Kambakht Ishq Movie Review
Well, nothing has changed. Kambakht Ishq directed by Sabbir Khan is the same old, typical Akshay Kumar comedy flick. Expensive sets, 4 odd songs filled with babes from the west, a couple of great action sequences performed by the star himself, a super sexy co-star, funny one-liners and a story that completely lacks sense or logic.
So what’s the story? In short, a guy and a girl hate each other to the core but end up falling in love. Yes, that’s about it.
For those keen on the detailed storyline.. Viraj Shergill (Akshay Kumar) is one of the most sought-after Stuntmen in Hollywood. He believes woman are good for nothing, except sex. Simrita (Kareena Kapoor), an arrogant young lady doesn’t believe in love. The two meet at Viraj’s brother Lucky’s (Aftab Shivdasani) and Simrita’s best friend Kamini’s (Amrita Arora) wedding. Both oppose and the battle of sexes begins! But like most Bollywood movies, the two are destined to fall in love.. the weird manner in which they do and realize their mistake, forms the rest of the tale.
Review in short.. Sadly, the best part of Kambakth Ishq is its first 15 mins. Its starts off brilliantly, but falls flat after the church scene. Infact, the second half is so poor, I would rather prefer watching a Tashan instead! Or maybe even Chandni Chowk To China.. atleast the songs were better!
Have patience for a detailed review? Read on.. Kambakth Ishq has to be one of the most desperate attempts to make people laugh, atleast in recent memory. And out of all the so-called funny scenes, probably two are worth a laugh.
In one of the most stupid plots ever witnessed in an Akshay Kumar film, we have the leading lady (Kareena), a doctor, performing her first surgery on her male lead (Akshay), who is injured while performing a stunt. While operating she happens to leave her watch inside his stomach. The watch keeps playing “Om Mangalam” every hour, so loudly that it could put the best of audio speakers to shame. The doctor, worried of being sued, tries every trick in the book to get the watch out and even sleeps with him (or atleast she thinks so). Now, Akshay falls in love, so what does he do? He slips her into a bikini, takes her underwater and proposes.. What does Kareena do? Injects him out of his consciousness and performs a surgery to take the watch out. HECK! Couldn’t she do that much earlier? Okay its a mindless entertainer, but neither is it entertaining or funny!
By the time, the only decent song in the film ‘Kyun’ begins, the restlessness amongst the audience is clear. Some get up to leave, clearly disappointed.
The dialogues are cheap, music (Anu Malik) is pathetic, lyrics are horrible and the performances are no better. Akshay Kumar in yet another slapstick comic role has a bad outing yet again, he tries hard but rising above the script, he doesn’t! Kareena Kapoor in her bitchiest role ever, displays ample amount of skin but disappoints with her performance. Aftab Shivdasani is wasted and so is Kiron Kher. Javed Jaffrey has just about 3 scenes and 10 minutes of screen time. Amrita Arora has nothing to do, she looks great in those bikini’s though.
Coming to the Hollywood stars, the only actor who manages to impress is Sylvester Stallone, being a huge fan of the actor I enjoyed his short guest appearance. Denise Richards looked bad. Brendon Routh was wasted.
Overall, Kambakht Ishq is a lot of money wasted. It neither entertains nor does it have enough ‘laughs’ in store for the viewers. Skip this, watch New York instead!
At the box-office, the movie has released on more than 2000 screens. The first weekend should be huge. But for a big budget film like this, its first Monday will be the key.
Rating:

1 and a half stars

Dude, Sachin stop being so freaking retarded and stuck up. The last GOOD Akshay Kumar film was…errm…I can’t remember. Maybe, Hera Pheri, but remakes’re always a turnoff for me, so… Singh is King, Tashan, Chandni Chowk were PATHETIC! It’s really sad to see movies like Dasvidaniya, Delhi 6, Gulaal, Luck By Chance ignored and sh!t like this getting encouraged. Grow the ___ up.
Indicine, I don’t know whether you’ve given no-brainers high scores in the past, so I won’t comment on that, but I’m glad you thought this one deserved only 1.5 stars. The promos were more than enough to suggest that. There’s a line in the title song that goes like ‘Main kachchi kaliyon ka deewana hun’ or something. The film indistry’s gotta grow up and realize that comedy doesn’t have to necessarily be crass or loud or over-the-top or all together.
P.S Taran Adarsh is a joker, true.

Well, I as an individual, like Akshay…But the movies he has been doing for last one year or so,those are pathetic..But the matter of the fact is that those are the ones that has given him a chnc to be no. ! in B’town..AND also let me tell u guys that I hate srk and the typical movies of him..Neways for this movie I wud rather give Akki 3.5 out of 5 but for this very movie my review wud be .5 out of 5 (same ratings go for RNBDJ,CC2C,Welcome,Golmaal returns – these were all craps..)
Atleast now we shud try to make comedy flicks which wud either have funny bones (as well as some logic in it – like Jhankar Beats, Bheja Fry) or which doesn’t have any vulgarity in it… And KI lacks in both way

@sachin
“Now even Hera Pheri, Phir Hera Pheri, Singh is Kinng are typical Akshay Kumar movie and they are entertaining and that is what we want ENTERTAINEMNT, I am sure no one goes to watch a logical or classic movie if Akshay Kumar is in the lead or no one goes to watch a typical Bollywood pot-boiler if Aamir Khan is in lead(Though Gajhini is his worst movie till date and not only a remake of South Indian movie by same title but a copycat of hollywood sensation “Momento”).
If Aamir Khan movies are about quality then Akshay Kumar movies are about entertainment…………”
I totally disagree with u..Hera Pheri was not a typical Akki movie..It was an awesome one and may be it belongs to a league of its own..And SIK was again another headache to Indian cinema..
And for Ghajini – i agree with u that it’s one of the worst movies of Amir.BUT it was not a copycat of “Memento” man…First watch the movie and then you will understand ur mistake..U can’t comapre a CHRISTOPHER NOLAN movie with a Bollywood or south movie..CHRIS rocks…

Review, i guess its good in first half second half takes a emotional turn…5-6/10
i never enter the hall to always b treated by movies as good as “A Wednesday”
and many of bollywood flicks r low on content, if u liked Salaam Namaste ter r chances that u will like tis one…
My take you will not be disappointed but don’t expect it to b masterpiece…

I agree with this review partly..It was a waste of money….Watch at home instead with sm bunch of loser friends who like such maaaaal movies….Akshay is getn real boring…again hes doin over acting..like he did in chandni chowk..Hes good at acting in comedy films..but he was better in Singh is King,Hera pheri, namastey london…he should try for such movies and not slap stick movies….Kareena is okay…nothin special as such…NO! she does not even come closer to what she did in jab we met…..shes the same old kareena now…..The holly actors r not that great …sylvestor is cool though..but again nothin to hu-ha about……Rest cast acting is boring….n yea the story is maha crapy….i agree though that the movie had not even ended n people were moving out of the theatre including me. i dint like the film at all..Its again chandni chowk to china…maybe a lil half inch better….

Well yea i do agree with your review >< Almost all the critics panned the film….imo it was really boring…the only critic who praised the film is taran and btw indicine if the film manages decent collections its a hit right?and b.o update on KI was rocking and taran even wrote that “The audience word is very positive”

Was in a really really bad mood, had a fight with my boyfriend (well he refuses to watch bollywood cinema) and I desperately wanted to see Kambhakt Ishq. Anyway, I went with my friends, after a fight with him, but once in, I definitely forgot our nasty fight. I didn’t laugh this much even in Garam Masala or Golmal.. Kambhakt Ishq, great film what was amazing for me the brilliant cameo by Stallone. I want Stallone to now shift base to bollywood.

hehehe …..this guy sachin rocki is indeed a retarded fan of akshay …..i agree wid the indicine team ……the movie is yet another akshay kumar time pass flick….wid nothing to watch ……and yeah , kareen cud be the next porn star …….
akshay needs to think before signing any new movie……
by the way , rab ne bana di jodi was a nice movie , of course u wont like it if u are an srk hater ….and u know what , who r the haters ….the haters r those morons who hate a guy just becoz they think that the particular guy is the best …..and yeah , srk is the best ……aamir is gud too …..but akshay is losing his reputation these days
Kalyan: (July 3, 2009 at 7:58 pm)
Though the critics panned the film the aam junta aka the people who goes to film are giving positive reviews for the film this is going to be a sure shot hit
Krishna: (July 3, 2009 at 8:08 pm)
Akshya sucks…I have watched almost all his movies and they have a same taste..he should try harder to do better comedy…..Even sugar starts tasting bitter if ate a lot..

Some people clearly don’t understand the difference between quality “entertainment” (Aamir Khan – most of his movies, anyway) and slapstick comedy “entertainment” (Most of Akshay’s movies nowadays).
Quality entertainment extends to comedy – see movies like Moonstruck, Ang Lee’s Sense & Sensibility, Padosan etc. Slapstick comedy doesn’t always mean entertainment for everyone. Learn the difference, folks. ;)
My holier-than-thou fit aside, I really appreciate the review. I got interested a bit into the movie after hearing about the quote-unquote “caustic wit” of Kareena’s charactter and hoped against hope for a mildly intelligent comedy. The premise you described (of her leaving her watch inside) is absolutely screwed up and I think my money can be better spent.
