Raju Hirani bashes man-made religion, says lot of people have died because of it

Acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, who had directed the anti-religion film ‘PK’, has said that a lot of people have died because of religion. India’s biggest problems, he said, would be solved if people get rid of the ‘divisive attitude’ and stop dividing everything.

“India’s biggest problems will be solved the moment people get rid of the divisive attitude. We human beings have divided everything. The colour green is for Muslims, ‘gerua’ for someone else. We have even divided animals – cow for one and goat for another. We need to understand that we are one race. The moment we take this off, a lot of problems will be solved. Lots of people have died in our country in the name of religion and nothing else” Hirani said.

The director stressed that religion was man-made and people who are giving us answers on God, are contradictory.

“This (PK) was the only film, which I genuinely wanted to be talking about something. I have always been fascinated by the concepts regarding God. There are many people around us who are giving us these answers but they are often contradictory.”

“Lots of the fights in our country are because of religion. We don’t realise that religion is nothing but man-made”

The director, however, refused to comment on Aamir Khan’s statement on ‘growing intolerance’ in the country.

  • very well said by raju sir. but i know he will be bashed by several “intellectuals” who nvr understand the inner meaning of a statement.

All I can say to them is
    “May God Bless Them”

  • Agree religion can send men to hell. What mankind needs is a relationship with God. He is a personal God. And He tells us to come to Him and reason so that your sins which are Scarlett shall become as white as snow. He loves mankind and we were created to worship him not idols or traditions. If we examine things wisely a number of trappings in every religion is manmade and we get caught up with it. But God says all men are created equal and what He has created call not thou unclean. No human or animal.

  • U are right but you are also a hypocrite. U made fun of hinduism and christianity but u didn’t allow PK to take the wine into the mosque and pour it there. Double standards.

  • I dont think he ‘bashed’ religion. He just wants to say people should look at things from a broader perspective. Even in pk, the original climax scene was Jaggu and Sarfaraz dancing on PK’s song and the camera starts zooming out, ultimately giving us the image of Earth. Hirani said, the scene symbolized how tiny we humans are, but we have become so myopic in our perspective that we have failed to recognize the simple fact that we are all humans and religion has divided us.

I won’t call him atheist, but he is agnostic for sure. And his perspective towards religion is compelling and sincere which is why PK worked in spite of its atheistic approach.

  • Well I don’t think you can call “religion” man made. Religion is affiliated with peace/harmony and it curtsails an individual self total submission towards his/her creator ….be it Hindu, Islam ,christain….!
If you say man made you talk about customs ,traditions and cultures but not Religion sir.
….wise move too to stay away from any Aamir n co related subject matter/point of views.

  • One line from the movie OMG, by the character played by Mithun Chakravarty comes to mind regarding general people in country…..”these are not God Loving people, but God Fearing people…”

So far as we keep that fear in our mind, fake god men in every religion will take advantage of it….

  • Government Should Ban on Rat Kill Poison. Because Rat is favorite animal of Ganesh. why government not banning on rat kill poison bcz it’s not related to muslims, actually RSS n BJP do that things which start a fight b/w Muslims and Hindus. and aam aadmi ko isse nuksaan hota hai. it’s all about politics.

  • @krk There was nothing wrong shown in temple in pk …. he went with a thali n came back. And breaking a cocunut in a church is also not a great sin. But taking wine to mosque ??? Will it it be ok for u if u carry wine in a temple?? First understand the situation. Stop acting like a dumbass

  • Agree with you Rahi Hirani, But I don’t think you need to give your view in media, yes you can give through films but not in media.

@KRK as your name suggest your intelligence Kamal R Khan. Wine is prohibited thing in Hindu & Muslims, we can’t allow them in Temple or mosque. You are asking why Raju didn’t show wine in mosque. Did they show Wine in temple, PK took coconut in church and its not a prohibited thing for Christians. Tell me anything prohibited custom PK done inside temple.
The only thing I am found bad was Shiva Character scene, that can be avoided or I must say should be avoided.

  • @KRK
Hirani couldnt shoot such a scene even if he wanted to. Muslims is one of the strictest religions.
PK is Raju Hirani’s most important film, more universal than any movie of his. Any person in the world can relate to PK. Educated, uneducated, college going or old people, men and women, PK is film all people can take message from.

  • There is nothing wrong with having strong belief’s, whether you are atheist, Buddhist, Christian or Muslim, having your own belief’s about the world is great and quite likely, atleast one of those views out there are actually right. However, to believe that others are stupid for having a different views or belief existence of God and being so ignorant as to think you have to drag the rest of the world or Indians out of their stupidity is a terribly medieval thing to do and definitely an educated atheist should themselves find doing it.

Mr Raju, if you truly as clever as you think you are, then at very least you need to respect others belief’s and accept that you have no more evidence than they do.

  • Indicine, olease post my previous comment on my real id I.e Ajay Rocks. Please dont approve it with Ranveer id….and delete this one as well. Thanks

  • @jitender – not believing in religion is not being an atheist.

agree with Mr. Hirani. Ultimately religion divides people. Not only divides creates tension and negativity.

We have to stop thinking about a person as a hindu, muslim, christian etc. He/She is just human! Period.
