A Gentleman Day 1 Box Office Collections

Sidharth Malhotra’s ‘A Gentleman’ has flopped at the domestic box office, as the dismal opening of Rs 4.04 crore has sealed its fate on the first day itself. It would require a miraculous turnaround from here for the film to have any chance, but even that may not be good enough because the starting point is too low.

Business was affected by Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations and violence at places in North India. South was affected by the release of Ajith’s Vivegam. But the collections even at places where it was a holiday was dismal. Night shows were running to less than 25% occupancy in major cities and even the one-week-old ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ was running at higher occupancy on fewer shows.

The opening day is the lowest ever for a Sidharth Malhotra film, lower than even a small film like ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ which collected Rs 4.3 crore on Day 1.

Growth for the morning shows on Saturday would’ve been a positive sign for the film, but occupancy is about the same as Friday, at places it’s lower. The film should grow evening onwards, but given the costs and the disastrous opening, it needs to double its Friday business.

IndicineLBO‘ (lifetime prediction) was down to Rs 25 crore yesterday. When the final prediction is published tomorrow, it could go down even further.
