Jai Ho is struggling at multiplexes in almost every circuit in India, except Mumbai where it has held up well for the noon shows after a good start in the morning.
Single-screens are rock-solid, but even at mass-centres the opening is not quite at the same level as what we’ve come to expect from Salman Khan films. Business in South India was pretty flat too, with the film performing well only at select few centres.
The reason behind a good but below-expectations start, could be due to the excess of action-masala films in recent times. Also, Jai Ho didn’t have a popular leading lady and lacked high-production values which is turning out to be the key for a good opening at big-city multiplexes.
The start has practically ruled out any chance of records on Day 1. The only record that Jai Ho could better is for the highest non-holiday opening for a Salman Khan starrer, which is currently held by Dabangg 2 (20.98 crore). But even for that, the film has to pick up at multiplexes towards the end of the day.
As of now, it looks like Jai Ho is likely to be collect around 18-19 crore net on its opening day at the domestic box office.

Lol SRK gave 30+ days without an urban looking film and ce did 28+ on its second day which was a non holiday with fewer screens than Jai ho. Salman’s end started with Dabangg 2 and continuing with Jai ho.
Reviews of the film are extremely positive. At par with 3idiots.. So even if it doesnt break day 1 records, it will cross 200 cr for sure.. And after seeing bad films like Chennai Express & Dhoom 3 crossing 200 cr mark it doesnt matter anyway. Film acchi honi chaiye paise toh CE aur D3 jaisi films bhi kama leti hain. and Jai Ho reviews are extraordinary so far!
Jai Ho is the perfect example of how a relevant social subject becomes converted to a run of the mill masala action film. While I would say this is Salman’s most honest effort at acting in the past few years, too many negatives pull the film down. Pathetic actress, poor direction and terrible music are the main problems. Salman and Tabu were the only saving grace of the film. And Salman just cannot resist taking off his shirt, can he? This whole film rides on Salman power but that is not enough to save this film. A man who kills people by drunk driving, beats women, shoots black bucks and still remains free from the law cannot be expected to convince people by doing this kind of films that he is ‘Being Human’.
Haha.. so Salman fans have now started talking about ‘good films’ and ‘reviews’. LOL.
Breaking records was always difficult for ‘Jai ho’ bcoz ‘Dhoom 3’ did outstanding collections but little less collections on 1st day does not means movie will do bad.Also the review is good so it should pick up tomorrow and Sunday and should get 75+ crores weekend.Jai ho.
I’m surprised. Anything less than 20 crore (great for non-Superstars) would be disappointment for a Salman Khan starrer releasing after more than a year. Early estimates are suggesting that it is almost 14-15 crore behind Ek Tha Tiger, which released more than a year ago during Eid.
Non holiday factor has done the damage. It was a good masala entertainer, and I expect it to show growth over the weekend. But, if it indeed does not cross the 20 crore today, then it will struggle to cross the lifetime business of his own Ek Tha Tiger.
@ Tejan – how ridiculous can you be? jai ho reviews and feedback is nowhere near 3 idiots. 3 idiots also did 202 crore back in 09 which is equivalent to 325 – 350 crore or so today and jai ho won’t come close.
Films like ce and d3 were appreciated by majority or else they would have not crossed 200 crores (like talash or ra.1). And if CE etc masala films are bad then I’m sure salman’s jai ho n dabangg n bodyguard n ett are even worse!!

Poor Salman khan…. this movie will end up at 140crores lifetime. This is his capacity. He is not SRK who can bring in crowds. Only with 6 open days and competition from and screen count less due to akshay movie, CE has managed to 220crores..If it has got free weeks like dhoom3 then CE would have been first 300 crores movie in india alone…. Hail the king khan who never had any come-back movie like Salman or Aamir khan. SRK is ruling since 90’s with highest success ratio and more importantly not doing movies which are already successfully tested in South…. A super star is one who can pull the crowds with only his presence… He doesnt need any south remake to mint money….Salman’s power is gone now….his range is only 140crores that too with 2-3 weeks free period. (like bodygaurd, dabanng, ready etc)..
Reviews are good, expect huge jump from saturday n sunday, plus point it get 20days open run, anyway 170cr plus sure

End of sallu’s carrier was started from Dabba2 only and this crap ho is an another step towards that downfall. Now see the excuses given by lallu fans. Poor article…. BOI expecting 23-25 cr and Taran reckons same but jumps over weekend likely so 80 cr is a realistic target. I expected 25cr plus but will see over the werkend the actuals coming in but film is being liked so repetitive viewings is guaranteed so on course to be 6th BlockBuster in a row.
Looking at the reviews which are totally mixed and avg opening the following can be the progress:
Fri : 20 cr.
Sat: 22 cr
Sun: 28 cr.
Rest of week: 45 cr
1st week: 115 – 120 cr
2nd Week : 35 cr
3rd Week: 15 cr
End of business: 170 – 180 cr…

Since it is an official remake of Telugu Film “Stalin,” you all know about the story of the film more or less. So, I will talk my experience after watching the movie twice today.
A thoroughly entertaining movie!!! Typical Salman Khan Ishtyle. But it has ingredients for both mass and class.
High on emotions! Action scenes are more realistic than those in Bodyguard and Dabangg 2. I really enjoyed the motorcycle scene of Jai chasing down the villains. is really enjoyable Comic scenes were very good. Daisy is OK. Sana Khan should have been given more screen space. She did her best within given space. Some scenes had been seen in the trailer were not in the movie. Especially, the dialogue “Aam Aadmi Sutaa Huwa Sher Hai, Ungli Mat Kar. Cheer Paad Degaa.” I think Censor Board deleted them.
Salman Khan, Tabu, Genelia D’Souza and the Child Artist rocked. Salman Khan lived up to our expectation from him of being a social crusader in the film. I would say, performance wise, it was the third best performance after Tere Naam and Dabangg!!
