Jolly LLB 2 remained steady on Wednesday at the box office, showing a drop of 20% from Monday – which is a fairly good hold considering the fact that the film showed excellent growth on Valentine’s Day (Tuesday).
The Akshay Kumar starrer is heading towards lifetime business of over 100 crore and it will be the actor’s fourth consecutive 100 crore grosser.
Return to official figures: We don’t usually succumb to pressure, but it’s been relentless in the last few days. Comments section, email, social media.. every mode of communication has been used to point out that the higher number (i.e the producer figure) is what readers wants. The arguments have been silly and absurd. The same people who praised the article during Kaabil and Raees, are the ones who now want producer figures because it no longer suits them. And over the last few days, we realised that going forward it’s going to be the same with other films as well. It’s easier for us too, because the effort that goes into fetching figures on a daily basis, quite honestly, isn’t worth it. It also helps us keep the credibility of our FBO and LBO intact, we can’t be quoting our own figures and justifying our own predictions. We can also now do a comparison between Housefull 3, Rustom and Jolly LLB 2 without adjusting the figures of the older films – because uniformity in number, we believe, is very important.
The solution: Quoting official figures does not mean we will be sticking to the producer figures for all films. The ‘euphoria’ around box office numbers is usually in the first 1-2 weeks of its run and we do understand that fans want to see their favourite actors putting up big numbers at the box office. But when the actual numbers from all centres do come in (usually at the end of Week 1 / weekly), if there is a big variation (upwards of 5%) we will be adjusting the lifetime totals and the verdicts too. Raees, Kaabil, Krrish 3, Shivaay.. just to name a few will be adjusted and updated. This is not just to make the numbers and verdicts more credible – but also to make our other features like Top 15 actors in the industry etc, fair and equal to all actors in the industry.

Just afew months ago my 6 yr old daughter cried our house down bcoz she told us Santa Clause does exist n hence she would be upset if Santa didnt bring her lots n lots of presents… but I kept telling my wife lets not ‘cave in’ n maintain a united front but my daughters daily persistance broke our unity n my wife then convinced me to reassure her that Santa does exist n he does live her n he will bring her lots n lots of presents….! @ indicine – imo this could lead to more problem for you in future when you give produce fig for some movies & a lesser fig for(most probably filmcraft) others which would create the illusion of biasedness(even if you may not be) in the eyes of some people. imo its better if you give both producer fig & trade fig for all movies. that way there wont be any confusion & blind fans could choose produce fig & the sensible fans know the actuals are always closer to trade fig.
this will also openly expose the inflation when the difference is huge.

@indicine I still do not agree with you on this. You are making it worse. Using producer figures for some and your own figures for some will make you sound bias.
If you notice Kaabil, Raees, PRDP, Shivaay, Krishh – all big and wide releases when they released. Trade has been good at predicting/estimating numbers for smaller releases. But when the number of screens were more than ever, Trade has been wrong. Also note, that when there is a clash big films take away theatres of regional films. So trade does not include these screens during their estimates.
Based on the pattern, the next so-called “inflated” figure will be one or more of these films.. Tubelight, SRK-Imtiaz film, Tiger Zinda Hai, Golmaal Again, 2.0, Baahubali 2… Not because they will inflate figures, but because trade will again fail in their estimates. and then the blame would be on producers that they inflated figures. These films will have the widest release.
Raees + Kaabil released on 5800 screens.. Jolly LLB2 released on 3400 screens. For a film with 3400 screens trade analysts provide approximate figures. Some of them go horribly wrong even here. So how can you expect the Trade Analysts to predict for 5800 screens and divide them in 2 films accurately? They go wrong and blame it on producers.
You and other TA’s have been around for 10 years or so. But the people producing films have been here for 25 years or more. So take this advise and don’t get influenced by other TA’s. Stick to producer figures.
I believe you should stick to producer figures and do what you were doing good. Coz the current strategy of yours will again go horribly wrong and criticized for next big film as well.
