Akshay Kumar has announced the release date of his first release of 2018 – Padman – produced by his wife Twinkle Khanna. The film tells the story of social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, who revolutionised the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating a low-cost sanitary napkin machine.
The film releases in theatres during the beginning of the IPL period. It was a period that was considered to be risky due to the impact of the IPL, but has been outstanding for film business in the last couple of years.
The date falls exactly in between the time when ‘The Jungle Book’ (2015) and ‘Bahubali 2: The Conclusion’ (2016) released and did phenomenal business.
Directed by R Balki, Padman also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte.
