Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee – Movie review

No word has a single definition. There is not a single perspective about life. Life is dreamt and viewed different. So is ambition and to attain this, priorities become compromises and principles change with need and time.

Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee by Vikram Bhatt illustrates this very fact. It?s about the journey of five friends who choose diverse routes to attain one common goal in five years- Happiness.

Without wasting anytime, we are introduced to the main characters of the movie. The five freshly graduated friends, who are put behind the bars for drunken driving, try to coin their definition for happiness.

Rajeev (Dino Morea) aims to be a top industry magnate. Mona (Nauhid Cyrusi) aspires to be the finest actress of Bollywood. Jai (Sameer Dattani) is determined to be a powerful politician. Ishita (Anjori Alagh) is a moneygrubber. Whereas Manish (Aftab Shivdasani) decides to be the accountant of their dreams, he makes them pitch fifty each and bets them for a total of 200, saying whoever is happiest at the end of five years will be entitled to this money.

In next few years, life goes on like this for these five friends.

Manish, entices Richa (Koel Puri), a banker to the altar; they have a baby. He loses his job as a magazine reporter, but fetches fortune to his expected child by writing an autobiography for some one not revealing his identity.

At first unhappy and uncomfortable Mona, with the functioning of the glamorous movie industry, eventually cheats on her supportive and trusting boyfriend Mohit (Anuj Sawhnney) to get main lead in bigger banners.

Rajeev?s deceitful strategy to acquire a deal at any cost agitates his upright elder brother (Mohinish Bahl) and sister-in-law (Aarti Bahl).

Ishita shrewdly plans and also succeeds in marrying a wealthy man and lives a life of comfort and (Raj Zutshi).

Jai becomes peerless for his political party by getting any job done by his wily tricks and plans.

What follows, the portrayal of their demeaning actions, success and failure they face, the feeling of guilt and compromise, is the answer to the biggest question. Who wins the bet?

Direction: Vikram?s films have always been entertainers for the mass audiences. This movie is no exception to it. The significant truth that ?Happiness can?t be purchased? is clearly stated. The five different stories are interwoven and narrated convincingly well. The story shifts focus from one protagonist to another, but Vikram succeeds in holding on the attention and leave an impact in the minds of the audience.

Acting:
Aftab Shivdasani is the best of the lot. He?s natural, amusing and candid. His best scene is the one in which he cries as well as laughs, as he returns home with sad news of loosing his job and his wife greets him with happy news of being pregnant.

Dino Morea is a charm and drive personified, best suit for the stubborn and determined Rajeev.

Sameer Dattani is quite a looker. The young actor could have proved his talent in actually expression and not just a strong gaze.

Nauhid Cyrusi, too, manages quiet well to bring out the dual personality of the grayish Mona. Again, no much of expression, could have done better.

Anjori Alag makes her big screen debut with this film. The young lady could have done better with some more zing. Her body language is a bit too lethargic to convey the go-getter spirit of her character Ishita.

Anuj Sawhney is a complete natural and given his best. With not much of a role, he manages to leave a strong impact by the character he plays.

Rajat Bedi, Raj Zutshi, Koel Puri, Nikita Anand are competent and excellent in their respective roles.

Overall:
Positives:
The concept is penned and directed well. The sequences are real and one can identify oneself with it. Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee carries this message for the obsessively ambitious youth: happiness lies in the journey, not in reaching the destination, convincingly well.

Negatives:
After a while, Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee begins to run with dramatic background score, typically snappish dialogues and melodrama. Impact would have been better if few unnecessary melodramas were chopped of from the second half making it lengthy and diverting.

On the whole, Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee is almost a breakthrough. It?s strong subject and genre confines its outlook to a limited group of audience, especially youngsters. Casting of a better and popular actor would have given hike to the movie by attracting crowd with such a serious subject.
At box office, the film has chances to screen for many days by ?word of mouth? appraisal.

Rating: ★★½☆☆ (Interesting)
