Three of the biggest box office openers this year – Ra One, Ready and Bodyguard – are all masala flicks catering to a huge audience both in India and overseas. While Ready and Bodyguard cost less and were far less promoted, the opening numbers are comparable with Shahrukh Khan’s ambitious Ra One.
Day 1: Bodyguard released during EID and Ra One for Diwali, both holidays but the SRK starrer was affected by Diwali celebrations as collections witnessed a sharp dip for the afternoon and evening shows. Bodyguard of course, released on less number of prints went on to do 21 crores of business on Day 1 in India. Ready was a non-festive release and still did well. Winner – Bodyguard
Day 2: Belongs to SRK’s Ra One. The film had a historic Thursday amassing collections in excess of 24 crores – the biggest single day collections in the history of the Hindi film industry. Comparatively, Bodyguard did pretty well too. Ready was much lower. Winner – Ra One
Day 3: While collections of dubbed regional language versions plunged, Ra One in Hindi (especially the 3D version) was rock solid considering that it was a working day in most parts of the country. Bodyguard too was steady, witnessing approximately the same percentage of drop on the third day of its release. Ready picked up considerably as it was a Sunday. Winner – Ra One

As is pretty evident from the table above, Ra One is ahead by more than 15% compared to the second best – Bodyguard. If combined with overseas business, Ra One is way ahead of all Hindi releases so far this year.
Irrespective of what happens from here on, SRK has proved once again, that he belongs right up there somewhere in the Top 3. Don 2 is likely to be less promoted and it should be interesting to see how it matches up to these 3 money-spinners.

bodygaurd was a less costed movie and did great at box office because of SALMAN ‘ stardum. Ra one was big buget movie and SRK know that it may be a flop so he promote it every way and make the people fool by making this cartoon movies. Agar movie 250 cr cross karte ha to phir OK but i don’t think so. SALMAN ke value bohot bar chuke ha. Bodygaurd is a winner of all time.

Why these salman fans and srk haters can’t digest the fact that ra.one is breaking records and making very good money,even if a movie of avatar standards with a budget of more than 1000 crores is released in india it can’t earn more than a certain amount, may be 300 crores. No one stopped salman from making a high budget movie and promoting it but he seems to be happy in earning money by making all those low class and low budget movies, frankly saying he is not daring to invest big money in a movie. When someone like shahrukh is trying to take bollywood ahead by making a high technique and high budget movie you all are trying to pull him back by praising salman who is busy in making remakes of south indian movies.

dont say that indicine is biased..
the figures you’ve got from Box Office India are right.
But those figures were for only the hindi version of the movie and when you add the collections of tamil and telugu versions INDICINE is right..
Note: Bodyguard was not released in tamil and telugu so there is no extra collections to be added to the BOI figures.

i agree that they are on the same level and given RA One’s budget it has to make more to justify the budget..
Still RA One is a success considering the pre-release collection which is around 130 crores.
and the overseas collections are always high for SRK starrers.
