PK Ticket Price Analysis: Compared to Happy New Year and normal movies

Our inbox has been bombarded with mails after the “PK Ticket Price” article that we published last evening. Aamir Khan’s spokesperson had said in a statement that the makers have decided not to increase ticket prices. But when we started receiving emails and tweets from our readers, we decided to do a quick research on ticket booking portal bookmyshow and a few exhibitors across the country.

The results were shocking.

The ticket prices of PK have not just been increased by 10-15%, but some multiplexes are selling tickets for 30-40-50% more than other releases. Premium tickets, at some centres, are also higher than other festival releases like Kick and Happy New Year.

In fact, a reliable source has informed us that Gaiety Galaxy has decided not to screen PK due to disagreement over ticket pricing.

Below is a quick comparison between the ticket prices of PK compared to normal movies and bigger releases like Happy New Year (HNY) and Kick.

  • 24 Karat Jogeshwari (Mumbai) – Normal movies Rs 250, HNY / Kick Rs 300, PK Rs 300 (same as big festive releases)
  • Big Cinemas Metra (Mumbai) – Normal movies Rs 350, HNY / Kick Rs 400, PK Rs 420 (higher than HNY / KICK)
  • Fun Cinemas Shahdara (Delhi) – Business class tickets – Normal movies Rs 400, HNY / Kick Rs 500, PK Rs 600!
  • Big Cinemas Ansal (Noida) – Normal movies Rs 150, HNY / Kick Rs 180-200, PK Rs 220.
  • Cinepolis (Mangalore) – Normal movies Rs 150, PK Rs 200.

And finally, at PVR Forum Mall Koramangala (Bangalore), PK ticket prices have doubled. Night show of Action Jackson or Lingaa (Tamil) on a weekday costs Rs 190. For the same show tomorrow, a ticket of PK has been priced at Rs 380!

In short, the ticket prices of PK are either at the same level of Happy New Year / KICK or higher.
