Sanam Re Review

Divya Khosla Kumar delivered a hit like Yaariyaan when no one expected her to, backed by the awesome music of that film. Of course, the might of T-Series helped. Now she’s back with another romance backed by superhit songs titled Sanam Re. It’s Valentine’s season and couples need a perfect romantic film to unwind. Will Divya Khosla Kumar be able to deliver that?

Story: Aakash (Pulkit) and Shruti (Yami) are childhood lovers who live in the picturesque snow clad town of Tanakpur. But Aakash’s career ambitions take them apart. Destiny plays a part and they end up meeting again. In Canada. At a Yoga Camp. Aakash also has to juggle to win over Mrs. Pablo (Urvashi) to further his career plans. Aakash has to choose between career and first love, between a hot woman like Mrs. Pablo and his innocent first love Shruti. Is he able to do that without heartbreak? Watch the film to find out.

Sanam Re Review

Screenplay and Direction: Divya Khosla Kumar does decently in trying to juggle all the plot elements together. Also because the expectations weren’t great even a “not bad” film has ended up feeling entertaining. Sanam Re has few slow portions but the story moves forward briskly. Even though the humour induced by the writers work only on juveniles, we don’t mind it. What we didn’t like, however, was the rampant objectification of women in the film. And Divya being a woman director should have seriously done better.

Like Fitoor which also released this week, Sanam Re has also been shot in picturesque locations. It looks very good even though the frames are not as subtle as they are Fitoor. The editing doesn’t hurt the film. The music is probably the USP of Sanam Re, as most of the songs are hummable. T-Series have once again delivered a competent soundtrack. Sanam Re, Ghazab Ka Hai Yeh Din stayed with us the most.

Acting: Pulkit Samrat who impressed us in his debut film Bittoo Boss doesn’t do badly. He doesn’t do really well either. He plays the character of Aakash to the template. The characteristics of a hill town boy fed up with his city life are all present in Aakash. Pulkit doesn’t have the charm of Salman or Ranbir, though. Yami Gautam also doesn’t have much to do in Sanam Re except for looking fair and lovely. Urvashi Rautela plays the raunchier version of Yami’s character and she has been vastly objectified in the film. But she does show bits of her acting chops in Sanam Re.

Conclusion: Sanam Re is a decent entertainer if you keep your expectations in check. If you go in expecting an epic romance, you will end up disappointed. Sanam Re is a film which will appeal to the young ones who have not been touched by the cynical world called real life. It has humour, drama, and emotions in full doses, which might put off a lot of people. If you are in the mood for a one time romantic movie watching experience, then Sanam Re is the film for you.

Pros:

  • The music is splendid
  • The locales are beautiful
  • Sanam Re entertains and makes us laugh
  • A love story with plenty of romantic scenes

Cons:

  • Pulkit Samrat still hasn’t learned heavy duty acting
  • Objectification of Urvashi Rautela was unnecessary
  • The film gets slow occasionally

Rating: ★★½☆☆

  • Divya khosla Kumar is one of the worst directors for in bollywood today probably even worse than sajid khan.I hope this movie is a disaster and she stops making crap movies.

  • Objectification of Urvashi? Lol I love such scenes.
Hope more bollywood actresses do lots of nude scenes.
I am being honest to the man inside me, no hypocrisy.

  • Seems Indicine has become too much ‘Dilwale’…to be entertained by This crap story & laughed by those silly jokes…and manage this with saying We kept our expectations very low!! Lol wow…just 1 star for music & Landscape!! Bdw Indicine You have not mentioned about Rishi ji’s acting???

  • Now all eyes on Jay Gangaajal.

    Bad times for Indian cinema.

@Indicine pls update Ghayal Once again total box office. Collection and verdict.

  • Even with bad reviews movie will be a hit. Yaariyan too received bad reviews even worse than sanam re but it became hit due yo its music and youth appeal. I have not seen the movie but will watch it on sunday. Indicine again disappointed with your rating it looks you are going to give 3-3.5* but you end up giving 2.5 stars.

  • Why doesn’t indicine filter totally irrelevant and illogical comments like – “Ranbir has charm.. agree” under Sanam Re review. Excessive comments make it impossible to find relevant & logical ones.

  • While others have completely trashed the shit out of it…Indicine has given it a better review…@indicine, plz change your reviewer to one who’s tastes actually matches those of the audience…And I don’t know why, but this review makes it seem like T-series is paying you..

  • @ indicine- and srk don’t have much to do except looking fair and handsome but fortunately he didn’t looking handsome. lol people use to watch his movies just because for romancing in theater because they don’t have time to watch what is going on screen.

  • frst tell me indicine…
aajkal konsa chamatkar kar liya.. achanak se ur reviews gt 10 times better.. funny.. nw i think its one of the best reviews on net.
