First Bollywood actress to go nude!

Bollywood has always been quite conservative when it comes to nude scenes in Mainstream films, but with Ketan Mehta’s Rang Rasiya, actress Nandana Sen has finally agreed to go fully nude! (Pictures from Rang Rasiya below)

Talking about the particular scene Nandana says “Rang Rasiya is about the moral policing of art. It isn’t about sexuality at all. The nudity is central to the plot. And I completely believed in my director’s vision.

It’s her family, she says, that convinced her to finally do the scene after rejecting quite a few international projects due to nudity “I had turned down several international (films) including one with Tim Robbins recently, because they had nude scenes to perform. But the scene in Rang Rasiya is at the core of the film. It was my family who clinched the matter for me. When I told them about the nude scene they supported me completely.”

Rang Rasiya is directed by Ketan Mehta, who last directed Aamir Khan in Mangal Pandey. The film also stars Randeep Hooda as Raja Ravi Varma.

  • What direction is Bollywood following? Why is it going towards the degrading Western mainstream? Taking certain aspects from the West is good but NOT everything and certainly NOT nudity in the films, this is ridiculous. Kissing is one thing, nudity is just pushing the boundaries. Next thing you know the it will be alright to make soft erotica and rate it PG 13!!

    Come on people, wake up!

    • What is degrading is the interruption of a narrative by the absolutely delusional premise of Bollywood songs. And don’t be such a Puritan prick by calling nudity a degradation. Nudity, is pure and raw, and yes, in movies, unnecessary, but atleast in some essence they are trying to narrate through something real like sex, rather than DEGRADING DELUSIONAL Bollywood songs. I think if you really want to look through the perspective of degradation, both Hollywood and Bollywood are equally whorish contenders. One sells unnecessary sex, as if informing the daft and deranged as to how to be intimate, and the other selling absolute cringe materials in terms of narrative interrupting music, making already sexually repressed and inexpressive populace even more limp and shriveled.

  • My opinion may be suspect because I am American, but part of the reason I love Bollywood fims is for their modesty and innocence. Still, I have no problem with sexuality (including nudity) or violence if it is central to the story and not gratuitous. There is plenty of gratuitous violence in Bollywood, artful sexuality in art films should be considered just that, art. I’m more offended by Kareena Kapoor’s character in K3G than I would be by a well scripted film where an actress is naked. The body is beautiful and sacred when expressed artfully– just look at ancient Indian sculpture and painting!

  • i think this is a very bad idea!! y can’t bollywood make its own pahchan and not copy all western ideas!! i am an american also and this is my opinion!! i just can’t believe a hindustani girl would stoop so low! i mean indian girls had this personality that would have this cute shyness and a shareef pun! but what to do!! well i agee with dbmyrrha that some of the indian sculptures had some nudity! but still that was natural and not something to make money out of or showing themselves on tv!!!! verryyyy embarasing! all i can say now is that god help these stars thinkings…..and good luck nandana sen…….(i mean if she have decided to take such a huge step in her life i hope its worth it!!) thats it peoples!!!

  • what is the point in talking about a film released in 2008? I do not understand, pl. Somebody pl explain the meaning of this news story.

  • Why are we posting/discussing a film made last year? It’s been released, right? And is Nandana shooting full nude and is the film being re-released with that shot? If not, why is this news being posted on Aug 10,2009. Somebody pl explain.

  • why do they do that? hindi movies are beautiful because you can watch them with your family with no problem. they show love with a look or a smile. it’s not necessary to see a love scenes to understand that 2 people love each other. first with kambakkht ishq and now with that. i’m not cool with it. if we wanna see this kind of things we can watch a western movie.

  • this is very DISGUSTING AND DISTURBING !bollywood films are for that families could watch together look at the actresses ayeasha takia kajol rani deepika sonam i dont see them doing this nonsense if actresses start doing such dirty shots then kids arent gonna be allowed to watch its gonna be like 18+

  • i’m also asking with abhijit; why is there a news & alot of discussions about a film released in last year ?

  • y do we consider ourselves inferior!?!??WE R NOT!there is nothing so cool about going nude!tht too in bollywood lets preserve our culture guys..its gonna be sick when ud see ur kids going nude like this..for the sake of some bloody publicity!grow up bollywood!stop being mere copy cats..If we start copying those ass’s who can jus strip in every second then wheres the difference..the x-factor doesnt lie only in going nude!?!??

  • Yes…….ther shud indeed be nudity in mainstream bollywood………its just part of films……….come on it’ll just spice up the movie going xperience

  • i think if the script demands then its okay otherwise not. money should not be the criteria for stripping but good movie script be. Moreover if you guys watch movies in which you know there is nudity then you are nothing just hypocrites to talk against nudity.
With regard to culture, i would like to say that when we beg for money as aid for food, education, technology and even administration and setting up of education institutions that is what we should be more ashamed of not the nudity thing. nudity whatever anyone say is just a trivial issue.

  • It is very shocking and amateur to hear that people relate culture to display of nudity in cinema. what about scores of people who defecate out in the open every morning exposing everything. Now thats for real not shooting. people grow up it not nudity that you should worry about its a trivial issue.

I wont talk about US but still i find most of the people respecting it and aspiring to shift to that country because of the living conditions it provides. Even German movies have a lot of nudity but what it comes to your mind when somebody talks about it, i’ll bet its either mercedes or BMW. Now india does not have any nudity but what is india???

  • There iz smthing limit in bollywood hindi cinema bt wat can we say abt this vulgar work. There is all over nudity nudity n last i think nandana had done a very very bad job

  • I do not see why should MEN feel ashamed if a lady chooses to pose nude in a movie. Several Indian and Pakistani movies have scenes showing total nudity of men (if not frontal) but if a lady does that it is called stooping low. Indian men are perverts as actress Gul Panag rightly puts it. I am sure most of these men who have commented here would have or do search for nudity online. They wish to see nudity on the internet when their family is not around but are shy of watching it on TV with family. Human beings look identical and I do not see what is there to hide.

  • But i don’t think so something is wrong about for go nude. and if we are talking about western culture so i think we all cover in this entertainment world nothing is wrong if we having fun for look her in nude that’s why she getting money for it

  • I think actress and high class model a modified form of prostitute. Prostitute sells her body/flesh for earning while today’s actress sell her body/flesh for money in the name of selling acting.
Actually, if so then it is of circumstances, generally, prostitutes are forced not by choice but as far as concerned about actresses, they are free and not forced choosing their roles in movies. They have a right to deny being exposed or vulgar scenes but they do and enjoy it. Both are driven by the purchasing power of money.
Actress are sweet poison than prostitues of Bitter medicine.

  • Every 1 on earth has d ryt to live his/her lyf! If the choose nudity, then so be it, bt we prefer the ideals of love! The love movies! Bt nudity aint bad also…

  • I THINK AS FAR AS NUDITY IN BOLLYBOOD IS CONCERNED NOBODY IS WASHED WITH THE MILK EXECPT SOME WHO DO NOT WHAT THE INTERNET IS BUT OFCOURSE IT WILL DEFINETLY AFFECT FUTURE GENERATION TOWARDS WRONG IMAGE .
    THANKYOU.
