Anushka Sharma’s ‘Phillauri’ is struggling at the domestic box office, even as the three-week old ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ continues to outperform and compete with newer releases.
The first weekend business of ‘Phillauri’ was higher than a film like ‘NH10’, the trend is comparitively much weaker. While ‘NH10’ dropped by 37% on Monday from Friday, ‘Phillauri’ has dropped by 50% on Day 4 from Day 1.
The other factor that helped ‘NH10’ get to a reasonably good total (Rs 32.5 crore) were the 3 open weeks at the box office in March 2015. ‘Phillauri’ will get no such benefit as another female-centric film ‘Naam Shabana’ is scheduled to hit theatres this week.
‘Phillauri’ will finish with lifetime business of around 24-25 crore. Inspite of the boost that Diljit Dosanjh’s presence got in the East Punjab circuit, the film will still struggle to recover its costs.
Meanwhile, ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhana’ is showing no signs of slowing down even in its 3rd week – about the time when most films are out of theatres these days. The film has actually managed to show growth on its 3rd Tuesday due to holiday for Gudi Padwa / Ugadi. The Varun-Alia starrer has collected Rs 110 crore in 19 days, it should end Week 3 with net box office collections of 112 crore.
‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ will finish with lifetime business of 115 crore – which is exactly the total we predicted in ‘IndicineLBO’.
Anushka won’t really b affected by this failure. It takes guys to produce films low NH10 & Phillauri. Rehnuma should b huge for her as Imtiaz’s films always have strong female lead

She will do a 200cr movie with SRK later in the year and indicine will call her number actress. Phillauri is no sultan or Pk to rake in 300cr lol. She’s Lucky she has srk’s next.

I think its just touch n go for badrinath ki dulhania to cross 116.92 CR’s of jolly llb 2..it will too settle at around same figure as jolly..
Even though badri found appreciation both in multiplexes n ss,weak or nil competition in the subsequent weeks did the trick for badri to collect this much,not taking any credit from varun n alia though as both are future superstars from younger generation!!!

Phillauri should be at least average which is between decent and good for that kind of films. She’s very brave to try this kind of original projects as a producer. Rehnuma will be huge for her so it’s good to try risky stuff between big projects.
why u r always using words like unstoppable and doing exceedingly well etc. for BKD? the total collection is mere 115cr at the end of 3rd week. from ur headings it feels as if it has crossed 150 and going somewhere 180. plz help me to understand, how a 115cr is so good for BKD? even a similar budget movie TWMR did 155+ 2 yrs ago. then how come BKD is a big winner?

Please publish an article comparing box office collections of BKD nd jolly llb2 since both films were out in dull periods nd are huge success. It will be intrstng to analyze star powers of future superstar Varun wid most consistent star this time Akshay kumar.
Here in Navi Mumbai, single screen theater cancelled two shows of phillauri and gave it to BKD

Phillauri is made with a budget of 21crore. It had recovered 12 crore from satellite and music rights. It is on track to make 25 crores.
Worldwide lifetime (India + Worldwide) should be at least 40-45 crores.
Budget – 21 crore
Domestic Lifetime Box Office – 25 crore (Prediction)
Satellite Rights – 12 crore
Total Profit : 25 crore + 12 crore – 21 crore = 16 crore
Add Worldwide Lifetime Box Office – 10 crore (Prediction)
Total profit = 26 crore.
So, Phillauri is not a disaster or a flop. It is an average grosser. It is not fair to compare Phillauri to Badrinath as the latter is more expensive to make and cater to the masses whereas Phillauri is more of a nichè.
