Haider has collected Rs 26.79 cr in its first weekend at the domestic box office, which is a decent weekend for the film. But considering the critical acclaim that the film has received, it certainly deserved to collect a lot more than it did.
In the first 3 days, business was around the 6.5 crore mark, Sunday picked up almost all over which helped the film cross 7 cr for the first time, but day-wise growth over the weekend was lower than most films carrying good word-of-mouth.
Like Bang Bang, Haider also lost out on business because of the clash. The film would have probably crossed the 30 crore mark, more so because the critical acclaim and response on social media was as good as a film like Queen. On our review scale, Haider is the second best reviewed film of 2014 after Queen. (Read critic reviews of Haider).
For Haider, it was always going to be tough battle against a more commercial and audience-friendly film like Bang Bang. But a section of the media, including some well known journalists, have been quoted saying that Haider would have collected 3 times more if it released on 4300 screens like Bang Bang. It simply does not work that way.
There is a reason why films like Queen, Haider, Vicky Donor, Kahaani, Dedh Ishqiya and others get limited releases. These films have absolutely no market at mass centres. Not many would watch Haider in circuits like Bihar and the interiors of UP and Rajasthan. For the audience in these centres, the only genre that works is masala, comedy or action and has to feature a mass hero.
More often than not, films like Haider rely on business from multiplexes from select few big centres. The cost to release a film in smaller centres would be more than the business it generates, which is why Haider hasn’t released on fixed rental screens.

Bang bang has still collected enough to be called a below average. I think it will be below average as far as verdict is concerned. Hrithik has very less hit movies just like amir (single digit to be honest.). Shahid kapur also has less hits (single digit (maybe 5)). Even youngistaan greater than them .

1400 is enough…who r those donkey saying it would have collected 3 time with 4500 ! With 4500 it may collect max 30cr weekend. But 70cr weekend …lol
BB has collected gud on just 3500-3600 screens with less no of shows per day

Well the collections are decent and before the release of HNY it has many days to get the Tag of hit.
But what Queen and Haider have similar is that these 2 may not have bad huge collections but they are going to be conquer all award events next year.

Besr Actress Popular: Kangana Ranaut, Critics: Tabu
Best Film Popular: Queen, Critics: Haider.
Also both these stars (Specially Kangana) have a decent chance of winning National award too.
@indicine: agreed! But vicky donor can work for mass too with a superstar in it. But movies like lootera and the lunchbox etc won’t work. Last year I watched Lootera (but not on theater) and loved it very much. When i showed it to one of my friends( a salmanfan) ,he didn’t like it a bit. Again, my another friend who went to theater,said that hall was half empty and people started sleeping there.

I agree haider was a good movie. Very well made movie. Bang bang also a good movie. But less hits of hrithik n shahid since 2000 hurt them badly. Even amir suffered in talash due to very less hit movies (5) since 2000.

@indicine for your info Haider released on 1200 screens out of which 700 screens in multiplex & 500 in single screens,Haider is performing very well in multiplex while it is not performing well in single screen that is the reason despite good word of mouth the jump is not major but steady.in this case you can’t expect a huge jump in collection,if Haider woul have released in more than 1000 screens in multiplexes out of 1200 screens then the growth would have been huge.don’t know why utv booked those single screens instead they should have targeted more screens in multiplex but still the collection is steady and good.
I watched finding fanny in theatre with 3 of my friends and a total of 7 people…
I took the Rs50 ticket and sat down comfortably on the Rs 200 ticket seats…

Me and my friend watched FF, my friend slept in middle. I watched till the end. I feel it was a good movie,but cann’t be liked by all. It was too slow. I loved khoobsurat. DEI was useless,boring.

Indicine clearly said haider is the 2nd most critically acclaimed movie of the year after queen. But one self proclaimed jadoo fan said again nd again that dedh ishqiya is the 2nd one…too much fun.
