With Chennai Express now set for theatrical release on August 9th, the film only has 6 open days before the release of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara on Independence Day (August 15).
The Shah Rukh Khan starrer will open on a national holiday for Eid-Ul-Fitr, giving it a good chance to surpass the opening day collections of Ek Tha Tiger (32 crore) which released on Independence Day last year.
Industry insiders say, that the decision to postpone Chennai Express was due to the fact that the muslim section of the audience can’t watch the film before the end of Ramadan.
With the release of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara on 15th, 6 days after Chennai Express, affect the collections of the film? Or will it be the other way round? Only time will tell!

1st weekend:- 48 cr
1st six days :- 65 cr
7th day (15 aug) :- 6 cr

(note :- all these collections are considering ce receives excellent word of mouth ..else it will be even lower than 100 cr)…

Sonu bhai, you forget to consider, JTHJ earn 120cr odd with SOS releasing same day. But agree about Don2 and Ra.1 those were not upto the mark. but still it collected more than many films.
Dont be so sure about CE box office collection. It might surprise. Wait till 11th August EOD.
I heard Ekta talking about the content of OUTIMD and the way she has planned the promotions it seems the makers are really confident about the film.
Why OUATIMD will have an edge over CE?
1. The formula of Rajat Arora + Milan Luthria is way better than Rohit Shetty + his action director.
2. SRK is doing a different role & it does not suits him, whereas for Akshay (atleast looks wise) it creates some magic and a better screen presence as well.
3. Pritam is on high after YJHD, so music will be loved by masses (tayyab ali, tu hu khwahish) +classess (yeh tune kya kiya, chugliyaan), whereas Vishal-Sekhar are trying to make a comeback. (certainly no impact like Dabanng or Rowdy Rathore songs for a masala film like this)
also songs (only 4) in OUATIMD looks situational whereas for CE it will affect the flow of film (6 songs
4. Cinematography looks promising n real for OUATIMD whereas for CE it is very colorful.
5. Last but not the least, Independance Day is a bigger holiday than a Eid holiday and this was proved last year with the release of ETT.
Also majority of non muslim crowd may plan for long weekend picnics and might miss CE & upon that if the word of mouth is bad then on their return they will prefer OUATIMD on 15th.

CE will release on 3400+ theatres and 9 aug is eid.It is sured that it will have a occupancy of 90-100% in multiplexes and 90-100% in single screens on opening day that means a 33cr collection is assured.

Records are meant to be broken and every big film has achance to that specially when we are talking about opening day or weekend these thing depend on 3 factors ( hype + big star + good promotion ) if these 3 factors click with people then we will have anew records all over the time no to CE with this Eid release for sure the film get the best chance to beat 32 records and the film can do it but for me i dont think this will happened but the film will get the secend biggest opening ever but when we are talking about weekend number then its adifference case and i can see anew record for the weekend with this film now fastest has achance to collect 100cr in six day so yes the film can be like ETT but the final result no way this like some poeple sai will collect 200 cr with avery good wom this film can at max 160-170 cr but for sure anything less than 150 cr will be disapointed because Shahrukh will not get better chance .He fail with super hero film ( ra one ) + romantic (JTHJ) + action ( don 2 ) to create records so its the last type to back to the game in very strong way and all the best to them even though i didnt like any song promo and hate RH film but i like shahrukh so wish him the best

I wonder why people are comparing SRK with Salman khan and Akshay kumar. Do these people weren’t born during the release of SRK’s DON movie which released the same day as of JAANEMAN movie (Both Salman khan +Akshay kumar were the lead stars) and what happend to the fate of that movie???
SRK is ruling bollywood since 90’s. He is the only actor who has maximum number of awards and with highest success ratio. We all know what is the status of Salman khan before ‘Wanted’ movie…nobody was ever talking about any records…..getting a hit was a tough for him..remember the flop movies – Heroes, Main aur mrs khanna, marie gold, hello, veer, Jaaneman, shadi karke phas gaya yaar, Yuvvraj etc. What I mean is the fact is Salman khan has seen such a low level in his career but SRK has never seen such type of lowness since the beginning.
Do you know 7 out of top 10 grossers of international market are of SRK’s movies?. For any actor award is the recognition, the people who dont get awards criticize them.
