Happy New Year has taken an outstanding opening all over on Friday at the domestic box office. The early morning reports suggest that most shows held as early as 7 in the morning are packed to capacity.
The opening that Happy New Year has taken is on-par with expectations from a Shahrukh Khan Diwali release and the advance booking for the rest of the day is incredible too.
The occupancy for the early morning shows at 4-5 centres that we tracked is about 20-25% higher than Bang Bang, and even better than Singham Returns which suggests that the film is on course to post a total of at least 30 cr+ on its opening day.
What’s also heartening is that Happy New Year has also taken a fantastic start at single-screen theatres.

- Hyderabad – All morning shows packed to capacity. 90-100% opening here and we are talking about shows that start at 8:45AM! At multiplexes in prime localities, very few tickets of Happy New Year are available. If you live in Hyderabad, grab those tickets now before they are sold out!
- Bangalore – Most shows here start only at 9:45am onwards. But we have been informed that Happy New Year is set to take the best start of 2014 here. Hundreds already at theatres to catch the first show. The advance booking for the day is also outstanding, as good as Dhoom 3, no less!
- Mumbai (city) – Shows as early as 8AM were packed to capacity here. Most shows start 9:30 onwards, but many of those first-day-first-show tickets are sold out. If you prefer purchasing your tickets directly at theatres, instead of booking it online, be prepared to stand in long queues.
- Pune – A cinepolis multiplex in Hadapsar has 38 shows of Happy New Year, but guess what, 80-90% opening for the frst 5 morning shows that started as early as 8:15AM. Incredible.
- Kolkata – SRK reigns supreme yet again, he is literally worshipped here. 9AM shows at multiplexes packed. Full house. No seats available. Throughout the city, very few tickets are available for the rest of the day.
- Mangalore – The coastal city of India where Shahrukh Khan spent a few years of his childhood, has opened to fairly good response for a small city. 3 multiplexes running to 75% plus occupancy. Newly opened PVR theatre, sold out morning shows.
Overall, very good opening for Happy New Year at the box office. If the film sustains through the day, it could record the highest single day collections. Will it touch the 40 cr mark?

Why HNY will not cross 40 crores:
It is for sure that it released in many more shows/screens than other big hits like K3, D3, Kick, Singham Returns, Bang Bang which shows that it has a capacity to do 40 + crores business but i feel it can’t reach that figure today:
1) Content: It’s avg critic rating is 2, so collections will drop in evening. Result: 1 crore drop for day.
2) Festive: It’s a festive time with lot more people willing to celebrate with crackers than going for HNY. Result: 1 crore drop.
3) Buzz: Buzz is not excellent, you can see many shows still showing seat availability today evening. Result: 1 crore drop.
4) Competition: Down south, Vijay’s movie is still doing great and its raining heavily in chennai. Result: 1 crore drop.
Overall 3-4 crores collection is surely going to hit…Result 36-38 crores result is expected today.

It will certainly do 40+ cr. My question is how much more it can do above 40 cr. Movie length is the big problem, that less the shows in multiplexes and single theater. Anyhow, at this rate HNY will do more than 100+ cr. in weekend and 150+ cr. in first week. Rest all depends on content of the film.
Finally got to watch the so called Grandest movie of the Year thanx to my neighbours who are ardent SRKians..and as I predicted from the trailer..the movie was an utter crap and insult to intelligence!!! Story: Our leader of the losers pack(SRK who carries a swag along with the abs) is a Boston University topper and is jobless as his dad was framed by the baddie(Jackie Shroff..disappointing!!!). He swears to take revenge on Jackie and 8 years later creates his own team of losers I.e Charlie’s Angels which has Nandu(Jr B..who was quite good), Jags(Sonu Sood good but underused), Tammy(Boman Irani..good but underused) and Rohan(Vivaan Shah..he was better in 7Khoon Maaf)..they are tutored by the dancer Mohini(DP..hot hot)..now Jaggu Dada challenges the robbers across the world to steal some diamonds from Atlantis Dubai..Charlies Angels accepts this challenge and fly to Dubai as dancers by bashing the judges of Dabbu DC aka WDC..will he succeed to steal the diamonds and bring down Jaggu Dada forms the rest of the story.. When i watched the movie I felt that it was like watching two separate movies..1st half was good which had flashes of trademark Farah Khan..2nd half was equally pathetic..i felt Sajid Khan directed the second half as there was some low IQ scenes as well as a Humshakals angle..even the romantic track was forced and became an utter nonsense..i mean DP falls for SRK just coz he speaks fluent English.. Farah Khan was far better in MHN and OSO thanx to her simple storytelling added with grandeur..but here she follows her brothers method of filmmaking which contains nonsensical jokes and low IQ scenes and turns this movie into an utter bore..cinematography and the sets were grand..but screenplay and direction were absolutely pathetic..also lot of famous SRK dialogues were reused in this movie..for eg..the iconic Sattar minute dialogue from CDI..even the overdose of dances makes it tedious to sit for 3 hours..even the music was average as it didn’t have a chartbuster song.. Coming to performances..this was an average performance from our King..DP was okay..Jr B, Sonu Sood and Boman were good but underused..Dino Morea overacts as the TV show host..there are cameos from Prabhudeva and others..even the little Abram looked very cute.. Overall HNY shows that Farah Khan has not improved after the debacle of TMK and this is easily her worst movie..Hope she brings back the same zing of MHN &OSO in her next movie.. My Sid-view: 1.5/5

Hearing really good reviews from the people who actually saw the movie. Got bit carried away initially from the -vity created last night with few reviews on the net. As I hear now more from people who actually saw, just cant wait for 2morrow 2 watch it….

Mindblowing movie simply great .srk ‘s acting briliant
so people have started spreading negativity against hny.. as expected.. when srk film gets 4-5 *s the critics are paid according to haters.. now that it is getting 2-3* (many are giving 4 and above as well) the same critics have become correct.. heights of double standards.. even before watching the film circulating a particular review to create negativity.. pathetic insecure behavior.. i have watched the film.. wont say it is excellent, but will give it 3.5/5.. haters are just afraid.. sallu fans know kick record is gone.. HR fans know FAKE k3 record is gone.. Aamir fans are afraid as they saw PK teaser and have realized it wont work in mass centres.. so doing whatever ittakes to pull down HNY.. but king is king.. 200 cr is for sure.. 250 if it trends well.. WOM will be mixed at best.. Overseas it would be ATBB for sure.. Lets wait and watch domestic collections.. Lets hope we do a 300cr!!

I went with the Tees maar khan image of farah and initial 15 minutes I was thinking.. Like.. Again tmk 2..when sazid sequence came……but after that movie building up and up and comes out farah’s best film ever.. What I like the most it connect our indiawale / bhartiya sentiments very strongly
