Rani Mukerji’s Top 5 Movie Scenes

Rani Mukerji turns 35 today. The Bengali girl stormed the Bollywood scene 15 years ago in 1998 with major hits like Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Over a period of time Rani became the most sought after actress in tinsel town courtesy her breathtaking performances in films like ‘Black’, ‘Veer Zaara’ and ‘Noone Killed Jessica’.

In a male dominated industry, some of Rani’s biggest hits – ‘Hum Tum’, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ and ‘Saathiya’ came at a time when the male leading actors of those movies were not big superstars.

Although today she is not very active as compared to some of the other top heroines, there is no denying the fact that Rani requires just one powerful script to re-invent herself all over again. While there is tremendous speculation of her relationship with Aditya Chopra, 2013 could well be the year when she finally ties the knot with the most influential producer in the business.

Here’s wishing Rani Mukherji a very happy 35th birthday. We also list Rani’s Top 5 most special movie moments:

1. Michelle in Black: ‘Black’ is not only the best performance of Rani’s career but it is arguably one of the most sensitive female leading performances in the history of Indian Cinema. Rani shared screen space with none other than Amitabh Bachchan and created magic in this Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s classic. In this scene, she expresses the feelings and desires of a deaf, dumb and blind girl. Awestruck!

2. Rhea in Hum Tum: Rani gave yet another terrific performance in Kunal Kohli’s Hum Tum. In the scene below, the beautiful Yashraj leading lady is seen enacting the arrange marriage concept with Saif. It also received the Filmfare Award for the Best scene of 2004.

3. Babli in Bunty Aur Babli: Rani performed one of the title roles in Bunty Aur Babli, which became the 2nd biggest hit of 2005. In this scene, she shows her amazing comic timing as she fools around with Q.Q.Qureshi. Hilarious!

4. Priya in Chalte Chalte: Rani gave a very matured and sensitive performance in SRK’s home production ‘Chalte Chalte’. Her character transforms from a rich girl to a middle class housewife. We have picked a much lighter scene from this otherwise serious movie and it happens to be the introduction scene of Rani in Chalte Chalte. Well enacted!

5. Saamiya Siddiqui in Veer Zaara: Although Rani was not amongst the main protagonists in this penultimate directorial venture of Yash Chopra, she left a lasting impression in the role of a lawyer. As an idealistic Pakistani lawyer, Rani bravely fights the case in favor of an Indian man. See it to believe it.

  • Rani the best, but only if she had not done those yrf films that ruined her career.

She is a thinking actress and i guess in future she would be successful in either production / direction.

  • Rani Mukerjee – she is an actress that caused my love to Indian films. I love all her movies.I think in Aiyyaa she is funny, I had a fun when I watched her in this film. Also her role in Taalash was perfect. She was better than Karina kapoor in this film.

  • @Farida I thought so too, Her performance in Talaash is one the best of her career. It is not well praised due to the Bollywood “party song” craze what people in this country has become accustomed to. It was such a wonderful film but was not a big box office success.
