Amitabh Bachchan’s PINK is certain to be a clean box office ‘hit’ as the film is sustaining very well at the domestic box office. The film will recover all of its costs by the end of its first week and become a profitable venture second week onwards.
The potential for big growth in the second weekend is very much there as there are no major releases until the release of ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ on September 30. Banjo might open in Mumbai circuit, but PINK will likely remain the top choice at multiplexes.
What sort of final total PINK manages depends on the kind of growth it shows this coming weekend. The trend and collections are very similar to ‘Neerja’, but that film had almost one full month open run at multiplexes and it was also declared tax-free in many states. So Pink is unlikely to get to those huge 70 crore plus numbers, but there is a chance the film could cross the 60 crore mark.

If Kahaani 2 is anywhere close to its prequel Kahaani in terms of thrill,suspense and story then nobody will be able to save our “GLOBAL PANKHA SALESMAN”cult classic tragedic movie “Beer ki Zindagi”
in which he would play the role of Alia’s Dadaji who is living his life happily drinking “4 bottles of beer a day”.God knows what will be the future of SRK’s carrer which is only declining day after day.

If you take inflation and ticket prices into consideration.. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is still the biggest multiplex grosser.. 90 crore in 2011 is worth more than 140-150 crore today.

There are reasons why niche films aren’t collection 100 crs…..
First, they are niche films, so the target audience is narrowed down already, with no mass entertaining factors like songs, dance, item numbers, exotic locales etc.,
Second, due to the above, the opening of the movie is not great, and by the time it starts picking up, the weekend is almost over, so no advantage on that front too.
Third, niche movies hardly releases on any big holidays, so again the collections are not great.”
Further, you are wrong when you say niche films “failed”, because on a limited budget like 35-40 cr, a movie getting 60+ crore is almost double the budget…..so it is a successful outing for the makers.
The big entertainment movies collections fuels the production houses to put funds in such niche movies which brings in good profit…….so, all kinds of movie are good for the production houses as well as we audience too.
@JC even Rustom, Airlift budget was just 40 without akki fees so budget isn’t d problem. Above movies Stars doesn’t have the kind of pull akki have nowadays in big cities.
