Prem Ratan Dhan Payo to release on ‘Diwali Puja’, gets 5-day weekend

The release date of Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has been announced. The film will release in theatres on Wednesday, 11th November 2015, giving it a extended 5-day weekend at the box office.

Interestingly, and unlike last year when Shahrukh Khan decided to release ‘Happy New Year’ on the day after ‘Diwali Puja’, Sooraj Barjatya and Salman have announced Prem Ratan Dhan Payo to release on the day when business tends to get affected.

Announcing the release date of the film, Barjatya said “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will be releasing during the Festival of Lights – Diwali. Rajshri is proud to partner with Fox Star Studios for this film that will release on November 11. Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor star in this complete family entertainer that we hope will tug at the heart strings of audiences with the Indianness of love, and values it has in its core. Salman is playing a character that he hasn’t played in a long time. He is the quintessential Prem once again that audiences have loved and treasured in their hearts. We are gearing up with release strategies that will unfold soon.”

Vijay Singh, the CEO of Fox Star Studios, was equally proud and excited to announced ‘the movie of the year’.

“We are proud to announce that Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is going to release on November 11, the Diwali weekend. We are currently working on exciting marketing strategies to make the release of the Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor starrer an event. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is a complete family entertainer. Sooraj Barjatya and Salman Khan have created magic with their movies in the past, made box office records and with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo – a film that has its heart at the right place – this is the definitely the movie of the year releasing this Diwali.”

Comparison of release date with other ‘Diwali’ releases

2011: Ra One released on the same ‘Diwali puja’ day as Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will release this year. The SRK superhero film was affected by the festivities, but set the record for highest single-day collections on the following day – which is considered to be the best day for film business.

2012: Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardar, both released on ‘Diwali puja’ day. Business of both films was affected on the day of release.

2013: Krrish 3 released two days before ‘Diwali’, which happened to fall on Sunday. But the film managed to set record on Monday and like Ra One, set the record for highest single day collections.

2014: With an eye on records, Shahrukh and Farah Khan decided to release Happy New Year a day after Diwali. That day generated revenues of Rs 44.97 crore, the highest single-day business ever, a record that still stands today!

  • So no chance of a single day record of HNY!!
And also no chance for lifetime records since PK is way too ahead!!

@indicine:Is Spectre also going to release that weekend?
Also there is Ghayal Once Again..

Looks like this Diwali will be turned into 2011 like when RaOne released.
Also the youth won’t come in huge no. to watch such laborious sanskari films.

  • wohoooo All records are in danger mark my words it will be landmark movie of indian cinema just can,t wait for havoc prdp.

  • Diwali is turning out to be a dull period for bollywood.and this time prdp will face competition from jagga jassos & ghayal once again so I am not expecting much from this movie

  • Its look like they are overconfident about the film.
Also if ghayal once again releases on the same day then no records are in danger.

  • Even if it collects 25 crore on its first day it should be satisfying for everyone involved…44.97 crore looks out of reach on the second day also although it may challenge it

  • when he does any type of commercial action/comedy/thriller movies then all his movies are categorised into a single masala genre with a statement that why can’t he do any other movie other than the masalas and when he does a PRDP then also people seem to have a problem saying that the movie would be too old fashioned drama or too sanskari for today’s youth!!!
@babaji . so does that mean that today’s youth don’t like their families , wouldn’t they like the feel-good family dramas, aren’t the today’s youth not proud of India’s long forgotten culture & tradition ? Does it mean that today’s youth are interested only in the adult & porn movies and are following the western culture to the core ignoring the Indian values altogether? Agree that today’s youth is very different from the youth of 90s & 2000s but we still have not totally deviated from our core traditional values , if HAHK is remade today without changing the core of the story , retaining the richness & greatness of the Indian culture & tradition but if told in a more polished way according to the sensibilities of today’s youth , with some good clean humor & with an apt treatment without being overly sentimental or preachy would still do wonders and the movie would be as big a hit as it was in the 90s. so what matters is how the story is to be conveyed to the target audience and sooraj ji & salman have done their necessary homework , so we are expecting both to give their best.

Following the fking western culture we are losing our own identity as Indians which is such a big shame.

So a extended 5 day weekend would mean 130-150 crore weekend and so if the content is very good or excellent which we are expecting it to be then crossing 300 crores shouldn’t be a big problem :)

  • ghayal once again will definitely give tough competition, and mark my words if content is as good as 50% of the original then PRDP is in danger just like JTHJ, youth will definitely give preference to ghayal one again, who likes family drama nowadays

  • @babaji u said similar things about pk and kick but they turned t biggest blockbusters of the year lol

  • @NVS good ans to that tharki @babaji he is getting scared of salman khan he is tension again salman will rule this year .because his favourite star can’t able to score more then 60 to 70 crore .I bet you gabbar will won’t cross 100 cr

  • @babaji Forget the rest, but Akshay’s highest grosser RR will be crushed by PRDP within 5 days to one week itself.

  • i predict for prdp
    lifetime max: 208 crore.
do not expect more from this movie.
if clash happens then 170 crore max.

  • Sooraj sahib is best in its own line. At least this time we’r gonna expect different from SK.
To release a day after the festival would earn a records for it like HNY. It must have a target of at least 250 cr.

  • sallu is very very very luck with prdp and kick and ett.
srk sir was very unlucky with don 2 and hny.
now christmas also falls on friday really disappointing! those who know how highly a movie benefits from 5 days extended weekends they know it.
but if fan really gets released on 23th sept i am more happy than 2nd oct although, 23 septh does not have festives.

  • Two biggest festival of the world Eid & Diwali and two biggest flims of them world releasing respectively .This is shows the stardom and

  • This is a wise move, as a film like this is not supposed to break opening records but is meant for a long run unless its a Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon sequel!

  • Salman is nothing with out masala film, Prdp will turn a big disappointment whether it get solo release or clash with ghayel2, bajrangi bhaijaan will be huge but it can’t be kick or ce. DILWALE will be the highest grosser of 2015, mark my words.

  • Even Sooraj also know Salman can’t drive a content driven family drama on his shoulder …

that’s why he included fight sequences in PRDP which is very first time in his movies..
Nowadays, among family audience Salman has lost his good lover boy image,
Now he have only criminal image with no respect to family values…
