Half Girlfriend Box Office Opening

Arjun Kapoor’s Half Girlfriend has opened very well at the box office on Friday. The average occupancy in the morning is around 35% from the Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities that we tracked, which is a solid start given the fact that the film had a tough release – with Bahubali 2 still going strong, competition from a smaller film like Hindi Medium which was postponed at the last moment and also Jattu Engineer taking screens in the north.

Among 2017 films, the opening is only lower than Hindi films like ‘Raees’, ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ and ‘Jolly LLB 2’. It’s better than ‘Kaabil’, ‘Rangoon’ and all the other films this year. At quite a few centres, the start is on-par with ‘Badrinath..’ and better than ‘Jolly LLB 2’.

Mumbai city is on the weaker side, occupancy-wise, while cities like Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Patna.. are recording very good occupancy.

The level of opening suggests that the film could get into double-digit (10 crore+) territory if it manages to sustain and grow towards the end of the day.

Approx morning shows average occupancy at select centres:

  • Bahubali 2 – 90% (4000 screens)
  • Raees – 65% (3300 screens)
  • Badrinath Ki Dulhania – 40% (2850 screens)
  • Jolly LLB 2 – 30/35%  (3300 screens)
  • Half Girlfriend – 35% (2500 screens)
  • Kaabil – 20% (2600 screens)
  • Rangoon – Less than 10% (2000 screens)
