all these hits n superhits but all were supporting actors. Akshay Kumar in the lead. All akshay haters cannot digest this bitter truth. (Again tell me has any 1 of them has given a solo hit in the past decade None of them.)
Anil Kapoor was a superstar and is still a big star but according to box office he had his share in 1980s n 1990s. Not in Akshay’s film.

  • this is not akshay movie. Ha Ha Ha . jock of the year. those are the same people who were saying that sp 26 is another flop by akki. now they are scared of the success of this movie.

  • Akshay extends winning streak with Special 26

Special 26 has turned out to be one film which has not just seen some universal appreciation for itself, but it has also won quite a few brownie points for Akshay Kumar. While the superstar is accumulating all the accolades coming his way for his ‘demonstration’ of being an actor, the film’s success at the box office has also extended his winning run. For an actor who was once accused of doing too many films one after another, he now holds a unique feat of delivering only one flop in his last eight releases!

“Yes, including Special 26, Akshay Kumar now has seven successes in two years after Patiala House. His only flop during this period has been Joker and every other film of his in the interim period has made money”, informs a veteran trade source.

This can be witnessed from the fact that post Patiala House, he has already enjoyed two blockbusters in the form of Rowdy Rathore and OMG! Oh My God. While Housefull 2 has been super hit, Khiladi 786 was an above average affair. On the other hand, even Thank You and Desi Boyz both of which released after Patiala House, ended up being coverage affair as well.

“This is a huge comeback from the days of Tees Maar Khan and Action Replayy when fingers were being pointed at his stardom. However, with Akshay’s films collecting over 400 crores last year, the highest that any actor has ever scored in a single year, and 2013 starting well too with Special 26, there are reasons to rejoice for the industry. He is the only actor who is continuing to do 4-5 films a year and still bringing in audience time and again. Now with Special 26, he has seen very good critical acclaim coming his way as well. If this isn’t versatility, what else is”, questions a filmmaker who has also been his close associate.

With Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai 2, Boss and Thuppakki remake to release in the second half of the year and a couple of productions from Grazing Goat arriving as well, guess there is no stopping Akki.

  • @fact,yes you are right,sp.26 is not akshay’s film it’s manoj&anupam’s film.just like ra.one and om shanti om were arjun’s film.agneepath and znmd were sanjay and abhay’s films.bodyguard and ett were aditya pancholi and ranveer shouree’s film.3idiots and rang de basanti were madhvan and sharman’s films.golmaal series were arshad’s films.right???

  • lol samar haha. If we want to analyse who’s film is S26, then let see. Manoj is in a supporting role trying catch the lead protagonists, Akki and Anupam are main lead because its about robbery and the story revolves around them, and the leader of the gang is ajju, who is the mastermind behind the jewel theif and sharmaji is his right hand man, and who is ajju? Its AKSHAY KUMAR. From history and news coverage, CBI only knew ajju as the leader, but they didn’t know sharmaji, which looks to be a ficticious name to support ajju. Also who is the heroine of the film, and who she paired with? thats right its akki, so akki is the leader as well as the lover as well as the guy who has every song picturized on. So we can say akki is the hero, just like srk is the hero ra1. You can’t call character artist as hero or otherwise we would start calling johnny lever as a hero.

Yes acting wise anupam kher is better than any actors, we can start calling dil as anupam kher film too as he has big role, but we can’t, since anupam is a character artist, not a hero where a heroine will be paired with him and he will do a song and dance.

  • These Srk & Sallu fans are hypocrites who are giving credit to unknown stars.BTW Its clearly a Akshay Kumar movie though I may doubt his box office opening capability a bit but I wouldn’t mind if I’ll be proved wrong in near future.

  • Its like a definition of a solo hero film has become that to be a solo film the hero has to stand, eat, sleep, sing, dance for 2 hours alone without any interaction with anybody lol. Anupam was playing a grandfather here and ajju’s right hand man, if anupam was hero of s26, or if ever you consider him a hero then why he isn’t paired with a heroine of any age? why didn’t we call dil as a multistarrer? Yeh anupam might of been more natural at acting then akki onscreen like he was every dam movie, but we can’t start calling him a conventional hero, he was playing a role where he was supporting akki and his plans and mastermind, now akki can’t be in the movie alone robbing without any interaction with characters can he otherwise it would be so easy? Would salman be fighting with tables if there wasn’t a villain prakash raj. definition of hero and multistarrer film has changed for some reason of few years.
