Jodha Akbar Box Office Collections

Posted by: Indicine Team | February 17th, 2008 |  Email This Post Email This Post

Jodha Akbar opened slowly at the Indian Box-office, largely due to the fact that the epic love story had a restricted release at multiplexes across the country, due to disputes between the producers of the movie and multiplex owners.

Saturday, the disputes were settled and the Hrithik Roshan - Aishwarya Rai starrer released all over. The audience response to the movie was very positive and so were the critic reviews which resulted in excellent business for the movie. According to Box Office India, the collections on Saturday were almost double compared to Friday.

The movie is expected to do business worth 16 - 17 crores during the weekend, which is great for a movie of this genre. Remember a historical has never worked in a long time. Even Aamir Khan with Mangal Pandey failed and so did Shahrukh Khan with Asoka.

Can Hrithik do what SRK and Aamir couldn’t? Lets wait and watch!

  14. sajith fakhruddin

well its a MUST WATCH movie…Ashothosh gowariker once again proved to be one of the best director in the indian cinema…performance of Hrithik Roshan was superb…cant imagine any actor in that role..Aishwarya wow very very gorgeous…she looks too good in traditional dress than the modern…AR Rahman proved his magic again…songs like azeem o shahanshah, jashn bahara, kwaji,in lamhon, and manmohana all 5 songs were composed very brilliantly as per the circumstances of the period movie..vocals of javed ali(jshn bahara) really heart touching one…choeography, art direction, photography, cosumes have done brilliant job…Back ground score of AR Rahman were really fantastic again…hilighted scenes…war sequence, hrithik with elephant taming, choreography of song azeem o shahanshah and lot more…Over all the movie supposed to be biggest blockbuster of 2008…no doubt about it.

  15. nadiim

ya i saw the movie twice since it was released. that is on the first day first show and today, i found the film exceptional because i never saw a film like this. im not hritikh fan but i can say that it is his best perfomance till now.the combats, clothes, decor, jewels… everything was good. this movie will surely work for the first week but it might drop drastically in the second weak due of its lenght.it is 3.40 mins….but there is a feeling in me that tell me the film will be a blockbuster and as for the rajputs manifesting, it was already said it is a fiction not real history ok…

  16. nadiim

in this movie , a.rahman music was not so superb as guru, swades, lagaan. except for azemm o…. and in lamho ko

  17. sarayu

its a movie whic has 2 b watched by all especilly younger genraitons 2 gt 2 knw r culture n hrithik is at best best of performance weder its a fight or romance he jus gives his 100% ….. “HRITHIK RULES” V LUV HIM…..

  18. Amu

Jodhaa-Akbar is one of the best movies i have seen in the recent times. Hrithik and ash rocked in the movie. never appreciated ash much before, but her acting was so flwless in the movie. one cant help falling in love with her. and its no only the scenes with hrithik and ash but every frame of the movie was exceptionally shot. already seen the movie three times and every time was transformed into a world i never knew. Kudos to ashutosh for his ability to do that. A.R. Rehman again proved that he is THE MASTER. The brilliant part of his music was it blended so delicately into the movie. My favourite is “man-Moohana”. What a creation……AMAZING and Simply SUPERB… A must watch for any1 who appreciates good movie.Dont know and dont care if gets to oscars or not. It has touched thy heart so deeply. It has been so much pleasure watching the movie…I JUST LOVE THE MOVIE. amazing work …ashutosh

  19. anup

the film is good, just good.
it is not great, exceptional or fantastic.
the first half of the film makes u a little sleepy, but u wake up whenever ash and hrithik are together. they complement each other exceptionally well. what makes the film noteworthy is that it has a really superb second half. from hrithik and ash’s sword fight to the choreography of the song azeemu- shah- shehenshah and of course the one on one in the end with hrithik and his enemy.
overall great effort from everyone and as for the ratings i would give this movie 3 and a half out of 5.

  20. Ramesh

    SIMPLY AWESOME!!!

  21. samir

Hrithik Roshtan is the best gread job

  22. sidharth

best movie in its genre in recent times. Also, great performnces and nearly authenic. Hats off to Asu, Hrithik, Ash, Rahman and also the guy who plays Bairam Khan.!

  23. sutanu

Awesome and amazing. Must see for one and all!

  24. mozaffar

well, d movie was fine but this movie really didnt live upto our expectations.ashutosh is disappointing this time.
we even now remember lagaan and swadesh but J-A is easily forgettable.
actually,no film on akbar(the gretest ruler of all time)could ever be made successfully except MUGHALEAZAM coz that was a masterpiece.
but i think coz of fantastic chemistry between ash and hrithik.this movie will at least end as an average grosser.

  25. Renitha

JODHA AKBAR WAS A SYMBOL OF LOVE IN AN ERA WHERE ITS DIFFICULT TO GET ALL THE MUTUAL RESPECT, ESP WHEN WOMEN NEVER OPENED UP THEIR VIEWS , THOUGHTS & FEELINGS !

HRITHIK IS A VERSTILE TALENT , A BLESSING FOR THE BOLLYWOOD INDUSTRY AND ASH , WITH HER NOBLE & HUMBLE APPEAL FOR A TYPICAL INDIAN WOMEN , HAS SHOWN THE TRUENESS AND HUMILITY OF THE WOMEN IN THOSE DAYS !

STARTING FROM HEAD TO FOOT …… FROM THE MAKING TO STARRING , FROM JEWELLERY TO OUR TRADITIONAL CLOTHING, FROM RELIGIOUS BELIEFS TO THE PRIDE OF INDIAN KINGDOMS ETC …..ALL WERE CLASSIC AND UPTO MARK !

A MASTERPIECE PRESENTATION AND A MOVIE TO CHERISH IN A LIFETIME FOR INDIAN CINEMAS….!!!!!

  26. Bablu

This is an intresting movie, Again superb performance by “HRITHIK”……..i cant explain in word …..bas lage raho bhai…………….. J-A is a great movie to watch………….

  27. mani

i loved the movie. it is a must must watch movie atleast for all of them who loved once .CONGRATULATIONS to the entire cast because every one did a great starting from the animals , dancers , designers and none other than A.R.RAHMAN . lovely songs. i saw twice till now and as soon as i get an off i will go to watch it again. GREAT, LOVELY, AMAZING , BEAUTIFUL , FABULOUS , OUTSTANDING , SUBHANALLAH” SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE—— same goes for this heart touching love story , opened slowly at the box office but will definitely achieve great heights INSHALLAH”

  28. Nitin Sharma

I selute to govarikar effort which start from sui se lekar jahanj tak. its a great movie where all things i. e. costumes, language of mugals & Rajputs, religion, fighting, way of emperor & culture. after seeing movie we can realize ashutosh’s efforts. Hritik Roshan is a fantastic & he did full justis with the roll.
must see by the whole Indian so that they cant know about akbar that why he was called Great.

  35. himadri nayak

aesthetically excellent, visually perfect, musically a dream and after all its a Ashutosh’ movie……..but hey whre are the gray shades of Akbar? He was great but not flawless………..and yes where is Din-e-elahi? ………BUT STILL I WILL SEE IT AGAIN.

  36. ankit tyagi

hi friends,if u r in love with someone then u must go to watch this movie.

  37. Wally

It was very sloe´w movie and boring, Ashutosh should have made it a bit more go in the film, soo pity.
    Wally

  38. gaurav

Simply amazing and appealing movie…………………It leaves a mark on you………………….and one tends to watch it again and again…………………….Aish at her best………………………..Great direction………………jazzy music……………..awesome choreography and cinematography……………………I think the only weak points were the subcast and the movie length,,,,,,,,,,,,,,which might prevent it from a blockbuster………

  39. SULTAN

ITS SO BORING I DONT KNOW Y U PEOPLE SAYING
ITS SIMPLY BREATHTAKING BLAH BLAH BALAH
I HAVE JUST WATCH THESE MOVIE COS OF U PEOPLE

everybody put thier best work/performance in this mindblowing movie…………Specially my big brother “HRITHIK” !!!!!!!!!!!! hey bro i m going to see it again n again………………………

  46. Tara

What is wrong with you people? Jodha Akbar was one of the most boring movies I have seen recently. Not only this movie is historically inaccurate, it is boooooring and long and tedious for no reson. Hritik and Aishwarya did well. The settings are ok, but it could have been better (definitely not in par with a hollywood movie). Please do not compare this mediocre movie to hollywood classics… Yes, you can compare Tare Zameer par and Chak De - those two movies are like any other hoolywood movie, but not Jodha Akbar. This movie is way too long..may be someone can edit this movie and make it better.

  47. Rakesh

I hated every minute of this terrible movie. The director showed Rajputs as conspiring against Akbar. Just give me a break! Hello, Akbar is the invader and Rajputs are trying to protect their homeland! It is a disgrace that this guy tried to portray Rajputs as cowardly villans. Shame on you people for praising this stupid movie. Even if you ignore all all that stuff, Jodha Akbar is still a badly made movie. Plain Boring and Stupid.

  48. Sara

I saw the comments on this website and went to watch the movie…..oh my god….it is one of the worst movies ever…..what romance are you taking about????? zzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzz…i slept thro’ the movie…………wake up all u boring people……….get a life………..this movie sucks……go and watch Sunday instead….it is a fun movie……..or watch tare zameen par if you want to watch a well made movie………..not this boring zzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzz jodha akbar……..zzzzzzzz. i think all these good comments are written by the makers jodha akbar!

  49. Vipin

save ur money and 4 hours…don’t watch this movie…its one of the worst movies ever

  50. Salman

    crazy ppl on this website,
what is so mind blowing abt this movie? its a boring, silly so called romance movie gift wrapped in some fake historical package…its pathetic, its slow, its boring…. ppl who think this is a mastepiece should get a member ship to some video video store andwatch some hollywood movies…. ppl who think this the best romace ever, must find a partner to experience real romance….don’t waste ur money on J-A

  51. ara

JA sucks. i got a headache.

  52. Ramesh

Absolute let down….dragging and slow stuff and conveys nothing. Waste of time and money!!

  53. Janaki

excellent performence by hrithick and ash. it is a must watch movie. The direction, story, photography, fight scenes, romance and the the chemistry between ash and hrithick are simply excellent esspecially the music. Hats of to hrithick , ARR , Ash and ashutosh govarikar. It is the outstanding and the best film in the bollywood industry.

  54. sutanu

only those guys who love nonsensical david dhawan comnedies and cumb thrillers have got their sensibiltities too blunted to appreciate movies like JA and swadesh. I am sure u guys didnt like TZP either.

  55. sutanu

    sorry! I meant dumb!

  56. Fidelis

This is one well made movie. Its not like the typical masala (Om Shanti Om) type movie. These are the types of movies that are already making Indian Cinema move ahead. Yes its long, but the subject cannot be compressed futher. Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments were not short movies for the same reason.

Great JOB Ashitosh and great acting by Hritick.

  57. p

I think the movie is really very good. Its strange that ppl who hav said that the movie is not gud jus had one reason of it being boring and have no actual reasons as to y its not gud……i think its a well crafted movie wit good performance and is a must watch to see how 1500’s in india felt like…..and the mughal period….

  58. Akshay

I have already watched it TWICE in the first 3 days. I am PROUD to see the indian cinema moving ahead. The movie is EXCEPTIONAL. The Best Bollywood movie for the last 25 years. HRITIK REALLLY DOES DESERVE AN AWARD AND ALSO ASHUTOSH. There is much hard work behind this movie. I WAS REALLY SATISFIED TO SEE SUCH PROGRESS IN INDIAN CINEMA. THE BATTLE SCENES WERE REALLY WELL MADE AND THE LOVE STORY WAS CAPTIVATING. RATING: 9.5 / 10.

  59. SUHIT

THOSE WHO R SAYIN THAT THE MOVIE IS BORIN AND U SHD GO AND WATCH SUNDAY OR SOME OTHER MASALA STUFF….FIRST TELL ME WAT DID U EXPECT…U THOGHT THAT AKBAR WLL DO A EK PAL KA JEENA OR WAT?? GUYS TIS IS A HISTORICAL MOVIE…IN ITS GENRE ITS GREAT…PERFOMANCES EXCELLENT…WATCH IT

  60. Saquib

A great epic love story but more battles and wars should have been included. The scene when Jodha cooked with her own hands for Akbar has taken a long time and all the things were time wasting and rubbish including a lot of love scenes.

  61. sachin

outstanding performance by Hrithik….. he should get chance in hollywood…..he is no doubt the best actor in the world…….this man is the next big thing in bollywood….after Big B….

  62. Anitha

Its a masterpiece no doubt. Must watch for ppl who love historic settings and true romantics. The performances by the lead pair, their hair-rasiing chemistry, direction, attention to detail, its simply splendid and spectacular. Any word in english dictionary falls short to describe the movie. Have watched it thrice and wont mind watching again. It transforms u into a different world, into the historic era. History is amazingly matched with fiction. Kudos to Ashutosh Gawarikar, he rocks. Was never a Hritik fan, but u cant help but fall in love watching him in this movie.. His dialogue delivery, body language, expressions is worth applauding. Ash never looked better than this except for Hum dil de chuke sanam. Her best performance till date. Every scene thrilled me, mesmerized me immensely and gave me goosebumps. Its simply majestic and spectacular. If u havent watched it u r missing something. If ppl who cannot appreciate this movie, they dont really have a taste in movies..!!

  63. Dania

Pple who are amused by mindless n childish comedies only can’t b expected 2 appreciate JA

  64. Dania

It was too superb n no one can bring the dignity, poise n gallor to that role of Akbar the way Hrithik did. Its a shame that statues of substancial artists like him n Aamir Khan are not yet in Madam Tussauds! Ashutosh now needs 2 remake Anarkali n Taj Mahal using same cast. The song Maanmohana should have been sung by Lata. That would have made an even better impact. Overally the movie was such a delight I want to watch it again n again!

  65. crazzy

Lolzz somebopdy said sunday is much better then JA, that tell the story about that person’s taste, thank god thats there are not enough muppits around in here otherwise sunday would have been a ht.
Jodha akbar, f somebody has a real taste, an idea howit works in that period would certainly like the movie, each and every part is made with lot f efforts keeping in mind the actuallity f 15th centuary! people who have a week knowledge f history..will no doubt raise their eyebrows…bt if u have any sort f idea about history…then itsss really an awesome breath taking movie….i jus feel like that its the best performance f hrithick ever!!
u people dont know how its the pain in creating war scenes! still ashu did a brilliant job…awesome awesome awesome movie….wish there cud banother part.

  66. Aisha

JA - A great movie! Especially Hritik - his acting WAS great. The scenes and scenery were absolutely breath-taking. A classic, epic romance. LOVE IT.

  67. saurabh

    really movie is great, awesome….!!!
hrithik awesome, aish too beautiful and ashutosh best….!!

  68. SHLIYA

MAN!!!!!!!!HOW CAN ANY1 NOT LIKE DIS MOVIE……………..ITZ MAGICAL………I’M ONLY 17 AND HAVE NUTHIG TO DO WITH DIS FILM…….BUT I STILL LOVE,LOVE,LOVE,LOVE IT….IT IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE IN BOLLYWOOD…….EXCELLENT JOB ASH,ASU…….. LOVE U HRITHIK

ie all what i hav to say.

  70. SAMBIT

TWICE ALREADY .BUT STILL DYING 2 SEE THE MUGHAL-E-AWESOME 1 ANOTHER TIME….
    HRITHIK ROSHAN…..SHAHENSHAH-E-BOLLYWOOD……….HATS OFF!!!

  71. mayank johari

  72. dipesh

this is the best movie ever a cinematic genius.all related to the movie r at their best hrithik and ash sizzle the screen.hope that more and more people appreciate such great movies .go watch it without any backdrop in ur mind and u will love it.

  73. Adi

Jodha Akbar, maybe historically wrong. But the acting is ten out of ten. He is a King and yes he has to envade other parts of India to reunite them according to one common goal. and that is for India to be the number one country in the world. According to historians India was the world’s best and richest place under Akbar’s rule. So bush learn to love with no religious boundaries, and see what your nation can do.

The way Ash and Hrithik act together work is better then any other bollywood couple at the moment.
Music is brilliant, and gives a universal message of how love has no boundaries, no matter creed colour or caste. Also how wives are to be given true respect.

And the dual between Hrithik and Ash is way cool.

So go see it only you can see whether you love it or hate, and Rajupts if you really are so upset you should not take other peoples freedom of speach. Now do all us Upites have to go to delhi to watch this film.

    Idiotic polictical people

  74. Jai Kishan

Jodha Akbar is a well directed and well acted movie which lets us to know many points to which there was a misbelief among many people. It is one of the most stupendous film I had seen in recent times. Heads off to Mr Rehman for giving mind blowing music in the film. The direction by Ashutosh Gowarikar was brilliant. The acting performances was good by everyone in the movie but I think the couple who steal the show were Hrithik and Aish, they were awesome in the movie. Aish was looking damn beautiful and Hrithik was just wow. A must watch movie. Full points to Jodha Akbar.

  75. Adi

SRK, recently made a remark in the filmfare awards that JA was anice film but a bit too long. The guy who played king asoka should know how long these films can be.

Just cos his Asoka flopped even though a good film there is no need for Mr.Ugly Khan’s floppy remarks. Just cos hes on his way out, he has to secumb to such remarks. SRK will never get a role so jealousy sets in and good news then bans of the films have been taken off. Horrah. And all the people who found this film boring must think Welcome is an oscar winner. Uff ho!

  76. Eezat

I was reading the Filmfare Awards review 2007-2008 and came across this very interesting, very insightful comment and I commend Dr Patel for his intellectual manner of putting the truth out there. I am posting it here because I feel it deserves the right kind of exposure. And because he did mention something about Jodha Akbar! The 53rd Filmfare awards was definitely a shame to watch.
Ps: Jodha Akbar was a gem, and a much awaited one. It was like a fresh breath, a break from all the nonsensical so-called “comedies” that have infiltrated the Bollywood scene with a vengence. Hrithik’s acting was A*-class!! He’s just too good an actor. The whole movie gave new meaning to “a wholesome cinematic experience”

Posted comment by Dr R C Patel

“The Filmfare Awards 2008 ceremony was well set up, the stars were well dressed for a change and the stage was not as gaudy as it has been over the past few years. Nevertheless, I feel, via this ceremony Bollywood has hit an all-time low. An industry that boasts of geniuses such as Javed Aktar, Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle etc, an industry which was so respected and of which I was in so much awe, has now become a stage for cheap theatrics and open cattiness and downright nastiness. Consider the following:
    1. Put yourself in Ram Gopal Varma’s shoes when Ramesh Sippy was openly presented with a bravery award for being brave enough to watch Ram Gopal Varma’s Aag. So Aag was a disaster, but does that mean that previous wonderful works such as Sarkar, should be forgotten and a senior peer such as Ram Gopal Varma should be made fun of in this manner?
    2. Put yourself in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s shoes for being given the “Come-back” Award since Eklavya came back from the Oscars unrecognised. Therefore beautiful films such as 1942 A Love Story, the Munna Bhai series were worthless? At the Oscars even films like Mother India and Lagaan did not win so were Mehboob Khan and Amir Khan figures of ridicule?
    3. Put yourself in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s shoes. The fun poked at Sawaariya by SRK & SAK was vulgar and downright insulting to such a great filmmaker whose works such as Khamoshi and Black have created film history. You could see that even seniors such as Jeetendra and others sitting in the audience were looking less than amused at this insensitive commentary.
Sure, SRK & SAK covered this up as being part of the humour of the evening but surely such jokes which are at the expense of seniors who have produced wonderful works for our industry, are in VERY POOR TASTE!! Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Has SRK forgotten the awful skeleton in his closet whose name is Paheli?
Whenever the talent of Bollywood stars is considered one always wants to know how many filmfare awards they have won. This means these awards have evolved as a prestigious body by which a performer’s worthiness is measured, so how could such a prestigious body throw aways its cloaks of dignity and responsibility and allow SRK and SAK to carry on with their histtronics and cattiness over most of the function? Truly, I felt ashamed to be an Indian on this particular evening.
    Moreover,
    4. Can we put our hands on our hearts, keep God as our witness and say that SRK’s performance in Chak De India was better than Abhishek’s performance in Guru and Darsheel’s in Taare Zameen Par? Yet SRK carried away the award.
    5. In 2007, the finale award was for Best Film (as it should be) but this year and in all the years in the past that SRK has won, the finale award has been for Best Actor. Why? Why this discrepancy?
    6. Tabu was not even nominated for Best Actress for her wonderful work in Cheeni Kum. However, the critics declared her to be their Best Actress choice. Can we put our hands on our hearts, keep God as our witness and say that Rani Mukherjee was more deserving of a nomination for Lagaa Chunri Mein Daag, than Tabu?
    7. No nominations for Amitabh Bachchan? Eklavya, Cheeni Kum were not as good or even better than Akshay Kumar’s Namaste London? And yet the latter was nominated. No nominations for Jaya Bachchan for Lagaa Chunri Mein Daag?
Nominations and awards MUST be based on MERIT if they are to remain worthwhile. If Amitabh Bachchan did not invite Bollywood industry people to his son’s wedding, that is a PERSONAL issue so how could filmfare deliberately overlook his nomination as well as commission SRK and SAK to come up with a whole skit on stage just so that this issue of not being invited could be driven home?
8.Consistency was missing. Awards for performances in negative and comic roles were just left out with no explanation.

As you all can see I am very passionate about this issue. Truly, this year’s Filmfare Award Ceremony was appalling to say the least. Why doesnt filmfare just invite SRK and his family next year and give him all the awards? After all, we certainly dont want to hear catty comments about the wonderful Jodha Akbar, the excellent Hrithik Roshan and the very dedicated and hardworking Ashutosh Gowarikar, next year.
When one has had the good fortune to become a superstar, one should show gratitude to God by being humble, respecting senior members of the industry, and acknowledging the fact that one is far from perfect and has a lot to learn from one’s peers.
Also Filmfare should be careful about nominations and ensure awards are judged on merit. The masters of ceremony should be dignified and respectful as should the dance performances be. A minute look at how the Oscars are conducted would greatly help.”

I absolutely concur, Dr. Patel. Absolutely.

yap … jodhaa akbar sucks … hey you filmy bollywood guys, dont distort historical facts: you show Bhagat Singh engaged to a girl, and we know he was a Bachelor; you show Subhash flirting with a German lady and there’s no mention elsewhere, you show Mangal Pandey with a prostitute ..how sick can you get?? When Americans make a movie about Kennedy or Lincoln or any of their war hero, do they show them in bad light?? Now you show a gift wrapped pair of Azeem-O- Crap-Shahenshaah Akbar with Jodhaa (and that too you guys are not sure ..)..and that too a fairy tale?? Hina Kunwari was forcefully abducted by villian emperor Akbar, as one of his 400 legal wives …. and you call it romance?? I bet Akbar was the inventer of Mujraas and Tawaaif kaa kothhaa … the Din-E-Laahi movement by him was to dilute the religious spirit of Hindus Muslims and Christians ..i think he asa pagan by heart … accepting everything and doing his own crap…
But crazy public all over ..will watch Jodhaa-Akbar …. a spoiled fantasy ..shrouded with the bloods and skulls of thousands of countrymen who fought to remove invaders so that their temples could be secure, their wives and children could be secure, and yes, their Dharma could be secure …
Jallaludin ‘Jallaad’ Akbar still exists in the minds of an average Muslim in India, and stupid Hindus are falling prey…

    Jaaney kyaa hogaa ab???

    hi amar,
you are absolutely correct. there is no doubt about that if you see this three hour long “master piece” as a purely documentary or projection of real history in celluloid then alas it is fake. but hey, it is not a thing to teach people the history, which is I think is a job of universities or documentaries. it is purely an artwork based on some novel whose characters’ names are “unfortunately”(?) “akbar” and “jodha”. cinema some times tell us the the real story but also sometimes it raise our bar of imagination. ……..and again if you want to portray a real historical personality then you must not be shy to portray the person as human being.if you forget it then you are worshiping ,which is a completely different art…….I don’t think The stature of Subhash Bose decay if somebody imagines on the basis of some debatable information, that once he married. if you do that then you are not showing respect to many more of those married legends.
    Thanks for this topic.

    hello himadri,

you mistake me … i don’t consider any hero or any character by ideal … but i consider by the role he portrays. i know characters also have flaws - thats normal. i also know cinema will not go by history alone: gowariker himself says his film is 70% imagination - i understand.

but what i’m against is misrepresentation even in the name of Cinema. Can cinema portray Ravan as a Hero and Ram as a villian??: i bet after watching jodha-akbar, my 10 yr old nephew’s gonna google on Jodhaa and this chap Akbar. And he did … and he asked me, well, this Akbar’s not a good person, how comes the movie shows him as a good emperor??

cinema has an influence … u cant watch just for the fun of it ..Akbar was REAL and yes he married and prostituted many Rajput princesses … he had over 4,000 wives …. thats like 1 everyday for continuous 11 yrs!!!! Is such a person capable of portraying Romance?

Entertainment dosent mean showing anything for the sake of it. Gowariker should have gone for a title like Jodhaa- Afzal or Champa-Akbar … and would have told pple that the movie is 100% fiction …

Prijviraj-Samyogita, I would understand. Even Laila-Majnu and Heer-Ranjha, I’d not deny their love … even Salim and Anarkali ..thats OK. But the marriage btw Akbar and Jodhaa (aka Hina Kunwari) was due to a forced alliance btw statesman, abd there is no proof the love truimphed …

The Hindu King Hemchandra Vikramdhitya (after who the New year is named) is portrayed in bad taste like an invader to the Delhi throne, as if Hindu King is invader and the Moghul the rightful owner …

Gowarikers movie is not 100% fiction … of course there is a conclusion to this movie … that Jallaludin ‘JALLAD’ Akbar was one of the best rulers of India, which is utter bullshit!

    I rest the case.

Sadly this movie failed to live up to the hype surrounding it. The love between akbar and jodha was not felt on screen simply because you had two actors whose acting ability needs to play catch-up with their looks. When trying to portray a love such as theirs you need strong actors and actresses who will convey this love through their acting eg. kajol, rani, amir khan, akshay khana, etc - i am positive that had these actors portrayed the roles of akbar and jodha the three hours and 20 minutes would have been well spent. Unfortunately ash and hritik failed to capture the essence of the movie - LOVE DOES CONQUER ALL.
Ash and Hritik were chosen for their popularity amongst bollywood moviegoers rather than their talent and this showed clearly in the overall result. Ashtosh clearly needs a lesson in editing because there were many surplass scenes that could have been eliminated and still retain the storyline. As far as scriptwriting goes - a talent that is clearly lacking in many bollywood movies. A weak script = a weak movie and this was JA. Despite the opulence and splendour of the set designs and costumes, it did nothing to create the magic and ambience of the moghul period. Although it would be unfair to compare JA to Mughal-E-Azam, we need to ask why do we still remember MA ; what made this movie so special, so unique. In short the brilliant acting of Madhubala and Dilip Kumar, who strangely enough were not on speaking terms when the movie was made, but not once was this apparent on the screen. If bollywood directors, actresses can try and capture the magic of yesteryear bollywood then i am positive indian cinema will lose the image of “poor copyright” and “unimaginative cinema”

Hrithik is far better an obsever than an actor…Thats why he had done such a legacy act in the movie…
i came to see this yesterday finally…because i was suffering from eye problem…and now i can say this is hrithikbest performance other than ‘koi mil gaya’ and ‘dhoom2′…..Those who still were not able to see this movie…Mail at my id i will suggest you the audies..
go and enjoy an epic romance

  91. vineeth

Those who are commenting bad reviews of this movie..i want to tell them that ..you are jealous that hrithik has done a superb act ..that no one can replicate it…

    Dear Vineeth

Hritik is a good actor (enjoyed mujhe dosti karoge, etc.) but for this role a stronger actor, with a greater screen presence was required. The essence of the story of jodha and akbar’s love was lost in the costumes and set design, and the inability of the actors to portray these roles. When your looks overwhelm your acting skills (as with hritik and ash) ie. your looks speaks louder than your words, unfortunately the audience would miss what the movie is all about. Even though ash and hritik fit the perfect description of prince and princess (in looks) sadly this was all that the audience was able to receive from this movie…ash and hritik dressed up in period costumes. Watching other period movies (huge fan) this one fell way short off the mark. The fight scenes were very “rehearsed” as nothing was spontaneous or as it would appear on a battlefield..they were to neat. Too much emphasis on the opulence, grandeur and splendour, too little time spent on script, editing and finding the right actors. Bad directorship by ashutosh. Better luck next time.

  94. Rohit

Just Awesome—Hrithik is what ther actors can’t imagine to be. His style in Dhoom 2 and now the King show in Jodha Akhbar is really of a greatest actor.

  95. vineetth

    dear SZM

i was shocked by your reviews…
    are u kidding…
jodha akbar is all about and epic love …and not a modern romance..
do you expect to have a sizzling act in the movie….If u need to understand the movie..you must first prepare yourself that its not an 21th century movie…and in the 18 century…all was focuused on color texture and beauty..so did bu ashutosh…..he has done that before and again…..
first understand the concept and its needs…….not your needs…..

compared to any…any …any other actor in the current century…no one can come close to his legacy act….
i am proud that i am a big fan of himm………

  96. mahmud

its a long movie.i think mugale azam better for this.ash looking very gorgious.rittik was good alltime.this time joddaakbar like movie not acceptable for everyone.so its a disaster for youth.
