The talented Priyanka Chopra, who was believed to be cornered by certain influential film makers, has supposedly bagged a huge role! The actress is likely to play the role of Jaya Bachchan in the remake of Zanjeer. The 1973 classic, a breakthrough film in Amitabh Bachchan’s career, was produced and directed by Prakash Mehra.
The remake will be directed by Apoorva Lakhia (Shootout At Lokhandwala, Mission Istanbul) and Priyanka will play a NRI cafe owner, who is spunky and bold. Produced by Prakash Mehra’s son Amit Mehra and Reliance Entertainment the film is set against the backdrop of the oil mafia.
If it does happen, Zanjeer will be Priyanka’s third Amitabh Bachchan remake after Don and Agneepath. Interestingly, there are murmurs in the industry that Priyanka has been offered a jaw dropping fee of Rs 11 crore for the role. If it’s true, she’ll be the highest paid actress in B-town. Way ahead of Kareena Kapoor’s 8 crore pay-check for ‘Heroine’.
The Zanjeer remake will go on the floors on April 13th 2012 at Film City.
