Shahid Kapoor’s Rangoon to release during Gandhi Jayanti next year

Vishal Bhardwaj will be directing two of his most favourite actors, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, in a film titled ‘Rangoon’.

While Vishal was keen on casting Shahid, Saif and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the film, Kangana Ranaut has been signed to play the female lead.

The makers have also finalised the release date of ‘Rangoon’. The film releases in theatres on Gandhi Jayanti next year (October 2 2016).

Shahid’s last film ‘Haider’, which was also released on Gandhi Jayanti (last year), received a good response both critically and commercially.

With a star cast as powerful as Shahid, Saif and Kangana, ‘Rangoon’ will be one of the most keenly awaited films of 2016. It was under Vishal’s direction that Shahid delivered two of his career-best performances in ‘Haider’ and ‘Kaminey’. It was under the same director that Saif delivered his career-best, as Langda Tyagi in the 2006 film Omkara.

  • LOL

Gandhi Jayanti of 2016 is the worst release date . First of all , 2nd Oct is falling on Sunday — so no advantage of holiday . Secondly , the film will be running during the major part of pre-Diwali period , so once again bad days for business .

  • ShahidK is giving different genre and different type of movies…!..
But u see on the other side,, that girl-ish coward Ranbir is only giving girl-ish rom-coms with actresses which r bigger star than him lyk Jagga jasoos,,tamasha and adhm…!…

Way to go sahid n and a kick to girl-ish ranbir…

  • Best of luck rangoon team. I am dam sure rangoon will be great movie. Shahid has two exciting films in 2016, rangoon and udta punjab. Both looks promising.

  • Shahid is excellent actors ,vishal sir is excellent director as well as kangaana too excellent actress and saif also good actor. Hope film will be blockbuster.

  • Next year Gandhi jayanti(2nd October) is on Sunday.
How can they release it on Sunday.lol.
I think they should release on dusshera so that they can get a holiday release.

  • With the focus too much on younger stars Shahis is going to emerge as the dark horse and would eventually be ahead of all his contemporaries in the coming years
He is a complete actor unlike other youngsters who have many shortcomings but thanks to some proper backing from big production houses have managed to grab the limelight

  • Another Master Piece on its way. Excited to watch Shahid n Kangana Combo.

Hopefully Saif will strike back with Rangoon.

Eagerly waiting for another powerful, meaningful, performance oriented masterpiece.

  • Vishal Bharadwaj has now become the King of Gandhi Jayanti weekend
after directing haider and producing talvaar he is set for a hattrick now

  • The star cast may be powerful in terms of acting but at the box office the star cast doesn’t have any pull

  • Keenly Waiting for this Vishal Bhardwaj venture after watching his brilliantly written Talvaar.

    It’s on my watchlist 2016!

  • @Aashish Thapar.
I think you don’t know but vishal’s last Talvar open at box office with 3cr from only 620 screens.
    & Shahid’s Haider open with 6cr+ from 1200 screens.
& Kangana’s critically bomb Katti batti open with 5cr+ from only 1150 screens.while other actress oriented films like Depu’s PIKU open with 5cr+ from 1600 screens & priyanka’s Mary kom open with 7cr+ from 2250 screens.& Sunny’s Ek phli Leela open with 5cr+ from 1800 screens.

Vishal,Shahid & Kangana all have Multiplex appeal & Rangoon is a Multiplex film.

  • @Balika Bad-hu: I know all these figures that u have mentioned and I very correctly stated these figures but this is what II actually want to say..at the box office,in terms of opening these stars hardly have any pull..kangana’s katti batti did 5 crore from 1150 screens but at the same time Shahid’s Phata poster nikla hero did 5.25 crore on 2200 screens..Shahid’s biggest opening day is still below emraan hashmi’s opening day..on the other hand saif too manages only 6.5 crore from 2300 screens for bullet raja and an even worse 4 crore from 2000 screens for happy ending..these stars may have some pull at multiplexes but at mass centres they are a big zero..even at plexes they cannot be termed as crowd pullers in real terms..As for talwar, yes it did well on first day considering the release size but u cannot deny the fact that it was hugely aided by the national holiday factor..
