Madhuri Dixit’s second release of 2014 fails at the box office

Comeback films of arguably Bollywood’s most successful actress of her time, have failed to set the cash registers ringing at the box office. Aaja Nachle, Dedh Ishqiya and now Gulaab Gang have all failed to recover costs through theatrical business.

The reason could well be because of the choice of films that Madhuri has opted for. None of her films were expected to do well commercially, although Dedh Ishqiya remains her biggest success as far as critical acclaim is concerned.

Madhuri’s second release of 2014, Gulaab Gang, opened poorly last Friday, showed decent growth on Saturday and Sunday but failed to sustain Monday onwards.

Gulaab Gang will collect 12 crore in its first week and finish with lifetime business of around 17 crore. The distributor’s share will be in the 8-9 crore range.

In comparison, Madhuri’s Aaja Nachle collected 14.27 crore in 2007 and Dedh Ishqiya collected Rs 28.1 crore earlier this year.

Below we have the day-wise business of the film

  • Friday – 2.18 cr
  • Saturday – 3.05 cr
  • Sunday – 3.5 cr
  • Monday – 1.1 cr
  • Tuesday – 0.9 cr
  • Total – 10.73 cr

Verdict – Flop

  • Indicine, you are posting box office updates of unsuccessful movies; but why aren’t you publishing BO update of most successful movie this week, Queen?

  • Madhuri Dixit needs to do 10 films in a year in order one by luck clicks,
This is how she used to do before and get away with!!

  • The film could have gotten a better chance if it had been released before the documentary. Female centric films have a hard time in the box office even in Hollywood. Such films need an exciting hook to make it work. Anyway no matter how you slice or dice it Madhuri is still the best dancer in BW.

  • Shows what a legend sridevi is, 15 years later, 1 comeback, and you see the result, that is what you call a legend. like aamir khan, sridevi is in a league of her own

  • 100percents true Farazji. if the movies want 2be successful must have a good storyline and first must give important for ACT not for dancing…………..If the movie failed
in the box office ther’r no point to say COMEBACK.
