Anees Bazmee’s Welcome Back and Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet were the first two films announced for the Christmas weekend this year. However, earlier this year, the makers of Aamir Khan’s P.K took a late decision to postpone their film from June 6th (Post-IPL) to December 19th (a week before Christmas).
Soon after the announcement, all hell broke lose. Anurag Kashyap was upset and so were the producer-director duo of Firoz Nadiadwala and Anees Bazee. Afterall, you can’t afford to clash with an Aamir Khan film directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Surely not after 3 Idiots, one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Indian Cinema.
Kashyap preponed his film by a month, from Christmas to November 28th. Anees Bazmee decided not to hurry and pushed his film to early 2015. But soon reports emerged that the makers of Welcome Back have decided to stick to their original release date.
When we tried to find out, a source close to the ‘Welcome Back’ team said “We are in a race against time to complete the film. The final shooting schedule of Welcome Back will begin in August. A few scenes and songs are yet to be shot, after which we move on to post-production.”
When asked if Welcome Back would release along with P.K, the source said “Our producer (Feroz Nadiadwala) wants to release the film on the same date, as there are no dates in January. Christmas would be perfect for our film to release”
Releasing a film against P.K – starring Aamir Khan, directed by Rajkumar Hirani and backed by UTV Motion Pictures – would need elaborate planning, marketing, strategy and good content.
The big question is, if Welcome Back does release during Christmas, can it survive the P.K wave?
Welcome Back stars John Abraham, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Naseeruddin Shah, Shruti Haasan, Shiney Ahuja and Dimple Kapadia. The film is a sequel to Akshay Kumar’s 2007 blockbuster ‘Welcome’.
P.S: Remember the reports of Action Jackson vs Holiday earlier this year? Action Jackson was supposed to release in the first week of May, was then postponed to June and now will release in November.
PK vs. Wecome Back for Christmas and Bang Bang vs. Haider. Happy New Year is Farah Khan’s movie. Farah Khan is Sajid Khan’s sister & Shirish Kunder’s wife. So expectation is very low. That’s mean Kick will be biggest grosser of 2014.

Welcome was a good comedy film, but I doubt its sequel is big enough to clash with Aamir-Raju combo, especially without Akshay.
No side note, Bang Bang teaser is releasing tomorrow and it will be also attached with Kick in theaters.

Welcome back will postpone to next year but producers r not announcing bcoz they r getting free publicity bcoz of this clash news with PK.

This is what Welcome Back makers will do, they will change their release date just a week before release, by that time they would have earned a lot of free publicity. But mark my words there will be no clash. Noone can clash with Aamir and Salman today.

PK: first 300 crores
I think there is scope for both films…PK will be always ahead but Welcome back will do well if songs and trailer strike the right chord…

PK will be hurt more than wellcome back. We all are expecting a recordbreaking BO outcome from PK. After 3 idiots, if that not happen it will surely be a disappointment. On the other hand, not much expectation from Wellcome back. If it do decent 70+ cr. would be enough but for PK a 250+ cr. is expected. Anyhow, christmas release has 3 weeks free run, so it will get enough time for both films to gross ultimate.

AKSHAY’s Welcome clashed with the so called superstar aamir’s taare zameen par, WELCOME thrashed TZP completely and emerged as a winner despite great reviews for TZP. Just 2-3 blockbusters and people think khans are bigger, if Akshay was in Welcome Back, it would have gone neck to neck with pk but with the current starcast, i think it may not beat pk but will do great business and eat some of pk’s business too. remember, PK is not a universal film like 3 idiots,d3 etc.

@aman mathur But the same banner with a reputable director like Farhan only 11 months earlier during Christmas released a sequel to a popular brand ie DON and did only around 20 cr or so more than Talaash… With the holiday factor Sarkar didnt exactly set jingle bells ringing during christmas and you having a pop at Aamir who released his film during a non holiday period and with a relatively non popular director- come on be fair now…
