Veteran actor Dharmendra, who ruled showbiz in the 1970s and 1980s, says he only wanted to be in people’s heart and not in people’s mind, and was never in the ball-game of being called the number one actor.
“In the ’70s and ’80s, I was so big that if I wished, I would not have let anyone get ahead of me, but I was never into this number one game. I only used to concentrate on my work. You lose concentration on work if you think about number one and number two. I was never in the race for number one and number two,” Dharmendra told reporters during the cover launch of People magazine.
“I always want to be people’s heart and not in people’s mind. I am in people’s heart and it is not easy to take me away from their heart (Dimag se toh nikal doge lekin dil se kaise nikal paoge),” he added.
While megastar Amitabh Bachchan complimented Dharmendra on Twitter for the outstanding promos of “Yamla Pagla Deewana 2”, Dharmendra says he thanked Big B for his compliment but he does not know how to use Twitter.
Writing on Twitter, Bachchan said: “Yamla Pagla Deewana 2″ looking like a lot of fun. Trailer a riot!! Wishing Dharamji, Sunny and Bobby the best … print ad and banners unique.”
“I called up Amitji he was shooting in Bhopal and he said he really liked the promos (Amitabh said: Paji bada mazaa aaya promo dekhke). I thank everyone whoever tweeted about ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’. Even now I don’t know to use Twitter. I am a Punjabi Jat… I don’t know anything about Twitter and I don’t even want to know about it. Maybe I will learn how to tweet in future,” the 77-year-old said.
Directed by Sangeeth Sivan, “Yamla Pagla Deewana 2” features Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Anupam Kher, among others. The film is slated for June 7 release.

@Nilesh Well said. Haters forget Salman did max # of films for firends and first time producers or producers in financial trouble so he charged little or no remuneration at all. He believed in and still does that ‘a friend in need is a friend indeed!’. Very interesting fact that Salman revealed in ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ years back that he thought over his career there are around a dozen maybe more movies which he did for free. Small roles or big role type movies.
Can you imagine todays young and current Gen of Actors who purposedly do very few movies if they will foresake payment on 1 movie let alone 10, 12 or 15 movies??? Not many will let me tell you. This is why the industry know Salman bhai as everyones ‘Bade Bhaiya’ and why we his fans call him the ‘Bade Dilwale’. Its a newz that Salman was bigger star in 90’s. i thought salman was the guy who played second fiddle to sanjay in saajan, sharukh in karan arun, sunny deol in jeet and even to sanjay kapoor in auzar. Yes he had two big hit in the form of maine pyar kiya and hum aapke hai kaun. But even amsha patel had two big blockbusters like kaho na pyar hai and gadar but she never was no. 1 actress so is salman in 90’s. Salman is no.1 now but dont try to make him born superstar
Salman fans shud accept the fact that salman became no.1 after bodyguard. Like we sharukh fans are accepting that he is now on top. He first became superstar in 1998 when his lots of films became hit and his shirtless song in pyar kiya toh darna kya and his huge impactful role in kuch kuch hota hai. But from 2000 onwards his films starts flopping. But his personal conroversies helped him to be in news all the time and also gained him lot of sympathies. With movie wanted he got lots of fans in small towns and with dabaang he hit jackpot thas it.
He was not no 1 bcoz dhamendra release 4-5 movies per year. Same is with akshay. But still he is at no 2.
