The release date of Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has been announced. The film will release in theatres on Wednesday, 11th November 2015, giving it a extended 5-day weekend at the box office.
Interestingly, and unlike last year when Shahrukh Khan decided to release ‘Happy New Year’ on the day after ‘Diwali Puja’, Sooraj Barjatya and Salman have announced Prem Ratan Dhan Payo to release on the day when business tends to get affected.

Announcing the release date of the film, Barjatya said “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will be releasing during the Festival of Lights – Diwali. Rajshri is proud to partner with Fox Star Studios for this film that will release on November 11. Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor star in this complete family entertainer that we hope will tug at the heart strings of audiences with the Indianness of love, and values it has in its core. Salman is playing a character that he hasn’t played in a long time. He is the quintessential Prem once again that audiences have loved and treasured in their hearts. We are gearing up with release strategies that will unfold soon.”
Vijay Singh, the CEO of Fox Star Studios, was equally proud and excited to announced ‘the movie of the year’.
“We are proud to announce that Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is going to release on November 11, the Diwali weekend. We are currently working on exciting marketing strategies to make the release of the Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor starrer an event. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is a complete family entertainer. Sooraj Barjatya and Salman Khan have created magic with their movies in the past, made box office records and with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo – a film that has its heart at the right place – this is the definitely the movie of the year releasing this Diwali.”
Comparison of release date with other ‘Diwali’ releases
2011: Ra One released on the same ‘Diwali puja’ day as Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will release this year. The SRK superhero film was affected by the festivities, but set the record for highest single-day collections on the following day – which is considered to be the best day for film business.
2012: Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardar, both released on ‘Diwali puja’ day. Business of both films was affected on the day of release.
2013: Krrish 3 released two days before ‘Diwali’, which happened to fall on Sunday. But the film managed to set record on Monday and like Ra One, set the record for highest single day collections.
2014: With an eye on records, Shahrukh and Farah Khan decided to release Happy New Year a day after Diwali. That day generated revenues of Rs 44.97 crore, the highest single-day business ever, a record that still stands today!

Songs. That is what will be the biggest pull of the movie. If the movie has even half the decent songs like HAHK, then it will be huge.
The movie is family oriented, and it is Diwali festival, so no doubts families will be going out to watch.
Sunny deol movies are hard core action, so that’s only targeting guys. Now, the guys who were sunny’s fan are having their own family, and 8 of 10 would choose PRDP first than Ghayal. Nobody messes with wives and kids. lol.
Next up is the college going and teenage guys. Most of them are not big fan of Sunny and have not grown up seeing his movies, as it was all Akshay, Aamir, Srk and Salman for them. So, i don’t think they are much excited about the movie.
If this crowd is to be targeted, they need to promote the movie very smartly and not the usual Sunny’s movie with loud dialogues.
The biggest support to Ghayal will however come from the northern areas where Sunny is still considered a star.
So, in short, i guess PRDP should open big, no matter what, in the weekend, and then the story, songs and action, if done well, will get it moving in the festive week.
Ghayal will completely depend on how they present and promote to get it going in the weekend, and if really good, it will surely get some good collections.
