Do you know that Akshay Kumar and Rani Mukerji have never worked together? Or the fact that Imran Khan has worked with a newcomer heroine (Shruti Hassan – Luck) only once? Or for that matter the fact that Sonam Kapoor has never been paired opposite a newcomer? Well, there was a time when Bollywood was just stuck with three Khans (and not much has changed during the last 20 years) while a heroine’s choice boiled down to the trio of Kajol, Rani Mukerji or Preity Zinta.
Today, thankfully, there is a gradual shift being observed. However when Kareena Kapoor works with each of the three Khans over a period of time while Katrina Kaif takes a step forward in not just working with them in consecutive films (Salman – Ek Tha Tiger, Shahrukh – Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Aamir – Dhoom 3) but also tops it all up with Hrithik Roshan (‘Knight and Day’ remake), it only makes one wonder whether Bollywood filmmakers would ever think of something unconventional.
Well, we thought so and here are the three ‘jodis’ that we propose:
Emraan Hashmi-Katrina Kaif
He is as ‘desi’ as it gets. She is inherently ‘videsi’. Together, this untried and untested pairing could well lead to fireworks. Right through his career, Emraan has never been dependent on the clout that his leading ladies carry at the box office. Now imagine the possibilities when the woman with the best success rate in Bollywood, Katrina Kaif, pairs up with him. And we haven’t even started on the possibility of their on-screen kissing yet!
Ranbir Kapoor-Vidya Balan
It isn’t just the sheer idea of seeing a boy romancing a woman a few years elder to him; after all Ranbir has done that earlier in ‘Wake Up Sid’ (Konkona Sen Sharma). It is more about sheer acting talent that one would get to see on a single frame. Both started their career on a very promising note and there was never an ounce of doubt about their sheer prowess when it came to facing the camera. What has consolidated over a period of time is sheer respect that both of them have garnered by making unconventional choices. Any takers?
With an exception of a seasoned actress like Kareena Kapoor, Imran Khan has largely worked with those who started their career almost around the same time as him. On the other hand Asin has managed her record of working with only the top superstars in business, right from Aamir Khan and Salman Khan to Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn. It may just be about time for the duo to take a risk and do something opposite.
