Veteran Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has said the industry is getting dirtier and going backwards as time progresses. He also said clashes are no longer ethical as his latest film ‘Kaabil’ was only given 40% of screens, the rest of which went to the other release this weekend Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’.
Talking to DNA India, Roshan said “I thought this industry will get mature day by day with all the corporate coming in. But it is getting dirtier and dirtier and we are going backwards”
“I have told them to avoid such clashes because it’s not good and ethical for the film. The producers are losing, distributors are losing, exhibitors are losing, audience is losing, who has so much money to go and watch two films? You are depriving so many people of so many things. Only way to go about it is by going 50-50. So that others when they come with such clashes they will think twice.”
Remembering the olden days in the industry when the industry was close-knit family, Roshan said times have changed and people only put up a nice face in front of the media.
“Everything is getting dirty and unethical. No professionalism, no friendship, it’s (Bollywood) not a close knit family at all. It was in my time. Jeetendra, me and Rishi Kapoor are best of friends even today. That was the industry we were working in. Now just shaking hands that also we don’t know what they mean. Putting up a smile and kissing each other’s cheeks in front of the media. That’s not friendship.” he said.

My Questions is why don’t you aver the clash ? this date is not your father date , anybody can come on release the movie . you are simply looser and will always remain looser , Krish 3 collection is 179 cr but your own calculater made 240 cr and Bang Bang 141 cr you make 181 cr now again for Kabil 8 cr opening but you made it 10-43 you don’t have a shame at all . shame on you and you lost the clash with Akashya Kumar … this clash is already lost you movie will be flop anyway

A movie carrying high buzz and featuring bigger star always gets more number of screens, there is no rocket science in that.
60% of screens went to Raees because exhibitors were willing to encash the buzz of Raees and they were less confident about kaabil.
Now since kaabil is receiving rave reviews and carrying extremely positive wom, there is a possibility that few screens will be shifted to it in coming days.
But by ranting continuously, you are the one who is converting- an otherwise dignified looking clash -into a dirtier one.
Last Diwali Ajay was crying on same way and lost the clash now you are going same way . movie is already released so let the people decide who will win the box office clash . your son even don’t have 10 % star power to pull the people in theater on first day actual box office collection for Kaabil is even less then digester MD . The entire world is witness that you are king of manipulated . if you have little shame on you please for god shake don’t manipulate that much the way you does .

If he was so concerned about no of screens, he should not have clashed with Raees at the first place.
I do understand that it’s the makers of Raees who shifted their date, but once they shifted to Jan they continuously focussed on their marketing strategies and promotion rather releasing dozens of emotional press statements on a daily basis.

Firstly get a properly occupancy in the given screens. Secondly screens are divided by distributors and exhibitors based on the stardom of actors. Stop crying. When ur son Hrithik is behaving like a gentleman, why can’t you do the same?????
He is correct but on a positive note srk n Hrithik have put box office on fire, like really this is the true potential of republic day holiday, Akshay with his baby n airlift didn’t actually live up to it’s true value.
In fact I do feel Akshay is really overrated in box office sense these days.

Ouch. Looks like Rakesh is conceding defeat in the clash and blaming the industry. if the occupancy for his film were so low (on the opening day) then adding screens would not increase his earnings. It’s all about supply and deman; the demand for Raees was greater than Kaabil hence the favorable split for Raees.
There is still time for Kaabil to grow and if there are positive trends, there’s nothing stopping the Cinemas from switching to a favorable screen count for Kaabil in coming days/weeks.
Don’t be a sore loser, Rakesh. Stop continuously talking about the clash and negativity.
@papa Roshan plz stop crying.. even if u got 40% shows (division actually is 45-55 roughly) they are not running to capacity.. why will a distributor face loss when 55%(Raees) shows are running on 60-70% capacity and and the other 45% (kaabil) on 25% capacity.. why will distributor give u more shows when he can make more money from Raees..
Coming to second point.. Industry isn’t a close knit family.. I know u announced date first.. but everyone has the right to pick a date they feel is best.. where were you when BM clashed with Dilwale.. you never uttered a word.. where were you when gadar and lagaan clashed.. and in a family the elder brother can also adjust for younger brother.. why did you not move to another date when you very well knew Raees is already delayed..

Rakesh sir, you are right somehow but the current movie business is also restricted to collection of mostly in first week so everyone want to take maximum collection in first weekend itself so fight for screens, if movie does well than it can create huge business in second and third week. In older times clashes were happened but screen fight were less due to single screens culture as well as life of movie on theatres. Films were collecting movie for 10,20,25 or more weeks. Time have changed so does the business. Though I agree you must be very sad with the decision of Srk & Excel of clash.
