January 2010 – Bollywood Movie Releases

January 2010 is packed with several big releases along with a few small, but very interesting films lined up for release. Check them out.

January 8th 2010

  • Pyaar Impossible – The first release of the year is a Yashraj Film written and produced by Uday Chopra. Pyaar Impossible stars Priyanka Chopra and Uday himself, who returns to the big screen after more than 3 years – his last release was Dhoom 2 in 2006.  Pyaar Impossible is a beauty meets geek tale, a date film directed by Jugal Hansraj. Fathiya, one of our readers here, has already watched the film and posted her short review.
  • Dulha Mil Gaya – Shahrukh Khan fans desperate to watch him on the big screen, after a long long time, would probably be the only ones to watch this much-delayed film. Also starring Fardeen Khan and Sushmita Sen, Dulha Mil Gaya is directed by Mudassar Aziz.

January 15th 2010

  • Chance Pe Dance – Shahid Kapoor on a high after Kaminey returns with the lovely Genelia D’Souza in this Ken Ghosh (Ishq Vishq) directed film on ‘strugglers’. The hype is strangely missing.
  • Hello! Hum Lallan Bol Rahe Hain – Also releasing on 15th is this Rajpal Yadav, Preeti Mehra comedy directed by Dileep Shukla.
  • Idiot Box – The third release of the week stars Sushant Singh (The Legend Of Bhagat Singh) and Hrishita Bhatt. Idiot box is directed by Sunanda Mitra. Can ‘Idiot’ in the title do the trick for this low budget film or will it go unnoticed?

January 22nd 2010

  • Veer – Salman Khan’s most ambitious period film Veer, is the biggest and most expensive release of the month. The movie also stars Zarine Khan, Jackie Shroff, Mithun Chakraborty and Sohail Khan. Directed by Anil Sharma of Gadar fame, it remains to be seen if Veer can match or surpass the super success of Hrithik Roshan’s Jodha Akbar.

Janaury 29th 2010

  • Rann – Ram Gopal Varma has been terribly inconsistent in the last 2 -3 years. Apart from Sarkar Raj and Phoonk, he has gone wrong with every other film. We don’t really know what to expect, it could go either way – great or awfully bad. The promos look good though. Rann stars Amitabh Bachchan, Paresh Rawal, Ritesh Deshmukh, Suchitra Krishnamurthy, Mohnish Behl, Rajat Kapoor, Gul Panag, Neetu Chandra, Rajpal Yadav and Sudeep (Kannada superstar)
  • Ishqiya – Is our pick for the month. Three of the most talented actors in the industry – Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan – come together in this crime thriller produced by Vishal Bhardwaj and directed by Abhishek Chaubhey.
  • Road to Sangam – Is a patriotic film directed by débutante director Amit Rai. The movie stars Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Pawan Malhotra amongst others.

Biggest release of the month – Veer
Most awaited film of the month – Veer
Our picks for each week – Pyaar Impossible, Chance Pe Dance, Veer, Ishqiya

~Dulha Mil Gaya might be seen as a flop, but what about all the hits SRK has given, and they are all original rather than being copied from other Hollywood Movies. Who can forget what Shah Rukh Khan has done to the Bollywood Industry, He made a name for himself. He is known world wide as the KING OF BOLLYWOOD. Sorry i cant quite see anything special in Salman Khan’s Name, just a person who has given many flops but turns out to give one or two average hits in several years. Nothing special about his acting, just gets his top off and attract women.
Im not a big SRK Fan, but thats the truth mate. No one can deny that!

  • Adnan talkin about flops a admit sallus made flops and srks also made loads of flops too, dont forget sallus got some blockbusters on his name too but a admit they not more than srk but still he’s a good actor and a woudnt say he jus gives one or two hits a year, eres the list of the movies

    Sallus blockbusters

    maine pyar kiya (1989)
    saajan (1991)
Hum aapke hain kaun (1994) also the 2nd biggest grosser of all time in bollywood of hindi cinema
    Biwi no 1 (1999)

    Srk blockbusters

    DDLJ (1995)
    DTPH (1997)
    KKHH (1998)
    DEVDAS (2002)
    VEER ZARA (2004)
    OSO (2007)

it proves srk has more blockbusters than salman, but salmans hum aapke hain kaun is bigger than all srk blockbusters you agree with me

And one more thing srk didnt make a name for him self, the chopras and johars were with him out of the 6 blockbusters 4 films he’s done there are wid the 2 names that av mentioned chopras and the johars, if it werent for them 2 would srk have reached to the top and become king of bollywood without these 2 guys

  • @ Naveed UK
Firstly every actor in the Bollywood Industry has had its days (like Akshay Kumar said in De Dana Dan, ” Every dog has its days”). Even the Legend Big B gave flops but along with them he gave the biggest Hits too.

Secondly, the blockbusters you mentioned between the two Actors, both of them gave flops too, im sure both of them have a big list for that Heading.

You forgot to mention two recent movies for Shah Rukh Khan in 2007 and 2008, i assuming youve got a bad side against him. The movie in 2007 got him one of the many FilmFare Awards he has recieved in his Career. Moving on from that He also released RNBDJ in 2008, i believe this was a huge box office success.
I agree with you Naveed that people have helped him reach to the top but the fact is that He has reached at the Top, No matter which being has helped him.

  • ok adnan

1st thing a have nothing against srk i have seen most of his films some are good some are bad, i enjoy his films, i mentioned his movie OSO in 2007 and his other film chak de india which released also that year was a hit which also filmfare gave him the best actor, but a was talking about the box office success not the awards of his career, talkin about awards from my point of view some of the best actors awards he won a think he didnt deserve em most of the times these awards are fixed especially 2004 he got nominated for 3 films (swades, veer zara and mai hoo na) for best actor which only holds about 5 best actors in a category, why give him 3 nominations if they did it in 2004 wid SRK, they could have gave 4 nominees to big b in 2005 for films like sarkar waqt virudh and black (which he did win anyway) so most of the awards are fixed,

1997 (got the best actor award for DTPH, which i think anil kapoor should have won it for virasat)
1998 (got the best actor award for KKHH, which i think ajay should have got for zakhm)
2002 won it for SRK il give him that but ajay was also good that year with company
2004 won it for swades but big b was wicked in khakee too
2007 (won for OSO but a think ma man akshay should have had that award for namestey london)
thats my personal point of view havent got nothing against SRK hope you SRK fans dont jump me lol

2nd i admit RNBDJ was a big hit hit in 2008 but in that year the biggest blockbuster was the aamir khan film GHAJINI

  • Naveed you have forgotten one of the best movies of Shah Rukh’s Career, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. I am Appalled!

  • K3G wasnt in the category for srk for the best actor thats why i didnt mention that film but i agree its a very good film

  • @ Naveed
Box Office Success counts but its the Awards that the Actors are also eyeing at.
Personally you are not admitting the fact that you have abit of Hatred against Shah Rukh Khan, because every Award Shah Rukh Khan has won, you are mentioning another actor such as Anil Kapoor Or Big B in the years deserved to win. You also said that he had three releases in 2004 ( Swades, Veer Zaara and Main Hoon Na), its called putting in effort to the movie and then recieving the reward at the end of the year.
I believe that Akshay Kumar has also released couple or more movies in a year, but the fact is that he never recieved a award or he may just have recieved a nomination. Akshay Kumar has a list of movies coming out this year (2010), i would be surprised if he won the Best Actor Award. I have nothing against Akshay or any other actors in bollywood, but what i would like to say is that Actors such as Shah Rukh have made their way up and some people are jealous and cant accept the fact.
Finally we were talking about Shah Rukhs Perfomance in 2008 not which movies won or which movie grossed more.

  • These were the Nominess for the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 2002 (Which Aamir won for Lagaan).

    Aamir Khan – Lagaan
Aamir Khan – Dil Chahta Hai
    Amitabh Bachchan – Aks
Shahrukh Khan – Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
Sunny Deol – Gadar: Ek Prem Katha

Shah Rukh Khan was nominated that year Naveed.

  • SOME OF YOU GUYS GIVE ADVERSE COMMENTS WITHOUT EVEN SEEING THE FILM AND CAUSE MANY OF US TO MISS OUT ON SOME GOOD MOVIES. AS A RESULT I TOTALLY IGNORE THE REMARKS OF THE REGULAR “CRITICS”
IT DOES NOT HELP THE INDUSTRY ANY AND CAUSES THE LOSS OF MUCH BOX OFFICE REVENUE.
IT DOES NOT SAY MUCH OF YOUR CHARACTER OR SHOULD I SAY LACK OF CHARACTER.
IN VIEW OF THIS I WILL VOTE FOR “IDIOT BOX ‘ TO BE THE SLEEPER HIT AND HOPE THAT IT WILL BE BIG ENOUGH TO BURY YOU IN IT.

  • 1st thing pal if i had hatred for srk al admit it
2nd akshay himself said it he dosent look at awards only box office counts for him and he also said i only enjoy entertainin my audiences and fans which he’s best at, and a admit it akshays hasnt been making films with good award winning performances in the 20 years or so

3rd talking about actors making it to the top you have to give credit to akshay there, he was no one back in the days the way he made it to the top alone with his hard work and effort and also giving the khans a nightmare at the box office especially srk, thats what you call a actor making it to the top

  • i dont know whether overall it will be a flop or hit or bb but at single screens the records are 200% to be broken. cant tell about craze in multiplex owners but single screens records mainly holded by two films ghajini and wanted will be broken by huge margin. even galani have written on facebook that they are damn sure about single screens. there will be no record which will n

  • Zolan, since the poll allows you to vote for upto 4 films, you cannot add up the percentage for each film.

64% of all people who have voted, have voted for Veer. But that doesn’t mean they only voted for Veer, they could have chosen others films too. Get the point? :)

  • Shahrukh should not sign rubbish movies like dulha milgaya we all love him and his work he should not destroy his image by signing movies like dulha mil gaya.
