Mary Kom First Week Collections: Biopic underperforms at the box office

After a good opening weekend, Mary Kom has failed to sustain during the weekdays at the domestic box office. The film had a good first weekend of Rs 28 crore, but business across all circuits dropped by nearly 60% on Monday from Sunday. The slide from Monday onwards wasn’t big, but the damage was done on the first weekday itself.

With Finding Fanny and Creature 3D releasing in theatres this weekend, Mary Kom is likely to continue its struggle in Week 2.

The Priyanka Chopra starrer is a profitable film for its producers, but it’s the distributors who will end up in the red. Mary Kom should finish with lifetime business of around 50-55 crore net.

  • Friday – 8.02 cr

  • Thursday – 3 cr (expected)
  • First Week Total – 42.77 crore

  • @sir emraan hashmi…PC did right thing by rejecting it, cos natwarlal flopped big time. mary kom atleast being average. and dont even think A-listed heroines are going to sign any movie with emraan.

anyways, its time for emraan to retire after 4-5 consecutive flops. and nobody wishes him here. sorry.

  • So I found it 2 out of 10 just like u could find fanny 2 out of10.but I will nvr bash if u do so bcz I respect everyones opinion

  • All the excuses come out why it didn’t do. blah blah blah blah.

Also, @nipun, has used this opportunity to give his reviews, that he didn’t like, ho-hum!

I wished and wanted it to work, just for PC.

  • Around 60+ would have been great for Mary Kom.

So, it means, Kangana is all set to get the award for best performance, as no movie has trended in to the 4th week as Queen, except 4 years back 3idiots.

  • @indicine, if the distributors are in the red, means it is a flop, right?

producers nowadays always makes profit with music rights, television rights etc., it is the distributors who are at risk, and i guess if the distributors ain’t making the profit, the movie is in fact a flop, in real terms, as a movie is released for the audience, and if the audience didn’t make the numbers as desired by the distributors, accordingly in the market the movie is labelled a ‘flop’.

pls correct me if am wrong.

  • @praveen dont be jealous of emmi bhai’s success. Had there been top heroine in raja natwarlal, it would have been a success.

  • Dont overrate PC’s performance. She was doing music videos like Exotic, In My City, I Cant Make You Love Me, and item songs like Ram Chahe Leela and Babli Badmaash during the last 2 years. She was not totally focussed on her performance.
She built a good physique but she failed to give a proper body language. Her body language in the boxing ring was very bad. She didnt seem a boxer at all.

  • According to Koimoi the movie has made 46 cores on the opening week and around 10 cores over seas, which brings the total to 56 cores world wide, which is really good for this movie because it was only made on a budget of 25 cores. Also, the movie is doing really well on its second Friday despite the new releases. I think the world-wide collections for this movie will be around 80 cores for life time collection. Mary Kom is officially the 10th highest grossing movie of the year yet so much negativity around it because it does not have a big hero.

  • A big blow for Priyanka Chopra whos Mary Kom has flopped miserably at the boxoffice. With Mary Kom flopping at the boxoffice. All eyes will be on Creature 3D and Finding Fanny. Mary Kom will finish up with
50cr at the boxoffice making it a flop at the boxoffice.

  • We have seen woman centric films clicking at the boxoffice and the trend was started by Vidya Balan whos past four films have won her best screen and Filmfare Awards and even a National award for Dirty Picture. It all started with Paa(hit)-2009, Ishqiya(hit)-2010, Dirty Picture(blockbuster)-2011, Kahaani(Superhit)-2012. Queen(Superhit)-2014. It clearly shows that Priyanka is no match to Vidyas stardom and also in histronics. Mary Kom is a big let down and is a big flop at the boxoffice and will struggle to cross even 50cr as Mary Kom will finish up with 47 to 48cr and will flop at the boxoffice. For Mary Kom to become a hit it has to touch 60cr says the trade and the boxoffice. A big blow to Priyanka chopra.

  • Yes i agree with nisar as Vidya won four consecutive best actress Screen and Filmfare Awards for Paa, Ishqiya, Dirty Picture and Kahaani which is a new record and till now even Madhuri whos considered as the biggest star actress has not won four consecutive Screen and Filmfare Awards. Though Madhuri has got 6 Filmfare Awards and 4 Screen Awards and leads the list in Filmfare and in Screen Madhuri is tied with Vidya clearly shows that Vidya has got huge stardom and added to it her great histronics. Yes Mary Kom has flopped miserably at the boxoffice and will not even cross 45cr forget about touching 50cr. Mary Kom is a flop and a big blow to Priyanka Chopra and has dented Priyankas career as an actress.

  • Mary Kom has flopped miserably at the boxoffice and will struggle to touch 50cr a big blow to Priyanka Chopra and yes many of the viewers are agreeing that Priyanka is no match to Vidya be it in stardom or in histronics and i agree with them as Vidya has won four consecutive Screen and Filmfare awards for Paa, Ishiqiya, Dirty Picture and Kahaani, while Paa and Ishqiya were hits at the boxoffice, Dirty Pictue was a big blockbuster and Kahaani was a superhit. For Dirty Picture Vidya has also won a National Award and also Vidya has created a new record of winning for consecutive best actress Screen and Filmfare awards from 2009 to 2012. A feat even Indias biggest star actress Madhuri couldnt do it yes Madhuri has won six filmfare awards and leads the list and in Screen awards Madhuri is tied with Vidya.
So Mary Kom flopping at the boxoffice is no suprising at all.

  • 2 stars for the movie and one extra star for Priyanka Chopra..it lacks the soul of BMB and was more of a masala movie than a biopic..
