Salman Khan, the most bankable star in the industry today, started his career with Sooraj Barjatya’s Maine Pyaar Kiya which remains one of the biggest hits of his career. Barjatya was also instrumental in giving Salman a film like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Indian Cinema.
Some of his other hits in the 90s are Baaghi, Saajan, Karan Arjun, Jeet, Judwaa, Biwi No 1, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya.
It was after Hum Saath Saath Hain in 1999 that Salman’s career began to nose-dive. In the next 5 years (2000 – 2004), Khan had only two hits – Baghban (special appearance) and Mujshe Shaadi Karogi (multi-starrer). Tere Naam and Garv did reasonably good business.
Between 2005 and 2009, Salman had a few massively successful films like Partner and No Entry, but most of his films like Jaan-e-mann, Baabul, Salaam-e-Ishq, Yuvvraaj, Marigold – just to name a few – sank without a trace at the box office.
The biggest turning point in Salman’s career came when Prabhu Deva’s Wanted (2009) bought back the single-screen audience to theatres. Post the success of Wanted, Salman began to take his career more seriously, stopped doing films as favours to some of his friends in the industry and signed films that targeted both the single-screen and multiplex audience.
Dabangg released in 2010 and went on to break all possible box office records – the opening day, weekend and first week record of 3 Idiots. Ready was the biggest non-holiday grosser of all time. Bodyguard surpassed all records set by Dabangg only a year ago and Ek Tha Tiger almost joined the 200 crore club.
As things stand today, Salman Khan holds several records and is the undisputed ‘king’ of the domestic box office.

Even Box office don’t show the real star. Some of the the numbers shown above is not correct. specially 2 movies. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is one of the biggest hit of 1999 which shown here only semi hit another is Tere Naam it was also a fair hit movie but they shown it as Above Average. Those two movies are also the biggest landmark of Salman Khan’s Career.
Unfortunately Andaz Apna Apna not a hit but its the one of the classic comedy movie of Bollywood.
I don’t really get why people are bashing Salman Khan here. Calm down, you ain’t no actor/actress to criticize his work like that. I mean come on guys, every actors are unique in their own way and they cant always give out blockbusters and hits every-time. For those who are saying Shahrukh is better than him, so what? at least Salman is at his best phase at the moment. Oh and always remember that he helped SRK when his acting career was rocky and he actually credited Salman for that. If we talk about all time blockbuster, Salman gave four without KKHH but let me remind you that he was part of the other half of the film and he contributed in the film with hard-work just as how SRK did. So that counts which gives out five all time blockbuster. At the moment, SRK has three all time blockbuster including CE. Oh Ek Tha Tiger is considered an all time blockbuster because it grossed over 300core. But hey come on, at least they two contributed in Bollywood cinema. He is not the only one who gave flops every actor did including SRK, Aamir, Akshay etc. Relax, Salman is just doing his job as an actor to entertain us.
