Akshay Kumar’s Special 26 has passed it’s first weekday test, as the film remained rock steady on it’s first Monday collecting Rs 4 crore at the domestic box office. Business was best at big-city multiplexes, where the film dropped by less than 50% from Sunday.
Special Chabbis is carrying tremendous appreciation and should remain steady through it’s remaining 3 days in it’s first week. The Week 1 total is likely to be in the 35-37 crore range, which is a good total for a film released on less than 1600 screens.
The trade is hoping that the film goes the ‘OMG!! Oh My God’ way, which collected 36 crores in it’s first week and then went on to do business of Rs 83 crores (lifetime collections) in India.
With Murder 3 and Jayanta Bhai Ki Love Story releasing this week, it remains to be seen if Special 26 can pick up in it’s second weekend. Murder is a film targeted at the masses, while the pre-release hype around Jayanta Bhai isn’t great. So, the Neeraj Pandey directed film could well be the first choice at multiplexes this coming weekend too.
