Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na Movie Review

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na marks the acting debut of Aamir Khan’s nephew Imraan Khan. Abbas Tyrewala of Munnabhai M.B.B.S and Main Hoon Na fame (as a writer) has scripted and directed this fun flick mainly targetted at the youth. This is also the first movie from Aamir Khan productions to not feature the superstar himself. But any product that Aamir lends his name to, is keenly anticipated and be rest assured, high on quality. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is no exception!

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is about Jai Singh Rathore a.k.a Rats (Imraan Khan), a Rajput who doesnt believe in violence and Aditi Mahant a.k.a Meow (Genelia D’Souza), a cute and violent girl. Aditi feels Jai is a big coward and Jai says her parents should have rinsed her mouth with soap! They fight like crazy but just cant live without each other. They are almost a made for each other couple, their parents know this, friends know it, but they believe they are just great friends, no more, no less. Does friendship turn into love?

Jane Tu Ya Jane Na Review

Whatever Aamir Khan touches seems to be turning into gold. First Lagaan, then Taare Zameen Par and now Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, although not in the same league, is yet another classic from Aamir Khan productions. What works for Jaane Tu is the well etched characters, performed brilliantly by the actors. Its not just the main characters, but even the supporting characters that add a lot of value to Jaane Tu.

Director Abbas Tyrewala has executed the script with brilliance. The first half is almost flawless, a simple tale of friendship and love, that either makes you smile or laugh. The second half, could have been better.. it tends to drag a tad bit at times and gets predictable when Genelia is engaged. The writer should have opted for a different climax and made it slightly more believable. The dialogues are witty, hilarious at times and brilliant. The music by A.R. Rehman is perfect for the movie. “Pappu cant dance saala” and “Kabhi Kabhi” stand out.

Scenes that stand out in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

  • Aditi’s parents and Jai’s discussion on the engagement. Funny!
  • Aditi wonders how the 5 years passed by. “On the phone beta” says Jai’s mom.
  • Scene between Amit and Aditi, his confession. Heart warming and brilliant!
  • Aditi begins to realise her love for Jai only when Manjari Phadnis enters the scene. The jealousy, sadness and regret is executed and performed perfectly.
  • When Amit takes Aditi into his room.
  • Scenes between Jai’s mother and his dead father (he talks from a portrait). Hilarious!
  • The chemistry between the gang of 6 friends.
  • Honestly I didnt like the climax, but the performance by Genelia and Imraan, when surrounded by the cops, makes an impact.

I can just go on and on, great moments make a great movie and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na has simply fantastic moments in abundance.

Coming to the performances, Imraan Khan reminded me a lot of Aamir Khan, especially the mischievious grin. Imraan overall makes a solid debut, not once does he go over the top. A good restrained performance, this actor will surely go a long way. Genelia D’Souza’s expressions alone are worth the price of the ticket. She oozes cuteness and performs well. Manjari Phadnis looks good, acts well. Ratna Pathak Shah is superb as always. Paresh Rawal makes you laugh a couple of times. Naseeruddin Shah in a short role is just perfect. The director has managed to extract excellent performances from every other character actor.

Overall, Jaane Tu is immensely enjoyable and high on entertainment. If your looking for a movie on friendship and love, that makes you smile and laugh at times. Dont miss it! At the box-office, the lacklustre performance of Love Story 2050 along with good word out mouth should ensure a HIT status atleast!

Rating: ★★★★☆

Allswell: U r quiet.. I think u didn’t watch the 3 movies which I mentioned and u just mentioned what other people said or what u read in newspapers or websites and came up with this conclusion!!
Let me ask u a question: If u all observe these minor stuff in any movie then hwo come that u all loved Chakde India?!! Chakde was a very good movie, but after watching, a friend of mine who’s indian told me that there’s a mistake in the script as India didn’t participate in the world champion cup, and they won only in India. So this means that the director manipulated the fact and introduced what wasn’t based on reality!! So how come that everyone liked it and no one criticised the movie or mentioned this fact?!!

I loved it even if that was true ’cause it’s only a movie and any movie based on a true story won’t tell us 100% the true story.
When we enter a cinema, we just need to have a good time, to see a good direction with best stories and performance, and some good music.. that’s it, and I found all that while watching the 3 movies which I mentioned earlier, but didn’t find it in Jaane Tu!

COPY OF A ENGLISH MOVIE – COPY OF A ENGLISH MOVIE – COPY OF A ENGLISH MOVIE

WELL HAVE U GUYS SEEN “WHEN HARRY MET SALLY” THE ENTIRE STORY TELLING THING IS PICKED UP FROM THERE, AND THE MOVIE IS ON THE SAME LINES.

NICE TRY FOR A HINDI VERSION, BUT SERIOUSLY, BOLLYWOOD CAN NEVER BE ORIGINAL, FU**IN WASTE OF MONEY WHEN U KNOW ITS A COPY, DIDNT EXPECT FROM AAMIR KHAN.

GROW UP GUYZ, I THINK NO 1 IN BOLLYWOOD HAS A BRAIN TO THINK SOMETHING ORIGINAL.

THAT’S WHY I HATE WATCHIN THESE STUPID HINDI MOVIES, GOOD FOR THE RICKSHAW WALLAS ONLY.

B.O. update: ‘J.T.Y.J.N.’ opens to almost 100% on Friday
- By Taran Adarsh, July 11, 2008 – 18:03 IST
The much-delayed multi-starrer MEHBOOBA, as predicted by us, opened to a good response at single screens in the Hindi belt. However, expectedly, its opening at multiplexes was very poor… JAANE TU YA JAANE NA continues to reign supreme. The film entered into second week with fantastic collections, grossing almost 100% at several screens. What’s worth highlighting is that practically all multiplexes have increased the shows of the film in its second week – a fact highlighted in the ‘Biz Talk’ column on Thursday morning. Besides, the makers have opened approx. 100 more centres from this week. The first week nett is expected to be in the range of Rs. 20 cr. +. After deducting theatre rentals, it clearly indicates that the film has yielded profits for its producer/distributors from the first week itself… LOVE STORY 2050 continues to remain on the lower side. The second weekend has also opened to a lukewarm response.

>>> SO PUT DIS THRU DAT THICK SKULL… BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE!!

Imran Khan Is A Star
Friday 11th July 2008 15.30 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Its been more than eight years that Hrithik Roshan came onto the scene with a bang. Hrithik was accepted by the public and his film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai did extremely well at the box office. After that there have been stars which the public liked but their first films were not accepted, a good example is Ranbir Kapoor last year and even Harman Baweja whose Love Story 2050 released last week. But for Imraan the public have accepted him and his film Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na is no doubt going to be a blockbuster.

The collections coming in are excellent from all over India, most theatres are showing 75%+ collections over the first week with cinemas in Pune and Bangalore doing 90%.

The multiplex theatres in key centres like Chandigarh, Lucknow, Nagpur and Indore have all shown 75%+ collections in week one which shows acceptance in the mini metroes.

The first week saw Jaane Tu… playing on around 375 (90 digital) cinemas and in week two this figure has gone to around 475 (140 digital) cinemas.

We already have Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan amongst the top stars and maybe namesake Imran Khan will join them soon.

Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na is excellent and recorded 20 crore nett business in week one. The second week is off to a very strong start and the prints increased. The film should emerge an All Time Blockbuster in Mumbai circuit as business in Mumbai city and Pune was extraordinary on the 8th day. The other major circuits should do blockbuster business.

Love Story 2050 is poor all over. The film fell badly on weekdays and recorded 11 crore business in week one. The film will be a heavy loser for all its distributors. FLOP

Fathiya:  (July 12, 2008 at 10:00 pm)

Shotgun: this happens sometimes.. some crappy win.. and some good flop. I watched both.. I watched LS2050 and came back from cinema a while ago.. It’s not less than the movie “Krrish” it’s not the same story but the quality and the direction is not less. The movie’s very good, Harman is very good as a debutant doing such a movie.. Herithik did Krrish after how many years?! 7 or 8 years! but Harman did such a good movie and he’s a newcomer!

I never believe in reviews, critics and the box office collections.. I believe what I saw with my own eyes and compared the 2 movies.. Jaane Tu is a worthless movie won at the box office ’cause of ads, Aamir Khan’s prodcution which is weak in direction and hv many flaws, but people loved it blindly!!

Jaane Tu... Perfect Entertainer...:  (July 13, 2008 at 1:19 am)

Who the hell goes to notice so much in MOVIES my dear Fathiya..?????????

We Indians have a lot of other Jobs, are busy in our Jobs the whole week, and go to the theater to enjoy 3 hrs or so… Just for entertainment…

Sorry, dont have time to notice flaws and other shits…. JUST watch the movie… If we enjoy, its paisa vasool, otherwise it doesn’t matter if it is not good… Like, it was a total waste watching Sawariya… was that script called good..??????? Idiot story….

Ya, Tara Rum Pum was a good entertainer… I agree… MAngal Pandey, I did not watch, so no comments…. And , Tara Rum Pum was not a super flop, it worked fine indeed…

But, Jaane Tu… I must say is very good movie for a refreshing weekend…

You keep on wasting your time in noticing so much in the films… Total wastage of USEFUL time…

My Advise to you – Stop using your mind in such things… Do some other job…

Thanks for a good Debate at indicine.com

The website owners will be happy having a good response to their reviews..

This is my ONLY reply, as I dont have so much time to keep on replying..

You keep replying, you dont have ther job I guess..

Bye guys

Maybe I’m a bit annoying, people r different in their taste, but I also, although I’m not working, left my job since 3 years, got many things and responsibilities during the day, I watch movies for entertainment as u all do and sit opposite my pc and love sharing opinion is also one of my hobbies and I do it when I’m free on more than one website.

Maybe most of u enjoyed this movie, but some didn’t, some got bored and felt it’s a worthless movie because we are different in our taste, our way of thinking, what’s interesting for u won’t be for me and vice versa.. sorry if i bothered u with my opinion, but as I’m not Indian just wanted to share my opinion with u all and find out the reason, why some good movies didn’t work at the box office and some did?
I think it’s just a waste of time trying to do so.. it’s just like I’m asking all of u: why most of u love very spicy food? It’s like asking Aamir Khan: Why don’t u believe in awards as every actor does?! And dear, I didn’t ask u specifically to answer my questions, but anyone who’d love to and hv enough time to do it.

During the release of Saawariya, many audiences loved the movie, I read hundreds of comments on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s website and found out that it wasn’t only me who loved it but many others did, and as we r few, therefore we don’t rule the box office as we might be only 20% and not 80% who do so.. also Mangal Pandey which was excellent movie and many audiences in our country admired it and were surprised when they found out that it didn’t work at the box office in India.
Tararampum: worked for more than a month in Bahrain and other countries in Gulf Arabia, did a good income.. everyone (95% i can say) of people, mostly the families specially kids loved it, admired it, bought some copies of the movie and used to play it day and night enjoying every scene, little boys enjoyed the race scenes and girls enjoyed the kids scenes and the songs.

THEREFORE DEAR ALL.. I’M SURPRISED!
