Filmfare Awards Best Actor (Male)

Aamir Khan (Ghajini)
Hrithik Roshan (Jodhaa Akbar)
Akshay Kumar (Singh Is King)
Naseeruddin Shah (A Wednesday)
Shahrukh Khan (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi)
Abhishek Bachchan (Dostana)

We say – As many Indicine members feel, Shahid Kapoor deserved a nomination ahead of Abhishek Bachchan.

Filmfare Awards Best Actor (Female)

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (Jodhaa Akbar)
Priyanka Chopra (Fashion)
Asin (Ghajini)
Anushka Sharma (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi)
Kajol (U Me Aur Hum)

We say – If Asin and Anushka deserved nominations, then why no Genelia D’Souza or Prachi Desai? Genelia was like a breath of fresh air in Jaane Tu. And Prachi Desai was fabulous in Rock On!! Is it because they were not cast opposite the likes of Shahrukh Khan / Aamir Khan?

Filmfare Awards Best Film

Dostana
Jodhaa Akbar
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
Ghajini
Rock On!!
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Notes – A Wednesday deserved a nomination for best film. Quality wise much better than the likes of Rab Ne, Dostana, Ghajini and Jaane Tu.

Filmfare Awards Best Director

Ashutosh Gowariker (Jodhaa Akbar)
A.R Murugadoss (Ghajini)
Aditya Chopra (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi)
Abhishek Kapoor (Rock On!!)
Madhur Bhandarkar (Fashion)
Neeraj Pandey (A Wednesday)

Filmfare Awards Best Actor in Supporting Role (Male)

Abhishek Bachchan (Sarkar Raj)
Arjun Rampal (Rock On!!)
Prateik Barber (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na)
Sonu Sood (Jodhaa Akbar)
Tusshar Kapoor (Golmaal Returns)
Vinay Pathak (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi)

We say – As the nominations for Best Actor in a Comic role are not out, it remains to be seen if Tusshar will be nominated in both categories. We feel he should have been nominated in the Comic Role category. And Vinay Pathak for Rab Ne is a surprise inclusion, he was strictly average!

Filmfare Awards Best Actor in Supporting Role (Female)

Bipasha Basu (Bachna Ae Haseeno)
Kangana Ranaut (Fashion)
Kirron Kher (Dostana)
Ratna Pathak Shah (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na)
Shahana Goswami (Rock On!!)

Filmfare Awards Best Music

A.R. Rehman (Ghajini)
A.R. Rehman (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na)
A.R. Rehman (Jodhaa Akbar)
Pritam Chakraborty (Race)
Shankar – Ehsaan – Loy (Rock On!!)
Vishal – Shekar (Dostana)

We Say – While A.R. Rehman has a great chance of winning an Oscar at the Academy Awards this year, he has tough competition at the Filmfare Awards. Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Pritam and Vishal Shekar was hugely popular last year.

Filmfare Awards Best Lyrics

Abbas Tyrewala for Kabhi Kabhi Aditi (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na)
Gulzar for Tu Meri Dost Hai (Yuvvraaj)
Jaideep Sahni for Haule Haule (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi)
Javed Akhtar for Jashn-e-bahara (Jodhaa Akbar)
Javed Akhtar for Socha Hai (Rock On)

Rashid Ali for Kabhi Kabhi Aditi (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na)
Sonu Nigam for Inn Lamhon Ke (Jodhaa Akbar)
Sukhwinder Singh for Haule Haule (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi)

We say – Guzarish, Pehli Nazar Mein missed out. And so did many others who deserved a nomination ahead of Farhan Akhtar!! Did Farhan deserve a nomination for Best Playback Singer??

Filmfare Awards Best Playback Singer (Female)

Alka Yagnik for Tu Muskura (Yuvvraaj)
Neha Bhasin for Kuch Khaas Hai (Fashion)
Shilpa Rao for Khuda Jaane (Bachna Ae Haseeno)
Shreya Ghoshal for Teri Ore (Singh Is Kinng)
Shruti Pathak for Mar Jaawan (Fashion)

Best Actor in a Lead Role [female] – Aishwarya Rai Bachhan [Jodha Akbar]
Best Actor in a Lead Role [male] – Hrithik Roshan [Jodha Akbar]

I also take this opportunity to entreat the Indian Government that Hrithik Roshan should be given due recognition via the National Award this year for his outstanding performance, unbeatable performance in Jodha Akbar.
Also, it is high time, with films such as Kaho Na Pyar Hai, Mission Kashmir, Lakshya, Fiza, Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish, Dhoom 2 and Jodha Akbar, that Hrithik’s versitility and marvelous contribution to Art from someone so young and in such a short span of time be recognised via the PADHMASHREE. I hope next year we will hear his name as the recepient of this award. Such young people are a rare find and should be duly motivated and honoured.

  • shahrukh khann deserv n he shuld win.. if he not then the awards are not fair. becoz campare srk in 2008 with other actor like amir or akki or hrithik or naseer or abhishek i think srk role is much difficult n very powerfull role …

  • All fairness will go out of this world. This world will lose its credibility completely if Jodha Akbar does not sweep majority of the Filmfare awards this year. Even if you are fans of SRK or others, you are not supposed to blind your sense of fairness and justice with your adoration and fanfare.

Jodha Akbar is a flawless, marvellously put-together film from beginning to end. There is no doubt that immense passion and effort have been extended in the making of this film. The costumes, the sets, the language [urdu spoken so perfectly by non-muslim actors, especially Hrithik], the plot, the action sequences, the underlying saga of romance and true love and respect for the motherland, the twists and turns, the flow, were all INCREDIBLE! How can any other film, any other actors, any other director, be chosen above these ones??

Filmfare, in the past, has always been on the mark. That is why classics such as Madhumati, Mughal -e-Azam; actors such as Dilip Kumar, Nutan, and Amitabh, have faired so well. Of late, it seems Filmfare has lowered its principles, both in nominations and in declaring winners.

Indicine’s comments on the nominations for many categories are 100% accurate. That is why it is time that Filmfare tries to recapture its credibility this year, and do the right thing which is Jodha Akbar as Best Film, Hrithik and Aishwarya as Best Lead Actors, and Ashutosh as Best Director. If this does not happen, then Filmfare will lose its credibility forever.

And to my colleagues above, once again, I entreat you to be fair. SRK/Amir/Akshay may be your favourites but in 2008 they were all far-outshadowed by the brilliance of Jodha Akbar, a film which will be a legend for centuries to come, and which will be very difficult to match up to.

Allow me to sign off now, and I hope never to see or read such perplexing comments again from obviously biased fans.

I cannot agree that I am biased. If Jodha Akbar had any flaws I would be the first one to point them out. For example, the award for editing cannot go to Jodha Akbar because the film could have been shortened if the milaap scene between Jodha and Akbar had been shortened, and also if the sword fight between Jodha Akbar had been shortened, or if the final duel had been entered into quickly. But in all other respects, Jodha Akbar, Hrithik, Aishwarya and Ashutosh are by far the most superior performers in 2008 and the most deserving award winners.

By the way, in my previous comment I made a grievous error – in the Popular category Best Film should be Jodha Akbar and not A Wednesday.

  • R.C Patel, edited your last comment. As your pointed out, changed the Best Film from A Wednesday to Jodha Akbar.

    Thanks

  • Regarding your above comments, cant agree with you more. Jodha Akbar is a film that will be remembered for decades to come. A movie that will be watched by our children and grandchildren.

It deserves every award that comes its way and more! A wednesday deserves a mention too. The two films are by far the best of the year!

  • Thank you, Indicine Team, for your support.

It is just so amazing to see how egos have inflated so much in our industry today. For example, how can Akshay Kumar even imagine that his performance in Singh is King is worthy of surpassing Hrithik’s performance and winning the Best Actor Award. How can a silly comic role full of rowdy antics which required no effort whatsoever even entertain the dream of competing against Hrithik’s brilliance in Jodha Akbar? Even more incredible is the fact that Abhisheikh Bachhan is considered worthy of being a competitor in this category. The whole concept of Dostana was offensive, not to mention, vulgar and politically incorrect. It is allowed for men to dress up as women [Rafoo Chhakar, Apna Sapna Money Money etc]. It is also acceptable for gay men to pretend to be straight. But when straight men pretend to be gay that is offensive and a mockery to the gay community. Therefore, Dostana should have received no nominations whatsoever in any categories. In fact, if Dostana was a Hollywood film, the Gay and Lesbian Council would have organised huge protests, marches etc against the screening of such a film!
I really do not know what has become of this world. Jodha Akbar was banned in many areas of our country whereas Dostana was screened all over. Atleast, the Awards’ Jury should have had some sense when deciding on the nominations.
But when the agenda includes appeasing the Bachhans, the Akhtars, the Chopras, the Khans etc, rather than choosing the superior performances over the mediocre ones then what can one do?????????????????

My sympathies go out to Shahid Kapoor, Rajeev Khandelwal, Shreyas Talpade and Jimmy Shergil whose rightful and desrving nominations were snatched away from them by undeserving actors who received nominations based solely on their surnames.

  • I will be very disappointed if Hrithik Roshan does not win the Best Actor for Jodha Akbar, Ashutosh Gwarikar for Best Director for Jodha Akbar and the same movie for the Best Film.

  • Indicine Team: what makes u think that Shahid kapoor deserves to be among the best actors category? I don’t think that he did a great job in Kismat Konnection!

And why there’s no award for the best debutant? Anoushka & Asin who played the main roles in the 2 movies deserve to win awards in this category.. Asin was good but Anoushka got a great charisma as an actress and played a difficult role in Rabne.. so she’s the one who deserves the filmfare award, if not as a best actress but to be honoured in a way or another.

And I don’t know why all this hype for the movie A Wednesday.. it’s a good movie but not the best one in 2008!

All the musics and many songs in the list above are good.. which way would they select the best one.. I think it’s so hard to decide.

Best actors: Shahrukh & Hrithik ( they’ve to give them both, each one an award)

Best film: Jodha Akbar, Rock On, Dostana, Rabne..4 great movies.. which one we would say deserves the award?!! Can’t say.. I think they’ve to split the award into 4 pieces and give each movie a part of it. ( Fahsion too deserves to be in this list)

I would select the best playback singer: Sukwinder Singh for Haule Haule.. or KK for Zara se Dil mein.. these 2 songs are very nice.

And best playback singer (female) Shreya Ghoshal for Teri Ore or Shruti Pathak for Mar Jawaan

Best supporting: Arjun Rampal (male) and Bipasha Basu (female)

  • Jodhaa Akbar must and should sweep all the top honours Hrithik MUST win BEST ACTOR
else filmfare will lose its fairness and value.

  • Genilia must deserve atleast for nomination. She is a damn great actor. And if v are talking about playback singers..thn where is d nomination of Atif..bakuda songs was super hit… Alka yagnik and shereya goshal have tough competion. Tu muskura songs deserve for alka yagnik…

  • acc to my opinion
    must win:
    aamir khan
    priyanka
    kk
    alka yagnik
    kangana ranaut
    arjun rampal
    prsoon joshi
    a r rahman
    imran khan

  • Hritich for actor and aishwarya for actress! They killed in jodha akbar.(CHEMISTRY AND PERFORMANCE WAS TIGHT) By the way, jodha akbar is my personal fav film of the year! Its was perfect in every department! Critics choice to aamir and priyanka. newcomer to asin

  • My lead pair to win: hritick & aishwarya. They have been both consisent and versitle as performers. Best film: jodha akbar ( DUH! its has legendary written all over). Supportin to kangana and arjun rampal. Asin as new comer( SHE BLEW MY MIND AWAY) she overshadows aamir in some scenes! Plus i hope katrina wont perform a song!she sucks!! And they should stop making fun of movies in awards shows!its tacky and reduces the value of these awards!

  • After watching Jab we Met, i thought Shahid was excellent in his role, but no recognition was given to him. the industry will continue being like that. if you are not a certain actor or do not come from one of the so calle filmi “Royal” filmi families, you will not even be noticed. i do not respect the filmfare awards or any of the other awards given. many times Anil Kapoor deserved to be acknowledged for his roles but was not, (remember roles in movies like Eshwar, Parinda, Ram Lakan etc.), today he is acknowledged by the world as one of the best. Shilpa was given the same treatment, it was only Salman that was prepared to act opposite her. she is the most polular international actor today. she deserves it because she is a good actor. God decides.

  • Thank you Vipul and Sandy for your very intelligent and accurate comments. I agree with you completely, although I still feel Sonu Sood was better than Arjun Rampal.

I also pray the show will be classy and Bipasha will be kept under control as must the hosts.

  • Do u think think Alka Yagnik deserve for Tu muskura….

I think she deserve bec tu muskura song is not so easy to sing. THe line “shareer se “. What do you think so?

As compare with shreya goshal teri ore… that song is so easy to sing…

  • Missing ones from the list: Javed ali for playback singer male(Jashn E Bahara and Guzarish) A Wednesday from best film category. Anchors should not cross limits as happened recently

  • Missing one from the list: Javed ali for playback singer male(Jashn E Bahara and Guzarish) Anchors should not cross limits as happened recently

  • Bipasha was nominated?? Please dont make me laugh! I agree sonu was better than arjun rampal.aishwarya is best choice 4 me as best actress and actor is spilt from aamir and hritick for actor. Jodha akbar rocked 2008. Glad sharukh is getting ignored this year. HE WILL FINALLY GO BACK TO CLASSIC FILMS SUCH AS DEVDAS AND CHAK DE!
