Players Box Office – Another FLOP for Abhishek Bachchan

Players has opened to a poor response at the Indian box-office. The film started slow on Friday and showed no jump in business on Saturday. On Sunday collections picked up considerably, but even that was too-little-too-late for a film made on a budget of around 65 crores!

Out of the 65 odd crores, the producers have recovered about 53 crores (see below). The remaining amount has to be recovered from overseas collections.

  • All India rights sold for : 33 crores
  • Satellite rights: 15 crores
  • Other rights (music etc): 5 crores

With the way Players has opened in India and overseas, both the producers as well as the India-distributors are likely to suffer huge losses.

To break-even, the Abhishek Bachchan – Sonam Kapoor starrer has to collect a minimum of 70 crores nett in India and about 20 crores overseas. Both figures are highly unlikely – with the slow start, hardly any jump in collections over the weekend and mixed word-of-mouth, it’s unlikely to cross 40 crores nett in India.

What remains to be seen is, if Players will hold-on during the weekdays. With no major releases before Agneepath on 26th January, the film has more than 2 weeks to recover as much as it possibly can!

Verdict (barring miracles) – FLOP

  • Hey guys ,,it hurts that Abhi is a great person,,bt movies r getting flops,,::oh abhi i wish dostana 2,,nd bol bachchan gives u grand success,,,;;

  • Yes, it’s sad. The fact that he’s Amitabh Bachchan’s son has gotten him a lot of films, but has also meant that he’s judged against one of the best actors in the country. It not been easy for him, unfortunately.

  • i think abhishek should choose more safe ways like comedy/masala film..he looks sweet.acts well..n his witty personality goes with comedy genre more than action/thriller.. Hope dostana2 will be hit for him

  • i think abhishek should choose safe ways like comedy/masala film..he looks sweet.acts well..n his witty personality goes with comedy genre more than action/thriller.. Hope dostana2 will be hit for him

  • He has no looks and lucks in here…He should stop bankrupting his producers and search for side jobs(baby sitter best for him even his daughter dint bring luck on him) uday chopra seems clever than him…

  • He’d just going through a bad phase plus the critics are always against him for reasons best known to them. He’s a decent actor and has given good performances in the past. The fact that he has no chamchas is going against him. Raavan actually put a dent on his box office standing and Mani Ratnam is to be blamed but abhishek is getting blamed instead. He will surely make a come back , it’s just a matter of time

  • So sorry for him.Look the kids like Ranbir, Imran n even Ranveer are way ahead of him.Once he was compared with Srk and Hritik but now c!
    He has become another Jackie
shroff lol but his yuva n guru were great but after that he has given more than 25 i guess either disaster, washout, or flop or colossal disappointment one after another except few average like dostana… …

  • @ghost what do you mean he looks bad?? Looks doesn’t matter my friend. Look ugly actors are ruling bollywood Rajnikanth, Srk ,Ajay Devgan. You need skill, stardom, power, media link, good script, good camps or combination of these to become successful not just looks and lucks.Get it:)

  • How sad?I think apart from Abhishek Sonam also should be listed as flopstar.I don’t know why, despite good looks & acceptable level of performance,Sonam fails in box office all the time.Even IHLS also managed t do just average business. Both Sonam & Abhishek should know wat script t accept & wat script t reject.

This may be the first flop for Abbas-Mustan.

One more point: players being flop in BO means Don 2 is going t benefit from it.Not bad.

  • its rather unfortunate people expect too much out of every actor, Abishhek is not a bad actor but wrong movies he has taken, he is not capable to act in every kind of role, he is not supposed to be given chances like this. He is one type od actor family drama kinda things and some little comedies and some side roles. its not fair for him to be given such films. the filma makers shud give chance to new actors, there are plenty in the country. Why big banners are dpending too much on yesteryear star children why cant they bring in new crop of actors.

  • i watched the film on saturday, its not that bad, id say its pretty good. i would give it a 3.5 or 4 out of 5 stars. the only down factor was that Bobby Deol didn’t have enough screen time, the film was a little bit too slow (except for the climax and pre climax and the scene of the theft and part where sonam enters in the second half and goes after neil nitin mukesh) and the title song was missing.

  • Getting married killed Abhisheks career. He should act with Rani in the remake of Abhimaan. It may work for him……

  • its a nice movie, only if u watch it ,shall u like it ,its sad crap movies like ready, don, work, its all about star power.

  • Dats nice to hear dat its flop..whole india were keen on seeing ur baby..but u n ur crappy family..bahot bhaav khate ho na..AISH ke saat shaadi hua tabse hawe mein ud rahe ho..now u r paying for dat..ABHISHEK will keep on giving flops..Quit acting n get out..haha

  • I am not a fan of junior AB
    I HAVE WATCHED PLAYERS
ITS NOT AS BAD MOVIE AS CRITICS SHOWN
JUST A MISMATCH OF STARCAST OTHERWISE ITS A TO DAY MOVIE
    WITH SONGS, GLAMOUR,LOCATION,ETC
but then also i can say
that he is not a great actor but still he is good actor
look at HRITHIK after having all talent
    he is not upto mark
    don’t forget his performances in
    YUVA,BUNTY N BABLI,DHOOM, DHOOM2,
N HIS BEST PERFORMANCE IN GURU
    HE IS DECENT ACTOR
JUST HE HAD CHOOSE WRONG SCRIPTS
LIKE AKKI(I M BIG FAN OF AKKI)
JUST WAIT FOR GOOD SCRIPT THESE 2 ACTORS WILL BACK WITH BANG

  • abhisrek life and career was ruined the day he married the witch aishwaya, notice that no top heroine wants to work with him he only gets heroine like sonam and bips

  • “yeh to hona hi tha”
kaamyabi unko milti h jo apne raste khud banate hain… sachchai cheekh ke keh rahi hai ki abhishek film hit karwa hi nahi sakte..
    phir bhi “lage raho”
Sam Ewing ne kaha hai.. “Success has a simple formula: do your best, and people may like it.”

  • Its sad..as Director’s wasting the good acting talent of Abhi..Three points to be considered seriously..
    1) Indian movie producers are still not matured that how much to spent on the project..Many movies like this are over-budget..
    2) If Abhishek Bachchan can give hits like “Bunti aur Bubly”, “Sarkar”, “Guru”, “Dhoom”, “Dus”,”Dostana”, “Bluffmaster”…than definately its Directors and Producers mistakes not use him properly..
    3) Abbas mastan should control his budget as well select the salable starcast specially when going for big Budget..

  • If this movie would have the budget of 30 – 35 carore then definitely “Players” would have been a hit or Semi-hit at-least..

  • It is an unfortunate situation for our industry. I watched Players in theater. i would rate it as 3/5 for first half and 3.75/5 for second half. So it’s no classic but definitely enjoyable. Compare that to Don-2 which was a horrible movie. Even Bodyguard was not that good. (Dabbang was way better). That just goes to say how much camps, media management etc matter now a days. As many people have said AB jr is no Amitabh but he has definitely improved a lot. Even dum maaro dum was a good movie.
