Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd – Movie Review

The tagline reads, Marriages are full of surprises. I personally do not know much about marriages but Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd sure is filled with a lot of surprises.

The story is about six married couples…

  1. Oscar Fernandes (Boman Irani) and Nahid (Shabana Azmi) are a old couple on a Honeymoon. People make fun of them, but they dont give a damn.
  2. Partho Sen (Kay Kay) and Milly sen (Raima Sen) are a couple from a small town in Bengal. Partho is very conservative, Milly loves adventure.
  3. Pinky (Amisha Patel) and Vicky (Karan Khanna). Pinky talks a lot, Vicky hates it.
  4. Hitesh (Ranvir Shorey) and Shilpa (Dia Mirza) are from a orthodox Gujarathi family. Shilpa is terrified of going on a honeymoon but Hitesh assures her parents that she will return with a smile on her face.
  5. Bunty (Vikram Chatwal) and Madhu (Sandhya Mridul). They meet through the internet. Madhu is Mumbaiite, Bunty is from the U.S.
  6. Aspi (Abhay Deol) and Zara (Minissha Lamba). No arguments, no misunderstandings, no fights, happy and satisfied. The perfect couple on the tour.

These six couples along with a driver and a guide are on a Honeymoon package tour to Goa. Oh wait, there is also a man on a bike wearing a leather jacket following them wherever they go. What unfolds is a light entertainer worth a watch on the big screen, especially for the youngster generation.

With a runtime of just over 2 hours, Honeymoon Travels has a Dil Chahta Hai kind of look and feel to it. Reema Kagti way of story telling is different and good. Few sequences have been handled with a lot of maturity. She deserves credit for keeping the length of the movie in check. The beautiful beaches and locales in Goa have been shot brilliantly by cinematographer, Deepti Gupta. The dialouges are good.

Yet another plus for Honeymoon Travels is the terrific performances by the cast. Kay Kay delivers a knockout performance. He is simply mind blowing as the reserved Bengali guy. Watch out for the scene in the beach when Raima Sen’s sari comes off and also when he unknowingly gets drunk in the later half of the movie. He might just walk away with a lot of awards at the end of the year for this particular performance.

Boman Irani is superb as always. Shabana Azmi is good. Amisha Patel hams in a few scenes. Abhay Doel (good), Minissha Lamba (surprisingly good), Sandhya Mridhul (Consistent throughout), Ranvir Shorey (Brilliant in a small role), Arjun Rampal and Dia Mirza (special appearance). The rest are strictly okay.

Overall, Honeymoon Travels is a sweet romantic comedy which will be loved both by the masses and the classes. At the box office, the movie should recover its cost in the first two weeks.
