After LSD, Neha Chauhan back with another hard-hitting film

Those of you who were wondering where Neha Chauhan, the girl-next-door, had disappeared after LSD – Love Sex aur Dhokha, well she is very much around. Just that she wanted to take up a script that she absolutely loved. And she got it with ‘G Kutta Se’ where she plays a girl from a Haryana village, who falls in love with a boy of her own village, supposed to be a strict taboo in rural parts of the state as every boy and girl in a village are considered brother and sister. The film premiered at the MAMI festival recently and there was a melee for invites outside the theatre while inside the auditorium people were standing in the aisles to watch it. It seems the wait after all was worth it for Neha.

Q. Why the 6 year gap between LSD & G Kutta se?

Neha – I wouldn’t look at it as a gap. Not many people know that I had actually moved to Mumbai to be a film maker. Immediately after LSD I got busy with a documentary based on postmen working in Dharavi slums. Then I got involved with theatre and couple of other projects. So there was always work happening. ‘G’- we had actually shot it couple of years ago, it’s releasing now after doing the rounds of few festivals.

Q. The subject matter of G Kutta se is again very hard hitting, are these are the kind of films that interest your more?

Neha – More than it being hard hitting I felt it’s so relevant and needs to be addressed on an urgent basis. It’s a shame that our society is still not free from the clutches of such regressive beliefs. I will continue to extend my support to such grave issues in whatever big or small way I can. On the professional front I want to do all kinds of films. I don’t want to limit myself.

Q. You were seen in Amitabh Bachchan’s Yudh, why no more TV? Do daily soaps interest you?

Neha – In the past I had been offered TV, a couple of times but it didn’t interest me enough. I don’t want to do it just for the heck of it. I wouldn’t bet an eyelid if there is something challenging and exciting, something that even I would enjoy watching.

G Kutta Se releases in theatres on 16th June 2017.
