Kidnap Review – Kidnap Movie Review

Kidnap has created a buzz for several reasons. Imraan Khan is back after his highly successful debut Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. The promos of Kidnap were sleek and stylish, Minissha Lamba in her all new sexy avatar and of course the bikini. A Sanjay Dutt movie after a long time is always something to look forward to. And lastly, the director is Sanjay Gadhvi, the man behind the super successful Dhoom movies. Drona was the only movie slated for an Eid release but with Kidnap being pre-poned, the movie has managed to steal all the limelight. But does it meet expectations?

Kidnap revolves mainly around two characters. One a man and the other a boy. Vikranth Raina (Sanjay Dutt) is one of the richest men in the world. He has a strained relationship with his wife and is living aboard seperately from the past several years. Sonia (Minissha Lamba) misses a father in her life and this often leads to arguements with her mom. On Christmas, Sonia is kidnapped by Kabir (Imraan Khan). The name of the kidnapper, the location and the reason is unknown!

Kidnap Review

Kidnap has the right ingredients for the audience that love masala flicks. A hot Minissha Lamba in skimpy clothes, an item number by Sophie Chaudhary in clothes which if reduced by little would leave nothing to the imagination, decent songs which are beautifully picturized, great action sequences. But its the script that lets the film down. The main motive behind the whole Kidnap, when revealed, is a complete turn off.

Kidnap suffers from a story thats hard to digest. Without giving the story away let me brief you on some of the scenes.

  • There is a sensual bath with loads of cleavage under a waterfall, which reminds us of Zeenat Aman, all this while the girl is held in hostage!
  • Vikrant Raina releases a crimininal locked up in jail. Raina manages to do so by burning down the jail kitchen and escaping in a fire brigader’s uniform.
  • In a chase sequence, Vikrant is in pursuit of Kabir who climbs buildings like a hero straight out of a superhero film. Vikrant is no less, he gives Kabir a good chase performing those unbelievable stunts.
  • Dont you think its a tad bit unrealistic for the visibly unfit father of a grown up daughter to be so athletic? Also, at times you can clearly notice the body double. Mind you, the exact same chase is one of the highlights of the movie and has been shot well.
  • The climax during the New Year eve too is very unrealistic. Not a single soul notices the gun in the Ice box nor while Vikrant pulls the trigger!

The chemistry between Imraan and Minissha is poor. Minissha infact shares a better chemistry with Sanjay Dutt in those limited scenes they share.

Sanjay Dutt sleep walks through his role. Imran Khan needs to work on his dialogue delivery. He’s fine in his much looked forward-to negative role. Minissha Lamba manages to distract with ample cleavage show, with limited scope for histrionics she does well. Vidya Malvade doesn’t suit her role.

Overall, Kidnap disappoints. If well-performed action sequences, skin show in abundance and great locales is what you wish to see, Kidnap is worth a watch. Else, wait for the DVD. At the boxoffice, the hype due to several reasons mentioned above, would ensure a good opening. The lower budget (20 crores) compared to most biggies and good opening could result in the cost being recovered by the end of Week 1.

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ Kidnap Review Verdict – Average!

Other Notes – Both Kidnap and Drona turned out to be disappointing. It will be interesting to see if Kidnap will succeed at the box-office. How the movie sustains on Monday after the intial 4 day weekend will be crucial. Check back in tomorrow for updates on the box-office collections of both Drona and Kidnap.

  • Indicine Team: U r right in your review, I saw the movie yesterday and it’s just an average movie with many flaws!! The biggest flaw which made me (pause) and just wanted to stop the movie running is Minnisha’s mother!! She is a young actress who looks around 30 or maximum 35 years old, she’s the heroine of the movie (Intehaa) with Ashmit Patel – I loved that movie – and one of the heroines of Chakde India, so was the director (stupid) to give her a role of a mother to a young girl who’s age is around 18 or19 years maybe?!! That’s is not convincing at all.. she was suppose to be her eldest sister, like her role in Inteha, she was Nuheed’s eldest sister but not a mother!! Actually the grany was suppose to be Minnisha’s mother.

And.. the movie.. what to say.. is similar to Sanjay Dutt’s (Zinda) in Zinda, John want to revenge, he kidnaps Sanjay also in the water, while he’s in the see for the purpose of revenge.. in this movie Imran – for the purpose of revenege too – kidnaps his daughter! Why the directors do some similar movies?!! And kidnapping a girl while she’s diving and make her unconsious!! Could this be possible and happens in the real life?!!

What a stupid director did this movie!! Imran kidnaps the girl and she’s wearing a swimming suit, and then we see her in some (sexy) outfits, every scenes she’s wearing 1/2 naked clothes!! kidnappers won’t buy these stuff for a hostage, they’d bring her a long shirt, any dress to wear but not what the director let Minnisha wear in the movie just to look.. sexy for the audience!!

Zinda was a better movie, a nice one and a convincing story except one scene in Zinda which I didn’t like ( the action scene) in the last quarter of the movie.

About Imran’s performance, he did well, better than his acting in JTYJN.

Overall.. it’s just a pastime movie,.. u r bored, got nothing to do .. watch it online or on a dvd.

  • LOVELY REVENGE THEME…BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE SHOWN IMRAN AND MINNISHA FALLING IN LOVE…SANJAY DUTT LOOKED EVERY BIT THE ARROGANT FATHER AND VIDYA MALVADE SURPRISES US WITH HER ROLE OF BEING MINNISHA’S MOTHER..IMRAN LOOKED CUTE AS USUAL AND MINNISHA LOOKED A BIT OLDER….OTHERWISE I WOULD SAY TO EVERY ONE TO GO 4 THE FILM..

  • nice movie
    everything ok
imran soooooooooooo hot and totally cute in his bad boy look
needed more suspense and a better endin like minnisha fallin in love with imran
should have kept the revenge a total secert until the end and a better revenge secert
    but over all good movie
    imran very hot

  • am i the only one who found it very ridiculous that they cast vidya as the mom and manisha as the daughter?! i just couldnt swallow that. manisha DID NOT look like a 18 year old… her face looked older than imraans….

that being said… i had more expectations from imraan… hes acting was a let down from jaane tu… but man.. he looked incredible! very handsome and sexy…. looking forward to seeing him in more movies and hoping he will live up to his initial acting expectations or suprass them…

watched drona and hari puttar… wht pure crap.. especailly the latter.. its as if the makers of the movie have no respect for their audience.. how can they produce such nonsense and live with themselves?!

the only decent movie so far i found is (relatively speaking) is C kompany….

  • Sonia: About Drona, I think u didn’t read my comments on this page, it’s not that the makers hv no respect for the audience, it’s just because they made it for kids ( it’s obvious from the trailer, and it was yr mistake that u watched it!) it’s a pure children movie, a fairytale, Just read my comments on this page.

And.. I was shocked today when I saw on Bollywood buzz website Minnish Lamba’s pcitures for Maxim India!! what a trashy actress she is, I couldn’t believe my eyes, when I saw her in pikini in Kidnap, I was disgusted, but the pikini she was wearing in the movie, the white one was (decent) comparing it to her vulgar photos on this magazine, so shamless woman! almost fully naked.
I liked her in Bachna Aeo Hasino, but I started hating her now, she isn’t a respected graceful actress, she’s just a trash, follows a bunch of trashy actresses e.g. Malika, Malaaika, Neha, Amrita, Riya Sin, all these junior actresses who’d do anything for fame and money!

  • Worth a one time watch i say. A movie which could have been a slick thriller botched because too much masala stuff thrown in. Beginning with miscasting of Malavade as Lambas mom. And absolutely ridiculous exposure of the heroines body; which kidnapper goes out and buys the clothes Minishha is made to wear as the kidnapee? Unless he is a perv and they take pains to show he is not. Imraan should have been given a darker nastier character; he comes across as almost sweet sometimes, the way he cooks for Minishha and offers her tea and even takes her request for a ‘bath’ seriously, absolute nonsense. Sunjay Dutt is adequate and even good in the last scene where he prays in front of the statue. Imraan does well with what he is given to do…has the makings of a fine actor and with his conventional good looks has all the trappings to end up a huge star actor. He did sound too educated and posh for a orphan who has spent years in jail. Malavade looks good and acts well. Her clothes unlike Minishhas are very stylish and good. Minissha acts well in some scenes and also manages to look sweet in a very few scenes, otherwise i would say she is one of the flaws of the movie, the way she is dressed and doesnt look 18. Rahul Dev is good too.

I think the only reason this movie will do any reasonable business is because of the curiousity value of Imraan after his first movie, and people who want to see Minishhas skin exposure. Too much expectations from Gadhvi has harmed this movie. Just as his indecisivness about what he is actually making, a masala potboiler or a sensible movie. Because some parts of the movie were very good. And the others horrendous.

Like I said, a one time watch. For those who are not too picky about unbelievable situations.

  • Sad to watch Imraan’s acting…………….dialouge were worst nd not well delivered………….
I’ve got frustrated completely………thanks for friends stop me for going to multiplex for it……..
    and Gadhvi’s creation is a complete failure…..
Double torture on Eid and Navaratri…….

  • ghanta…..
are bhai log aur gal frnd log kyun itna chila rahe ho
movie banane wale to apni paisa wasool kar chuke hain
abhi itna matha phoda phodi kyun re???????

  • A very poor script with plenty flaws. Minisha Lamba looks so very stupid. Imran’s new tanned look suits him. He did well but could have done better. His dialogue delivery needs improvement. Please Imran select your movies carefully. Sanju’s acting was ok. Very abrupt ending to the movie and follow ups not done to certain scenes which link the movie.

I expected better with the cast but the director………………….

  • I liked this movie! Imran Khan is soo cute!! The story is different and a bit funny! But its good! The song Mit jaye,(he looks very cute in here) Mausam and Meri ek ada are good! But in Mausam, not a very good video! The clothes are getting skimpier and skimpier!! Also sanjays kiss! Eurghhhhh! But I think Imran did a good job and overall the movie was good!

    From the UK!!!!

  • I’m watch this movie after impressed with Imran Khan’s performance in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na but the expectation was spoilt because Imran’s portion almost nothing if compred with Sanjay Dutt. Minissha Lamba did’n suit for the character and for Imran. The chase scene is quite good.Overall it’s a big disappointment for Imran’s fans…This film absolutely nothing if compared with Imran’s first film.Songs are listenable.Usual kidnapping story with usual revenge.Weak story and screenplay.Imran should not act in this film.Just big waste of time.

  • The movie is plain crap and rubbish. You don’t even have to watch it to say that. It’s clearly visible on the promos and soundtrack plus someone i know has seen it and she says it bad.
