Phantom Box Office Opening

Saif Ali Khan’s Phantom has taken a slow start at the domestic box office on Friday. The opening at multiplexes in cities was at around the 30-35% mark, while smaller centres were poor, but better than what most Saif films usually open at.

The opening is at around the same level as Baby and slightly lower than Dil Dhadakne Do.

Katrina’s presence and Kabir Khan as director should help escalate the business towards the end of the day.

Please tell me about the real box office collection of DDLJ as it is running from the last 20 years yet everyone shows its collection approx 61 crore. How it is possible to remain on 61 from the last 30 years. This is a 3rd time I am asking this question to you & hope I will get my answer this time.

    Thankyou

  • Phantom has got a decent first day Friday opening at the box office. The early trends suggest an average 1st day collection on the cards depending on the improvement in the evening and night shows.
The opening is slightly lower than Baby which beloned to a similar space and had a bigger release size. Phantom has released on around 2300 + screens so the evening growth holds the key now. The opening suggest a number in the range of 6+ cr but a good turnaround in the evening and late night shows may push the film to a further higher first day total.
The good will of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kabir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan’s combined star power has helped in the opening numbers. The film has a holiday tomorrow and if the reports are really good then the film might score a good day two. The budget is the on the higher side so the film needs a good growth in the weekend followed a steady week days and good business in second and third week in order to sail through the mark.
The film is unlikely to score in mass belts like CP-Berar, CI, Rajasthan, Bihar or Nizam but the metros and belts like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Gurgaon, Mysore, Bangalore, Kolkata etc might really contribute to the film in case of strong word of mouth.

  • What the hell wrong with this shitty azar fan….commenting in evry article about tht….bhaaad me ja….no one will watch that movie:/

  • Well, most likely it will be an avg grosser
Saif 2 years back was on super high but today he is not even in a race of top 10
He makes a gr8 second lead , letting go raees role is sumthing which he will zurely regret

  • I watched it a less-popular mall in Dubai yesterday and it was housefull! I was surprised but happy at the same time for Saifu! He has done some poor movies in the past but he’s no doubt a good actor! The movie was very good! Both acted well but the direction and editing was amazing! The lack of unnecessary masala may negatively impact the Indian audiences though since its very serious and intense right till the end. 3.5/5 from my side! Hope it becomes a success!

  • good..i think at the end of the day…it will be around 50-60 %
opening day 7.5+ crs In Sha Allah
since reviews are good and assuming wom is positive it should show good growth on day two plus there is raksha bandhan…so an escalation of 30 to 40 % can be easily expected. saturday should be around 10-11 crs and should follow the same pattern on sunday and could be around 12-13 crs
    weekend- 30-32 crs
    first week 50-55 crs..lifetime 85+ crs

  • @akshay just wait n watch..storm coming on 13th may 2016.. Azhar biopic will rock box office.. And blow away everything that comes its way..emraan-gautam-nargis trio will rock.

  • it will be disaster. salllaa Pakistan k khelaf bnay ga to flop hi hogi. Indian directors should learn that the film which is against Pakistan disaster in overseas and in India too. The people of India know thatt this type of movies make a gap between two countries

  • Bollywood should make movies like bajrangi bhaijaan, pk, piku and haider not phantom types which makes distance between two countries

  • @sameer_real LOL DDLJ is running at only one theater. That also with very low ticket prices. Even poor beggars can afford to buy a ticket if they want to sleep in the AC. After few years DDLJ tickets will be available for 5 rupees.
DDLJ couldn’t beat collection of HAHK, and it never will.

  • I hope it crosses 100 Cr because kabir is back with fresh success of BB. So it will be a very big disappointment if phantom flops at the BO.

  • Well its saif plus the content is not family oriented and entertainment, as simple as that if a movie is not for family entertainment , neat and clean no violence no bloodshed no action then u may have a chance of family crowds sneaking into theatres , thats how it works !

  • History has it that whenever Salman Khan dies in a film, it’s a flop at the Box-Office. ‘Veergati’, ‘Hello Brother’, ‘Phir Milenge’, ‘KyonKi’, ‘Baabul’ are examples to prove this theory. Even ‘Tere Naam’ which took a huge opening at the BO settled for Above Average – Semi-Hit status because of the huge drop in the second week. That is due to the second half of the film where Salman Khan was treated badly in the film. It seems Salman Khan fans don’t want to see their hero in that state. What’s funny is that SRK, Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar can die in their movies, yet they can be HITS. However, if Salman Khan dies in his films, they don’t succeed. I guess we want to see Salman Khan have a happy ending.

  • @Sameer : There is a difference between Theatrical run and lateral/tribute run (some calls as in memory of the movie , in other words in praise of movie not for business purpose).

Theatrical run : From release to end of its run in India (you are asking about India/domestic collections). Generally this period last 4-5 weeks in current scenario however at time DDLJ which was single screen era and multiplex were non existence I guess it was 12-15 weeks (as DDLJ was one of the biggest movie in bollywood). The collections from this period is called as Total Domestic Box office collections (India only).

Lateral/Tribute run : Since DDLJ was one of the iconic movie YRF decided to run it in Maratha Mandir in tribute to the movie. This was decided solely by YRF who are producers and makers of DDLJ and not by entire industry or most importantly by trade (people who oversee the business). In that case Sholay and Mughlam-e-Azam released numerous times in theaters as they were iconic movies in history but those collections were never added to their Lifetime collections.

HAHK (1994) had more foot falls than DDLJ (1995) and released in same era (non multiplex) hence HAHK collections (India/domestic) are higher than DDLJ !!!!!!!!

I hope this clarifies your question ?

  • One more flop for saif now he should quite bollywood and go for holiday with begum and Akshay should join this trips too with Twinkle twinkle little star
