IndicineFBO 2017: OK Jaanu, Raees, Kaabil and Jolly LLB 2

Note: IndicineFBO predictions are updated once every 3 days on the FBO page. The final predictions are made one day before the release of the film.

With 2016 coming to an end, it’s time to look forward to another year of predictions. Ok Jaanu, Raees and Kaabil are the big releases this month, followed by Jolly LLB 2 in February. The Rangoon Trailer will be out on January 6.

Ok Jaanu: The trailer of the film got a mixed response, but the popularity of ‘The Humma Song’ has helped increase awareness around the film. The pairing of ‘Aashiqui 2’ stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor is what’s generating interest, while the lack of freshness in the love story is possibly the biggest negative. ‘Ok Jaanu’ should open above the 5 crore mark, with the fate of the film almost entirely dependent on how it grows over the weekend. It will face a lot of competition too – Dangal is likely to remain strong in the 4th week, while Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Haramkhor and Deepika Padukone’s debut Hollywood film ‘xXx: The Return of Xander Cage’ will divide business.

Raees vs Kaabil

Raees vs Kaabil will be the first big clash of 2017

Raees: Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the big screen after his last solo-lead film ‘FAN’, has generated a lot of excitement. But the film will be competing against Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Kaabil’ which also releases on the same day. The Day 1 battle is likely to be one-sided with ‘Raees’ leading. What’s working so far is SRK’s presence, the dialogues and the trailer has also received a very good response.

Kaabil: The second trailer of ‘Kaabil’ has received a excellent response, which promises to make the clash more even. While ‘Kaabil’ is almost certain to fall short of ‘Raees’ on Day 1, the battle for the more important lifetime total could be much closer if the Hrithik Roshan starrer turns out to be a well-made entertaining film. The final push for ‘Kaabil’ will come through a few promos which will be released around 10 days before the film, that could give the business of the film a big boost leading upto its release.

Jolly LLB 2: Akshay Kumar’s first film of 2017 is generating all the interest. The response we got from the theatre samples for the trailer is excellent. If the makers can sustain the interest for the next one month, we could be looking at a opening in the 15 crore range – which is excellent for a film like ‘Jolly LLB 2’. For now, it could be the first film of 2017 that could recover all of its investment on the strength of its opening and first weekend business itself.
