Salman Khan’s Tubelight is a colossal failure

Salman Khan’s Tubelight is a colossal failure at the box office. The film that has been rejected by the superstar’s fans, as well as the normal movie going audience.

Box office performance wise, ‘Tubelight’ is the biggest disappointment for Salman since his staggering rise to the top of the industry after 2010’s Dabangg. It’s also his first failure after Eid became a festival for film releases in the country.

The film was below-the-mark right from the first day at the box office, but there was hope that it would grow with the beginning of the Eid festivities on Monday. The growth did not come, but with Eid celebration coming to an end on Tuesday, the crash did. ‘Tubelight’ tanked at the box office Wednesday onwards and the slide will continue in the second weekend too.

Shows were reduced at multiplexes on Wednesday itself due to lack of audience. The occupancy for the morning and noon shows at several centres was lower than what ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ was getting in its 3rd week.

While the producers of the film have made their profits by selling various rights of the film, ‘Tubelight’ is a major disaster for the distributors. The film fetched insanely high amounts as ‘minimum guarantee’ and most haven’t yet recovered even half of their investment. The trend of paying fancy prices for the star-value, without factoring-in the reach, concept or box office potential of the film itself, has cost the industry a lot of money.

It’ll be the case in the near future too, as we have films lined up for release that have fetched high prices because of the star, but the content and concept isn’t justifying the price.

  • @hrithik,when I read your comments it makes me laugh loudly. so u say SRK won’t beat bb collections in rest of his career.. ok we will see that in very near future !!!!!
SRK has CE to his name which broke every existing records whether it’s opening, weekend and lifetime collections in both india and overseas but what about our lovely bhai who has been running after ATG since 1994 ???????????
if u talk about solo release, then all his films managed to get a solo release during big festivals like Eid,Diwali and Christmas and still failed to give ATG and SRK did with one Movie CE and that too with one open week !!!!!!!!!!
    kela khawo !!!!!

  • Ohh…..so srk fans are comparing Raees with Tubelight? No wonder they are called silly.

Raees was out-an-out masala entertainer, with Sunny Leone leading the pack with hit song Laila.

Tubelight had nothing of that sort, and even Salman didn’t do anything that was “expected”

Let’s face it……..Srk and Salman got a good lesson, after Fan and Tubelight, that one should listen to the audience, the fans and not work to please the arm chair critics.

Tubelight is a flop. Just like Fan was.

Accept it, both fan groups and move on,

The one fact that however doesn’t change is that, come TZP, all will be well for Salman. Now, every srk fans “knows” this.

They also “know” that currently srk cannot challenge the stardom of Salman no matter what movies he has in his kitty. Most will be average to superhits.

There is nothing to compare Salman to srk or any other star.

Salman can still deliver a 100 cr + with an ultimate crap, but Srk and others cannot. Period.

Jai Ho is perfect example of crappiest movie making in a non-holiday period, that went on to collect 100 cr.

Tubelight is not as bad as Jai Ho, but it is too niche, too blandly scripted and nothing to offer to any level of audience, that caused its failure.

Yes, it is a big failure for Salman, but even bigger failure for Kabir Khan, who used his documentary style film making and failed.

Now, it is not Salman, but Hrithik who needs to be extremely wary of Kabir Khan, because he is the one who is working with him in his next movie.

Anything similar and Hro might just not recover as he is already struggling with flops and average hits.

  • @hritik
What was so speciaal in @TIGER? It was just another action film. It was first offered to SRK.
BTW Whether role suits or not doesnt matter as long as brand value is huge!! Salman did a cop role in Garv still Dabbang cop role suited him.
TIGER and DHOOM are huge franchise, anyone can give opening with them.
And u trolling 84 cr FAN? Tubelight will be selling lesser tickets than that 84cr FAN till the end, but collection will be>> Due to ticket price

  • Diamond hearted bhaijaan time has come to become being human and return distributers 90 crores rs. Be human don’t become animal …..you have 24 carat diamond heart ..

  • Akshay ki film 110 cr karle toh Hit & Salman ki tube light toh Abhi running me hy orr Akshay ki hit films se zyadah collection karle gi box office per flop hone k bad bhi great Salman Khan

  • Ha ha ha so many gawaar bhojpurians are crying and desperately giving excuses to compensate themselves. No matter what salman’s fake stardom exposed. He doesn’t have any stardom even half as big as aamir, amitabh and late rajesh khanna. Period. If aamir was in tubelight then it would have crossed at least 180 cr by now. That’s what you call stardom.

  • @javed but why did you forget over a decade distributor earn 10times more losing for one movie is not a big deal

  • @Sayar : Where was your logic of ticket prices during Jai Ho ? You were shamelessly comparing JTHJ with it. You cant have 2 different rules for same thing. About sequels, we know how Don 2 broke records with Solo releases during Christmas 2011.

  • @hrithik
You are perhaps the most idiot person in the entire world
Don was just a bare ‘hit’ whereas TIGER was a Blockbuster. So how can you compare Don and Tiger.
And when did I compare JTHJ with Jai Ho. Show me that comment. Give me that link.

  • How can people be so idiot? Don was not a huge hit, TIGER was a blockbuster.
If Chennai Xpress sequel comes out, Tiger will again be a chuha
