President Pranab Mukherjee honoured actress Kangana Ranaut on Sunday at the 62nd National Film Awards ceremony here.
This is her second award with the first one being in the Best Supporting Actress category for “Fashion”.
“That was supporting actress and this is Best Actress. ‘Queen’ has also got another award. So, we will have a big celebration party in Mumbai,” she told reporters.
Dressed in a body-hugging gown in pastel shade with a long flowing cape, the actress looked chic as she completed her look with a bun and a dark lip colour.
The film which narrates a story of an inspirational girl-next-door who embarks on her honeymoon alone after her prospective husband backs off, also won the honour in Best Hindi film category.
Kangana portrays role of a simple girl named Rani. She was appreciated for the role from all quarters.
“I never expected ‘Queen’ to get recognition at this level (winning a National Film Award). We are very happy that the film was accepted on such a wide scale,” she said.
Actress Tripta Lakhanpal, who played role of Kangana’s grandmother in the film, was also present to cheer for the actress at the award ceremony.
Produced by Phantom Films and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, the film which was directed by Vikas Bahl also starred Rajkummar Rao and Lisa Haydon.
Kangana is now busy with her upcoming films “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” and “Katti Batti”. She has also bagged a biopic on late Indian screen icon Meena Kumari.

Wont be suprised if next year also she bags national award for the double role.
She did well in fashion but I (and I expect many others) never took notice of her until queen and now tanu weds manu returns. I think she’s established herself as the best actress from the current lot. Looks like her performance in tanu weds manu returns will be the best performance by an actress this year.
What happened to her film I love new year with sunny deol? It had good songs.
Hopefully she does more films like queen and Tanu Weds Manu 2. There’s a lack of such female-centric movies in bollywood which makes actresses do big films where they’re decorative pieces more than anything.
Good question @ Raaz But i want to tell you that I Love New Year has been shelved . After the failure of Singh Saab The Great Bhushan Kumar decided that this movie will not work and all the team cordially decided to shelve the movie . Kangana has improved a lot as an actress . Earlier she used to do only Psychotic roles such as Woh Lamhe, Gangster, Raaz : The Mystery Continues and Fashion . Critics bashed her saying she was monotonous and they where right . After the success of Queen people have accepted Kangana not only as a brilliant actress but also as a established and Bankable Heroine . Looking at the trailer of Tanu Weds Manu Returns it is looking like Kangana has delivered another knockout performance especially in that Haryanvi language . If all goes well she will once get a Filmfare Award for Best Actress next year . A proud achievement for any Indian Actor to receive the National Award . Kangana has got 2 National Awards in 9 years and that is a great achievement and something to be proud of !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kudos to Kangana but sad to still see her doing afew roles where she clearly looks disinterested like Chameleon Kaya in that awful X-Men parody Jadoo 3 where she knew the whole film was utter crap…! More script awareness needed n she will rule for yrs to come as ahe can clearly act when inspired to do so.

And you know what’s the most crying part is when perfornance like Mohan Bhargav(Swades) & Kabir Khan(Chak De India) are ignored and Saif is given for Him Tum.
And please never ever think that your Bhaijaan can ever come close for this award. THIS AWARD REQUIRES ACTING, not south Indian remake, item songs, over the top action, below the belt comedy.
