The Censor Board of Film Certification has passed Udta Punjab under ’A’ category (restricted for adult audience) with 13 cuts.
While the court verdict on the case is awaited, actor Shatrughan Sinha has defended CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani saying he’s only following guidelines that have been laid down by the government since years.
“Firstly, I haven’t seen Udta Punjab, I will soon. Speaking purely from an objective point of view, Pahlaj is doing a thankless job, and doing it most efficiently. Filmmakers who attack him forget that he has not made the rules. He is only following the guidelines laid down by the government. Don’t shoot the messenger if you don’t like the message”
Sinha asked the government to make changes in the rules instead “Until that happens, don’t abuse the CBFC chief for clamping down on abuses. He’s just doing his job. According to me, Pahlaj is the best CBFC chairperson ever”
There have been reports that it was Sinha who strongly recommended Pahlaj’s name for the post of the chief of CBFC.
Talking about the excessive abuses used in films produced by Anurag Kashyap, Sinha said “I don’t use that kind of language in my everyday conversation. I’ve never used abusive language even while playing ruthless villains on screen. I always made sure that my dialogues did not disparage women or any community or caste. Why must characters make their point with profanities?”

A pretty mature statement by Shatrughan Sinha . A lot of people have criticised Pahlaj Nihalani and Censor Board way too much . I am not supporting him either but there are rules and unless they are not changed no matter whoever becomes the chief the situation will not change . As for being the Best Chief this was something which is very tough to believe . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr.Pahlaj has produced so many films for Sinha.But that doesn’t mean he can call a Spade as Jack.
His excuse of dialogues in the movies is very weird.
Dialogues in Udta Punjab cannot be written by keeping the 70’s era in mind.

This movie reflects the real scenario of Punjab’s youth, even Rahul Ganhi have spoken about it some years ago.

what the f*** sinha is showing stupidity in his statement. he have not use abusive language doesnot mean that others should not. they are making the movie based in reality of millions. they can use the best possible way to show the scene in right order. by the way cheers the movie is releasing this week anyway :D XD

I amn’t a supporter of absuive language. But i am not agree with you sinha sir. Obviously, drug addict use abusive language. It dosn’t mean if you not use abusive language means others don’t. Yeah it true everyone don’t use abusive language always but it also true there are also many people who use abusive language mostly. I am sure sinha sir you may have also use absuive language atleast once. So, drug addict has definitely use abusive language most of the time.
I think he support palhaj nihalini because he is the one who recommend nihalini’s name for chief of CBFC.
