Arjun Kapoor’s Half Girlfriend has exceeded expectations on its opening day at the box office. The collections of Rs 10.27 crore is excellent inspite of several ‘release factors’ going against the film on the opening day.
‘Half Girlfriend’ was up against ‘Bahubali 2’ – which continued its strong run in Week 4. There was also ‘Hindi Medium’ which was positively received by critics, in comparison to ‘Half Girlfriend’ which was thrashed. To add to it, there was also the crucial IPL match in the night, featuring two of the most popular teams in the tournament.
All factors considered, the real-value of ‘Half Girlfriend’ is on-par with the opening of ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ and ‘Jolly LLB 2’ this year. And it’s also probably better than a film like ‘Befikre’ which was directed by a big director like Aditya Chopra.
It’s yet another Chetan Bhagat film that has managed to get a initial at the box office – after ‘2 States’ which managed to collect about 20% more than ‘Half Girlfriend’ but it released on a ‘Good Friday’ national holiday which tends to give additional benefit of around 35-40%. So on fair-value, ‘Half Girlfriend’ has opened better than ‘2 States’.
For Mohit Suri, it’s the second best opening of his career after ‘Ek Villain’ which had additional factors like a chartbuster song (Galliyan) and also action to help its cause at smaller centres.
An Arjun Kapoor film has once again exceeded trade expectations after ‘Ki and Ka’ last year. If the film succeeds, it will set him up well for ‘Mubarakan’ later this year.
And finally, a Shraddha Kapoor film has managed a initial after two back to back failures in ‘Rock On 2’ and ‘Ok Jaanu’.

That’s nice! But the real challenge would be how it performs in the long run coz the response isn’t? too good. Expecting an average weekend due to the final match on Sunday. Anyways congratulations to Arjun and Shraddha!

The opening is very good but still I don’t think this film will succeed . The wom is extremely negative and unless it sustains well on Monday it will have a tough chance to be successful . Today and tomorrow are extremely important as these are the best days in terms of business . Sunday’s collections will be affected because of the IPL Final between MI and RPS especially in the night shows . !!!!!!!

Arjun will make it big in the future… he showed a lot of promise in HGF. Trailer he looked poor… in film he was good……

If u r a regular follower of Box office, then you must be aware that all the numbers shown above are producer’s figures, except Raees and Kaabil, which were a case of over-inflation, due to which @indicine is showing their figures. So need to specify Jolly LLB 2.
Jolly LLB 2 still produced more footfalls than HG and BKD. The problem is offbeat films like JLLB 2 always take a slow start and grow on from there compared to these commercial films that offer entertainment with chartbuster songs, actresses like Alia and Shraddha who add terrific value to the film and of course there are big banners like Dharma, Balaji or Chetan Bhagat factor.
Another problem with JLLB 2 was the screen count was excess for such a film. If it had a mass appeal, then the opening wud have been much better. In fact, apart from star value Jolly LLB 2 lacks in each and every department compared to HG and BKD. Without Akshay, it would have been another less than 10/20 cr flop this year. His presence took it to 110 cr.
@samy:jolly did 13.1 CR’s not 12.5.yes ,saksham is right.wom is mixed to negative. In today’s time as soon as initial shows in multiplexes are completed, wom comes into play.

What are u trying to prove kid? Everyone knows BOI doesn’t give producer figures. U seem to be having a half brain, indicine always gives producer figures, except few cases and if u don’t know why Indicine isn’t giving producer figures for Raees-Kaabil, then u must be a kid or new here.
Indicine is not in a position to copy figures from BOI. They have their own sources and according to Indicine sources Raees Day 1- 19 cr. Complaining about Jolly’s 13 cr then according to BOI, BKD Day 1 is 11 cr and Ok Jaanu 3 cr. Not complaining about them??? Even though you appear to be BOI obsessed, you are having a half-knowledge there too?.

First thing, I don’t need multiple accounts to reply back to haters like you. I am pretty much confident of my points.
And I don’t understand why you are particularly demanding for Jolly LLB 2 trade figures. Like I said earlier, the collections of most the films above- BKD, Ok Jaanu, Begum Jaan, etc are greater than BOI numbers? This is the 3rd time I’m mentioning this point, but seems like u aren’t accepting it. And I don’t know why.
Returning to official figures wasn’t just due to Akki fans. They knew each and every fanbase would complain about it in future. The only difference was that Akkians started it since Jolly was the first release since they started the new system. They are quoting the producer figures for each and every film until there’s an over-inflation but you are only obsessed with Jolly LLB 2.
First of all be clear, are you upset coz Indicine is showing its own figures for Raees or due to showing producer figures for Jolly? Coz I’ve given my reply for both the arguments and your points are only getting sillier with each comment.
