Aamir Khan has postponed the theatrical release of ‘Secret Superstar’ from August 4 to the Diwali weekend – setting up a clash with Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar’s Robot 2.0.
The decision comes two weeks after Akshay Kumar’s ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ was postponed from June 2nd to August 11th, making it two major releases a week after a word-of-mouth dependent film like ‘Secret Superstar’.
It’s a sensible business decision as ‘Secret Superstar’ isn’t a commercial film featuring Aamir Khan in the lead. The superstar only has a cameo and the film needed time to grow. During a major festive weekend like Diwali, there should be enough space for a film like ‘Secret Superstar’ and the more commercial ‘Robot 2.0’.
This is what we had predicted in last week’s QnA, when a reader asked about Secret Superstar releasing a week before two major films “We think Aamir will push Secret Superstar to a different date. He is one of the best minds in film business and he’ll probably know it’s a small word-of-mouth film. It needs two open weeks to grow and perform at the box office. If it comes a week before the two major films, it may not find too many takers in Week 2 unless it turns out to be an exceptional film. Even assuming it’s an outstanding film, it’ll still lose out on business”

@ javed, i know it hurts that akshay kumar has won national award but your haklu srgay will never win that, still i see haklu fans ass burning. To come to clashes aitraaz was a hit film and it was never a universal appealing film, OUATIMD never clashed with chaddi express, it released one week after bhikhari khan begged jeetandra for that and then back stabbed him, even so for first 2-3 days it ran to packed houses, content let it down. Only i admit jaaneman was defeated by don, but that film had lallu khan also, and talking about clashes sunny paaji’s dhai kilo ka haath steamrolled srgays magnum opus asoka, so dont forget that

Please someone told amir to move release date of his 20cr movie from diwali, to avoid clash with biggest 400 cr project. Amir is so rude. He place his tiny film to eat his business relaising that 2.0 needs aolo release.

In South India secret superstar will be washout because of Rajni craze it will not work there because of Robot 2 but In North India and other places Robot 2 will dominate because super stardom of National Award winner Akshay Kumar
Thosewho dnt like science fiction movies mainly Family audiences of Hindi film will opt for Secret Superstar if That film turns out to be a great 1 with fun element!!And Aamir knows these factors very well…i am sure He will have more than cameo and Film will be about serious subject through entertaining presentation!!

Robo 2 will be utter crap like kabali .Shankar got mad of baahubali successs thats why he made robo 2 to beat baahubali collections in pan india his movies are disasters in bollywood so he wants to mixing up with north and south with joker kumar and stale rajnikanth.

@Abhishek kr, no as Salman is Aamir friend and Raju Hirani already eying for duty biopic so Aamir can’t clash any of them. Regarding clashing with 2.0, it won’t impact that film even a bit as Aamir is only playing a cameo and its low budget movie. But as you know Aamir cameo film is enough to burn supporting actor Akshay fans.
Sorry, I said it in my previous comment that SS will get 2-3 open weeks.it will not get open weeks if it will be released on Christmas but get enough time to grow and perform.

Aamir got the business mind in industry for sure. by this clash secret superstar definately going to be get buzz & people will aware of it rather then on aug 4. but on diwali golmal 4 is also coming so how three way clash will going to be. one more thing this superstars are clashing but newbie varun is enjoying solo release on one of best weekend for judwa 2.
secret superstar is low budget film so it will not hard to get hit/superhit tag as buzz or film ki awareness to diwali clash se ho hi jaegi. it will not affect much to robot as both are different genre/scale/budget films. its good that not two high budget films are clashing so its healthy clash for both.
